They shouldn't buy any studio. I still miss Ensemble and Rare.
Capcom Vancouver (formerly Blue Castle Games), along with the Dead Rising license:
If capcom is not using the studio or the DR franchise, I would like that.
But I doubt DR3 sold enough for MS to consider that. But what you say sounds very logical from a business standpoint, well put mate !
If Microsoft is serious about building up their first party, they should start by attracting top talent to Rare. A studio is only as good as its talent, and the only real benefit to purchasing an existing one is getting its IPs. They have a ton of quality unused IPs owned by Rare, and they should start by finding talent that wants to work on those games.
Yeah they need to find talent that wants to work on that IP. Also, they should find a studio willing to work on Age of Empires, like they found a studio for Halo Wars 2.
Killer Instinct, and perhaps soon Halo Wars 2 will show that MS is interested in this and good at finding the right studios/talent.
Lems thinking Microsoft can just buy success. It has worked yet and won't work. After seeing what happened with Rare I would say buying a studio doesn't guarantee anything.
Like someone else said Remedy seems like a good candidate for purchase as they already make Xbox/PC exclusives.
*facepalm*
Keep dreaming about these studio acquisitions that will never happen.
@cinematicgalore: Bethesda. Fallout and Elder Scrolls only on Xbox and PC.
Because this would be so great for gamers... s/
Topics like this illuminate what isn't really being said. Xbox still has the worst first party output in gaming and not much progress is being made to change that so delusional topics like this will keep popping up.
None,
We all seen what happened with Rare and Ensemble Studios
This, although I'd like Bungie to get their asses back to MS cause that whole thing with Activision has made them a shadow of what they use to be.
@StrongBlackVine: All gamers except Sony gamers. And, it's not like Sony's first party has been that much more active than Microsoft's. A lot of Sony's "exclusives" are third party - they don't even have a first party exclusive this Christmas.
It's just "what if" scenarios. No need to be a fricken killjoy.

He's mad because Sony is broke as ****.
@Litchie:
Having Bungie back would be cool but no way 343 will give up Halo at this point but hey, Bungie may actually get to do something entirely different than another Halo or even another FPS I mean, that's what they've said they wanted but what did they sign up for, a Halo like MMO and not a very good one to boot... yikes lol
@cinematicgalore: It's more likely that you are upset that PlayStation is kicking Xbox's despite the huge gap in wealth between Microsoft and Sony. Unfortunately for forum losers like yourself Microsoft isn't interested in spending money just so you can win a pissing match online. Be happy with the timed Tomb Raider deal because that will probably the highlight of Xbox moneyhats for the rest of the generation.
I'm happy with Sony Worldwide Studios so I don't have to daydream about acquisitions that will never happen. If did want them to acquire a studio it would be one like Quantic Dream that basically acts a a first party studio already. Or an upstart like Supermassive. I also don't get some perverse joy at locking a segment of the gaming community out of games that would be multiplatform. That's mostly a lem thing though. Rant over.
They should buy the Star Citizen dev or CDPR.
Star Citizen dev b/c "haha...all in good fun" - CDPR b/c they fucking suck and I would rather not spend $10 on their games on my PS4 once they hit the bargain bin.
@cinematicgalore: You're studying for your state's 8th grade standardized testing. Quit with the BS.
Land surveying and a CPA's grasp of financial accounting. You're an impressive individual, haha.
Why do you keep using jargon? Talk like a normal human being.
Talk to anyone in IT, health care, or the military about their work and I bet half of what they say is in acronyms....force of habit.
@StrongBlackVine: Sony is broke as ****, they can't afford shit, loser.
Bitter much? Did Sony hurt your inner fan boy?
It's really hard to say. It's not so much the studios or the franchises that they need. But if they can get the talent, in the long run that could be the game changer.
None, they should just build up more internal studio's and stop looking to buy into things, which they have done since Phil took over. Just continue on the path they are going.
they should have used that wasted money on TR timed exclusivity and invested it in new internal studios.
New studio= every franchise they create is owned by Microsoft, profit forever
timed exclusivity of a game= sales and profit (maybe) for one season

New IPs aren't guaranteed to be successful critically or financially profitable.

Very true. I see why MS bought the time exclusive rights to Tomb Raider cause there is already a fanbase for that game. I think they got undercutted when Square announced when it was getting released on other platforms but it's good to have that as an exclusive this holiday. Adding Tomb Raider to Halo, Gears and Forza helps boast about exclusive titles for the rest of the year but they need to and seems like they are putting more of their money on real 1st party titles now.
@StormyJoe: I love the Xbox fanboy obsession with Christmas at the expense of the rest of the year. Almost as though most of them are children who still have their parents buy their games for them. Oh wait.

The biggest shipping time of the year, and not a single exclusive. That's a problem.
And, no - I am quite old enough to buy my own things, thank you very much. But, I do buy games for my kid.
@BigShotSmoov007: or it shows that Microsoft doesn't have faith in their own creativeness to develop successful new IPs.
If that's the case then MS would still be buying exclusive and timed exclusives and they clearly said they not doing that anymore.
