Ratchet and Clank: Crack in Time >>>>>>>> every other RnC game released to date! and its on PS3 btw

finalstar2007

Not saying you're wrong as I haven't played the latest stuff... but have you even played the older games?

I find that you hold strong opinions about things you never even tried.  You preach about the newer FF games when you haven't played the old ones.  You dog out Nintendo games every chance you get even though you admit you never played them.  You praise CoD as the best thing ever when you have extremely limited experience with other shooters.

Is your opinion on R&C based on experience?  Or based on "this is all I played so its the best!"?

I've played enough FF games to know and have a bigger picture on how they all are.. i've played FF1,FF2, FF10, 10-2, FF12, FF13 and 13-2.

FFX and up are quite different from previous FF games, especially XII and XIII, which is why many people talk about how they gave up on the franchise since FFX. No other FF game had the leveling system of FF2, and FFI is one of the more basic FFs and has been outdone by most FF;s after it.

So I would argue you don;t have a very good picture of what FFIII-FFIX are like, not compared to those of us that actually have.

Crack in time is the best Ratchet and Clank game. Those are nostalgia people. Same as the Zelda series, people say that OOT is the best in the series

You haven't played FFVI,VII or IX? :? No wonder you enjoy XIII

Yeah, I would enjoy XIII as well if that were my experience with the series.

FF - first game in the series and very limited.

FF2 - worst game in the series.

FFX - good, even great!

X2 - spin off with nothing to praise besides the battle system.

FFXII - decent game, great ideas, poor execution.

Missing out on 4 - 9 basically means you missed FF.  Those are the games that defined the series and launched it into fame.  Those games are the only reason the series still drags on today.  Those game established the FF name.

Especially VI, VII and IX, like you say.

^You must play these game finalstar.  Do yourself a favor and pick up Chrono Trigger while you're at it.

Ratchet & Clank 1 - is now not that great. Its ok.

R&C 2 - Still Awesome

R&C 3 - Still Awesome

R&C TOD - Awesome

R&C ACIT - Awesome

I liked pretty much all traditional R&C games.

blackace

Hhhhmmm.. no. Opinions vary. Several R&C games flopped here on Gamespot, so your opinion is yours alone.

You do know that a game flopping here at GS only means that it didn't get the score that it was hyped to get, right. If a game was hyped to get a AAAA score, and only got a 9.0-9.5 (AAA score), it's still a flop in the eyes and by the rules of SW and GS. Now while that game is a flop, it'll still get the editors choice award for getting a AAA score. So a flop doesn't always mean that the game is bad.

Finally someone who agrees with me!!! pretty much every game that had a sequel on PS3 ended up getting far better than the PS2 games.

RnC got so much better on PS3 ( Crack in Time ), God of War miles better than it was on PS2 ( God of War 3 ), Sly ( Sly my god they did an amazing job on it, improved so much from the PS2 games ), etc list goes on

finalstar2007

Why do you like them better though? I just want someone to list me some reasons why. That's the whole reason I made this topic and no one has done it yet. I'm not hating on anyone's opinion, I just want to know why you think they're better.

Crack in Time?

I can make a list sure:

  • Graphics.. ok im not the one to like a game based on grapchis but Crack in Time man it had some pretty impressive graphics that at some points i would just stand still just to look at the views or how enemies attack/walk lol... the game was seriously beautiful
  • Gameplay, Crack in Time i thought had the best controlls out of any other RnC game, the camera was quick and Ratchet movement were pretty quick ( my main complaint on rnC PS2 games is that Ratchet movement were too slow )... in Crack in Time it was perfect.
  • Trophies.. i like them ... made me play the game for months just to get 100% trophies lol
  • Story, Crack in Time had some seriously good story i thought it was both interesting and emotional ( the ending part )
  • Guns in Crack in Time had an interesting way for level ups and almost all guns were addictive to use.. for the first time i didnt end up using one weapon but i had fun using all of them!

I agree with all this and add the Clank time puzzles. Those were awesome. Too bad we probably won't be seeing them again. Perfectly fine with the planet zapping mini game being gone though.

Haven't played any R&C games. However, I wished Naughty Dog did a Jak and Daxter game on the PS3 or a 3D platformer.

Agreed. FFIV-FFX was the pinnacle of FF IMO. beforehand, the NES games were meh (I've had my fun with FFI though), and the FFs after FFX I found to be unimpressive.

Finalstar should get the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger. He loves his Sony, that and he'd get FFIV as well, which is where FF started being great.

Oops, silly me, almost forgot to mention how lame FFVIII is.

Haha, yeah, I'm not a big fan of VIII either.  I enjoyed it enough, but it wasn't a bright spot for the series.

Agreed on the rest.  My only issue with the PS versions of the 16 bit FFs and CT are the load times.  After playing the SNES games were everything is instantaneous, it kind of blows.

Still though, better to deal with that than not experience the games at all.

As much as I loved GOW 3, I'm going to have to disagree with you here. The only thing GOW3 had going for it over GOW2 was: The visuals (a given, since GOW3 did premier on a next-gen console), and the boss battles. The story, pacing, platforming, and the weapons were better-way better on GOW2. I really believe that if GOW2 came out on the ps3 around it's time of release, and had the visuals of GOW3, it would've very well outscored GOW3.

I think the only reason I have any sort of positive look on FFVIII is because of nolstalgic memories of watching my oldest brother play it and doing some of the optional stuff. Otherwise when I played it myself and now that I've had time to think about it, it is pretty iffy. Great soundtrack though.

I've also heard of the load time issues of the PS1 FF's, but I only recommended the PS1 Chrono Trigger because I know Finalstar is a SOny guy and am unaware if he owns a SNES or DS.

lol I love how this used to be a R&C thread.

You pretty much missed the pinacle of the FF series by not playing 4-9. Like this is legitimately the most flawed post in regards to FF like ever. You need to play at least 7 (the most popular one) before you can claim to know enough on all of them. (then play 4, 6 and 9)

FF8 is an abomination. The story is utter none sense, the junction system is pure broken, its stripped of all of 7's fun mini games and and it works similar to 7 in removing the necessity to use characters based on anything but limit breaks.

I really cant argue with that.  And at the time, even though I completed it, I just really didnt like it.

That said, I would still gladly take another game like FFVIII over another game like FFXIII.  I think thats why I'm soft on FFVIII these days.  As bad as it was, it could be much worse and we have proof of that now.

VIII has its moments. Still the best intro to all the FF games anyway, dat fvcking music mang. It also had that awesome sniper scene with Edea and watching Balamb Garden take flight and avoid a missile strike. Those were great moments. But the characters were lame as hell, especially Squall. Such an emo depressed little shit. Like he has a damn GUNBLADE. That's a sword and gun together and he still came out lame. plus the whole last third of that game is downright awful, like seriously, the final boss is atrocious.

Still can't beat FFIX though  VII can go suck a dick, FFIX is where it's at. Its battle system is a little too slow now and the very last boss sucks diddy milk but man that game is one raging nostalgia boner

GOW 3 is solid and I enjoyed it greatly overall but it was very disappointing. We should have had more epic mountainside titan war moments like the opening throughout the game. The whole intro is still one of the best paced and most visually stunning gaming moments I have ever seen but the rest of the game pales in comparison.

Kratos wasn't even as cool either. He didn't have as many badass roraring one liner moments.

Combat felt better though and the visuals and audio were amazing

This is a question to the ones who have enjoyed the series at one point. I'm only talking about Tools of Destruction and Crack in Time btw. It's obvious why FFA and A4O are subpar.

I always see people hate on ToD & aCiT and say they're worse than the original trilogy, but no one ever says why. I think they're worse too (Even though they're still great imo) but I have my reasons. I just see people saying they suck compared to the original 3 without ever giving a reason except for some of the people who say they've gotten bored of the formula. I'm just curious.

IcyFlamez96

I myself am a Ratchet fan ever since the PS2 era I think it's because maybe Insomniac wanted to experiment with different gameplay machanics like All For One and that caused it. But their Ratchet games are still awesome.

Eh, I don't know. As mediocre as FFXIII is, atleast I found its battle system enjoyable at times, whereas in FFVIII drawing is one of the most tedious things in FF on the top of my head, although I guess it wasn't necessary to do that since one could easily break the game without drawing (so I hear anyways). Both VIII and XIII's stories are nonsensical and poor, FFFVIII's arguably moreso (pretty close still either way).

FFVIII actually had some decent post-game content though unlike FFXIII, so there is that.

nostalgia. people just look back at those ps2 times as some sort of gaming valhalla. a crack in time is as good, if not better than any of the ps2 R&Cs...and that's just being objective.

lazerface216

This. For me, the only problem with ToD was it was too easy. My rankings go like this: Up Your Arsenal>Going Commando>A Crack in Time>Tools of Destruction> Original. ACiT was really close to the previous two, it just didn't have as much stuff to do on the side. Going Commando still has the best arenas in the series though.

I've played every single RnC game released to date yes.. from PS2, PSP, PSN, PS3 to PSVita i have played them all even the HD collections and Crack in Time is still imo the best RnC game released to date.. i hope they can do another one like it in the future for PS4.

I've played enough FF games to know and have a bigger picture on how they all are.. i've played FF1,FF2, FF10, 10-2, FF12, FF13 and 13-2.

as for CoD i've played A LOT of FPS's this generation but CoD still by far the best FPS yet! of course imo

Finalstar you disappoint me.

Probably franchise fatigue. I only played A Crack in Time and I thought it was one of the absolute best Sony games I have ever played.

They were fun, had a lot of side missions, had a lot of unlockables, split screen, vehicles, a lot of humor, etc. Deadlocked even had split screen online play and I played it all the time with my siblings online. It's been years since I've played Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked but I bought All 4 One when it was new and Size Matters on PSP, All 4 One is a fun co-op game locally, but online people are kind of assy. Size Matters was okay for a PSP game, controls sucked, but it wasn't like it's PS2 counterparts. Tools of Destruction feels more like work than fun, so I've still yet to beat it, think the last I did in it was beat all the challenges in the Arena. I haven't played A Crack in Time yet, so I wouldn't know how that one is. Another thing I miss about the PS2 games is the co-operation between Naughty Dog and Insomniac, including the Jak skin in Deadlocked. Gotta say, Deadlocked was probably my favorite in favor of the online split screen, second is Up Your Arsenal. But yeah, basically the new ones don't have the charm, humor, side missions, unlockables, vehicles, split screen and amazing online play the old ones did, not to mention the addictive gameplay. If I missed anything or made a wrong move since I haven't beaten Tools of Destruction, please tell me so.

R&C 1 > Crack in Time = Tools of Destruction > Rest Come at me. R&C1 is fantastic, if only it had the perfect controls from the ps3 games.

PS3 ones are just as good if not better, people just expect more coming from a next gen console

Not much, honestly A Crack in Time might be my favorite Ratchet and Clank game.
