Because Sony or Nintendo don't have the money to do so, only Microsoft are chest deep in cash.
They should acquire Avalanche Studios and Kojima (make his own studio).

None, they should just build up more internal studio's and stop looking to buy into things, which they have done since Phil took over. Just continue on the path they are going.
I think it's already been pretty well established that MS ain't really into doing that. Everybody was predicting they'd be buying studios like crazy when they came into the console biz but it just ain't happened. They've bought a few here and there but way, way below the kind of spending people were predicting. Talented people are what make great companies great and often the talent quits after an acquisition. I think MS realizes that and it's why they don't buy many studios.
No one should buy any studio. It's always a bitchy move to take 3rd party games and make them exclusive. Invest in first party studios, develop new IPs that are exclusive from the get go.
They should buy something big in Japan, try and build that base up a little, they need more games that cater to the people of the Sun.
It would probably serve them well to use third party exclusives to launch new franchises and then build internal development resources to carry the IP they cultivate. Like, Scalebound 2 should be from an internal studio. If they remain consistent in building internal studios to carry these IPs, they will be in good shape going ahead.
Kojima should stay independent. This pipedream Xbox guys keep having is trippy as ****. His games do the worst on Xbox consoles.
MS should build up it's own talent instead of buying established studios. 343i was the closest thing they have to doing that but of course they are the Halo keepers. 343 and Coalition really shouldn't be the super specialized Halo and Gears devs, I find that insanely limiting and very similar to what Activision have done to Treyarch and Infinity Ward.
Why don't they buy a small studio that has yet to release anything worth while, take a risk and just maybe they will release something that will take off. Like Sony did with Media Molecule. As shit as LBP plays, it got success as a unique creation tool.
All this is better than weirdos wanking over how rich MS is and how they can buy Activision 3 times over. No sane person should care about that.
Capcom Vancouver (formerly Blue Castle Games), along with the Dead Rising license:
People are forgetting that if MS were to buy another studio they would have to maintain it and that would cost money. They would simply have to invest more money to keep the studio afloat especially if they aren't working on any new IP which is also costly trying to develop. MS tend to use third party studio because its less of a financial risk so they don't have to deal with much if something happens to the studio. The company can buy as much as they want but they need to see if its viable to keep a studio in the long run so they don't have to waste resources trying to keep the studio if it hasn't gotten anything done.

+1
They should build their own studios instead of trying to buy success because it doesn't work.
you do realize that sony purchased sucker punch, naughty dog, and GG. They didn't create any of those studios.
@darkangel115: yeah but those studios were already making PlayStation exclusives when Sony purchased them.
That's different then Microsoft buying Rockstar because they're popular. If Microsoft purchased someone like Remedy, that would be okay in my book because they have a history with Microsoft.
The only thing that makes sense would be MS acquiring Kojima. His games translate well with xbox audience and also could be a boost to Xbox in Japan. But I doubt it he'd do it except hired as a free agent for short term project.

there's a lot of spin in these companies, Nintendo talked about becoming profitable on Wii U, such as they spent money producing consoles they couldn't even ship to retailers because of low demand, they take a hit for those quarters because of production costs and their inventory not selling, then following quarters they finally move the inventory so it makes a profit since they don't have to spend money producing them, spin becomes that the Wii U is finally making Nintendo a profit, misleading
even the 3DS seems to be puttering out early, about the only major flow of money is in shares and share value as a result of the DeNA deal
@BigBadBully: I guess you missed how poorly MGSV sold on xbone and how Kojima's games have always been geared towards PlayStation.
Let's hope they can acquire some new studios after losing one of their 1st party studios recently. Twisted Pixel wasn't very good but with Microsoft's current 1st party situation even scraps will do. They did create like 4 new studios for Hololens games if you're interested in shit like that.
Naughty Dog ...... just to piss all the Sony shitforbrains fanboys.
Lol. Some people just want to watch the world burn.
lemmings are by far the most bitter fanboys I've seen this gen, lol.

I know you're interested in gimmicky shit like VR. lol
Has that 2.5 Billion for Mojang paid off yet? Perhaps they should wait a little while
Maybe they should acquire Notch.
Last I checked he was in need of friends.

If having $5.5b (USD) in cash on hand is considered struggling...

But Sony and Microsoft are making more according to that site, why would you point out Nintendo but not Sony? Do you know how to read financial reports?
Beside, Microsoft pisses all over them both, so it doesn't matter. Try harder, loser.

The Truth ^^^^^^
Why buy a studio already making the games you want?
Build new studios to make New Franchises.
MS needs a Platform game studio, a Spy game studio, A ninja action game studio, a Japanese RPG Studio and a Baseball game studio. That could fill in a lot of gaps.

lol, I work with accounting systems for a living, so I don't have too much trouble reading balance sheets, cash flow statements, income statements, etc.
There's no need to bring Microsoft in for comparison...we know they're more financially viable than Sony or Nintendo...that isn't under debate. You claimed that Nintendo couldn't afford to acquire development studios and I posted a link to their most recently filed balance sheet (you know what a 10-k filing is, right?) showing that they have $5.5 billion (USD, when converted from yen) in cash on hand. Not net assets, available cash.
If they hadn't dissolved, I would have said Irrational Games, really.
I can't believe they didn't step up and acquire them before their unfortunate end. If Microsoft's people had an inch of a knack to discern skilled developers in gaming, they would have done it. The Microsoft I envision and the one they are today, are two gigantically different entities.
Which is why Sony has a monopoly today in the gaming industry...and they do not.
If Microsoft is serious about building up their first party, they should start by attracting top talent to Rare. A studio is only as good as its talent, and the only real benefit to purchasing an existing one is getting its IPs. They have a ton of quality unused IPs owned by Rare, and they should start by finding talent that wants to work on those games.

Sure, you do bud bud.
@cinematicgalore: Oracle EBS general ledger and subledgers (FAH, fixed assets, check disbursements, A/P, A/R, OBIEE for financial reporting). I've also worked on Sungard ABC on a IBM z/OS mainframe, Sage MAS200, and SS&C CAMRA for investment accounting.
Did you finish your social studies homework before you logged back on to Gamespot, kiddo?

Wow, fancy words. Did you copy/paste them from an asshole on another forum? fucking lol
I'm actually studying land surveying, don't care for pussy ass desk jobs.
@cinematicgalore: You're studying for your state's 8th grade standardized testing. Quit with the BS.
Land surveying and a CPA's grasp of financial accounting. You're an impressive individual, haha.
@SecretPolice: Damn good point. Could you imagine the Minecraft and GTA sales combined? I'm sure it has crossed their minds.
GTA6......now powered by Havoc Physics.

Why do you keep using jargon? Talk like a normal human being.
too late, hindsight observation, I felt MS should have rescued Bizarre Creations back when they were in trouble, I mean they have a history with PGR, not that I cared for it, and Geometry Wars... maybe MS took offense when they tried branching out with The Club and Geometry Wars Galaxies for Wii and Blur
anyhow, I'd of liked it if MS had Bizarre Creation as an asset, imagine if they could collaborate on projects, take something like Rez HD and tweaked its wireframe graphics with their signature neon effects and found ways to tweak the audio and video for an even greater synesthesia effect, they have good experience there especially with that techno music
I also wished dearly Nintendo would have rescued them to work on a re-release of Tetrisphere, their use of wireframe and neon visuals would have made that a trip, and again added that synesthesia techno effect
@cinematicgalore: what studio could they possibly buy and keep it good? Look at Lionhead, look at Rare, look what they did with Epic, look at how they treat indies...
Lems thinking Microsoft can just buy success. It has worked yet and won't work. After seeing what happened with Rare I would say buying a studio doesn't guarantee anything.
Like someone else said Remedy seems like a good candidate for purchase as they already make Xbox/PC exclusives.
