10 is a perfectly fine score, I personally would have given it a 9.5

The proof is in the pudding. It's official that GTAIV is over-rated. Although I think we concluded this by now.chazasul

GTA4 is overrated like GTA San Andreas becoz of the hype, expectation & following a GTA game has. Its virtually impossible to give an unbiased view because it is a 'GTA game'

I think GTA4 deserves its 10. No other game has so many features as GTA4. None. And adding to the singleplayer, there is also a very thought-out multiplayer with tons of features too.

The 10 is justified. Everyone seems to easily forget how expansive and big the city is. I'm still finding new things to see. The game won't be for everyone, but this is the most complete game in years. The amount of options are just so open.

I would have given the game an 8.5.

It's a well polished game, but many cool features featured in the previous games which made them so great were removed in IV, and as such the replayability factor was significantly hurt.

I felt like GTA:SA was larger and more complete then 4.

I was quite disappointed that the RPG elements didn't show up again.

btw.... did it really take allot of people 40+ hours to pass it the first time?

in the end, it don't really matter, we all got to play a good game :D

If someone seriouslly picks 8.5.... That's way off. It's definitely nowhere near that.... The game has a quality far above it. I think it deserves 9.5. It is a very good game, just technical glitches, and a few little flaws should bring it down. They gave Mass Effect a lower score for technical glitches same thing should apply here.

MGS3 is a 10 for me. (10 doesn't have to mean perfect, just that it is one of the best games you've played..)

GTAIV would have to be a 9.5. It is good, but for some reason, I am not sure why, the game just got kinda.. stale.. after a month or so. I really can't explain it. like.. GTA III was fun for the longest time. I guess maybe it just feels too.. same-y? Perhaps if I hadn't played GTA III, GTA IV would seem a lot more fun, and last longer. It's just... GTA III = Random guy doing crime jobs for different conflicting people/groups which span across 3 islands. GTA IV = More detailed guy doing crime jobs for different conflicting people/groups which span across 3 islands. And I can ride motorcycles, and hellicopters (2 types..)

IMO if they would have thrown in a plethora of different weapons, the game would be a lot more fun, but as it stands, the two sets of weapons are very generic (handgun, SMG, shotgun, and assault rifle, with your average power weapons like rockets/grenades). Wheres the chainsaw? golf club? It would be better if you just pick things up off the street and start swinging it... how awesome would it be to go to a construction site, pick up a 2x4, and bust it over someones head, then grab the crowbar and lodge it in said someones skull?

Not to mention the vehicles. It seems like there are maybe 10-15 different vehicles in the game. Is this the fruits of this gen's labor? Wheres the golf carts? the bicycles? the jets (not needed, but yeah..) How about more than two types of hellicopter? Whatever, the list goes on. Its a great game, but not a perfect score worthy game.

In my opinion the game deserved 8.5, No more, no less.

Its the same old GTA again, but with better graphics.

No need to pay 60$ for that, pick up your GTA:SA and play it.

See? You just saved money.

8.5 just because of the horrible MP and non existant replayability once you beat it.

so the results are just as I expected,, 9.5.

Its pretty sad that ALL reputable game sites gave into the hype, like they did with Halo3 and potentially MGS4 (obviously havent played it, but itll be tough to warrant the near perfect scores its getting)

9.8 if GameSpot kept their original and far superior rating system. But I guess since I can't pick that 9.5, the single player is great and 90% of what was removed from the cross-over from San Andreas I don't miss. But the multiplayer is the games achilles heel. It shows from Rockstar never doing online before that they have no idea what they are doing from the archaic matchmaking and balancing issues that should have disappeared long ago (i.e. everyone starts with handguns but one team's spawn is 12 feet from RPGs and M4s while the other team has shotguns and SMGs next to them).

Plus an option to jump straight to online from the dash would have been much appreciated or at least when you start the game. It sucks when you have to sit through all the loading for single player, then sit through loading for multiplayer, only to be disconnected back to single etc etc. A lot of the multiplayer options should have been removed from players control except for player matches, too often your sitting through ranked matches with 30 minute time limites with god awful spawn settings, weapon settings, no vehicles, blah blah because the host is an idiot. I'd rather it be more like Halo or CoD where match settings are automatic. Especially teams, whatever jackass at Rockstar who thought giving players the ability to pick their team was a good idea should be fired. Either the match is stuck at the lobby for 10 minutes cuz noone will pick a team or the teams are unbalaced and its 11 on 5 or worse.

8.5 this game just has too many issues and I didn't find it fun except for maybe two or three missions.

I'm honestly going to have to say 7/10. Don't get me wrong, I've been a huge GTA fan since the original for PS1, but GTA 4 really isn't that amazing. The story is good, but the missions are so average and boring compared to previous GTA games. The weapon selection is very minimal as well, not offering goodies of the past such as flamethrowers and funny sex toys. Where in gods name is the TANK!?! How can you make a Grand Theft Auto game without a tank...seriously? The side missions are story-context sensitive as well and some are just completely gone ( Ambulance, Paramedic). Vigilante missions are no longer multi-leveled experiences, but a broken series of single target take downs. The cover system is decent, but it is more of a necessity than an option. The cell phone implementation is by-the-gods annoying. It rings every 2 seconds, forcing you to do some boring half-aced mini game or face the doom of a broken friendship. (Seriously, I barely made it through half a bowling game without falling asleep). It also happens to ring randomly at the worst times, and some phone calls cant be delayed until later, forcing you to walk (no running on the phone) away from persuing cops and enemies. Like I said, its a good game, but it has so many failures that cant warrant it a 10.

Does anyone sometimes feel like they made the game... accessible (ie. didn't really take many risks) to perhaps get a new fanbase this gen, whilst still retaining the old one?

Just wondering. FYI, I'd give it a 9.5/10, but I'm curious about that...
