PSN outage affected everyone, RROD didn't. However, RROD caused your entire console to be unplayable, while on PS3 you just couldn't go online. So I say it's pretty even.

[QUOTE="drokmore"]I think what was so impressive about RROD was how many years its been going on and how slow MS was to fix it. Some people went through multiple Xboxes which is just wrong. AncientDozerand all of those xboxes should've been replaced for free. I have less sympathy for anyone that went out and bought one when they had a three year warranty. Another huge difference is that Microsoft willingly took a billion dollar hit to look out for its customers. Sony HAD to take the billion dollar hit on account of that dramatic snafu and is hardly spending a billion more for the consumer's sake.
Microsoft willingly took a hit??? If you mean not going to court... I guess.
Well considering every cow who never owned a 360 had 5 RROD's I'd say its gotta be RROD because of the laughable paradox it created....
Both sucked for those affected... both cost the companies millions and both were avoidable... its lose lose lose in this case.

You win teh internets!
People may not have had their "identity stolen", but rather their personal information. As far as we've seen in the media, there have been no reported bouts of use of CC information or any reported identity theft.
Regardless, both were bad, but it's hard to give the nod to one over the other. The PSN breach has the potential to be far worse though.

This was my reply to the other thread.
Well this forum is kinda known to be much more dominated by the PS3 fans then any of the other systems.Kinda of shocked by the poll results. Thought it would be a little closer.

The PSN outage was a sabotage. RROD was complacency (more than allowable that is).
The sabotage could have happened to LIVE as well, but Sony wouldn't allow a flaw at the scale of the RROD to happen. Only Microsoft will do that. So i'm more pissed at the RROD.

i lol'd at the paradox too
Having your system burn up and not being able to play your games is much worse than not being able to go online for a few weeks. God forbid you can't go online for a while, oh the horror! Lems act like everyone who had their cc info stored on PSN had it stolen...not true. Didn't happen to me.
The PSN outage was worse due to the stolen information and Sony's incompetence (outdated security, lack of transparency, and very slow response)
The PSN outage/ID theft is already on its way to being forgotten. RROD will still cast a shadow over things next gen when MS' new hardware is coming out (not saying it will fail because of RROD or anything crazy, but you can be sure that people will remember their bad track record).
As for my personal experience...my 2007 360 that I just replaced never got RROD. And I haven't been ruined by data thieves yet, but then my CC was never entered into PSN anyway, and I changed all my important passwords after.
I experinaced both and it was no contest. When my 360 RROD after 3 years of modest use and the warrenty wore out i was pissed. When the PSN thing happened i was gaming on my slim 360 and PC then so i was good. It was still frustrating as i have friends on PSN for over 4 years i started getting worried about them lol.
Considering I've barely used PSN and my Xbox just red ringed yesterday for the 3rd time, I'm going with RROD.

Sony gave out many free games, and a free month of PSN+. Sony also offered insurance for anybody who has their identity stolen (which we have heard nothing about).
my information was compromised, and you havent heard about identy stolen from this? come on, be real.

Yes, people's information was compromised, but there have been no reports of confirmed identity theft, or even use of CC information stolen. All I did was report my CC lost/stolen and boom, done.
Unless you can find a link, as you seem to be under the impression that an identity theft/CC usage has occurred.
Furthermore, like I said, Sony offered insurance in case anybody had this take place. I belive it was up to $1 million per person.

how do you know this? are the perps going to broadcast that they stole the persons identity because of this? give info? You are basically saying that no one on PSN involved with this has had their identity stolen, INFO was compromised, unforgiveable.

How do you know it happened? If anything, the lack of evidence indicates that my viewpoint has more validity
Information was compromised, nobody disputed that. The same info could be found almost anywhere on the internet, and that information is sold repeatedly by companies. Personal information became impersonal years and years ago.
You're saying it happened, yet have no proof. The lack of proof holds up my point more than it upholds yours. Basic debating here.

once your info is compromised its compromised, if you dont get that, I dont know what to tell you, nice validity there you got going =D

The info that was compromised was already largely available within a plethora of companies. This information is also sold on repeatedly.
The only information that was really a major issue to most people would be CC information, and there are no reports of CC use out there. Regardless, reporting it lost/stolen resolved this.
Anyway, as you haven't provided any evidence that identity theft took place, this debate is over. Thanks :)

yeah as there is no chance identity theft can happen again, I wonder why Sony has offered identity theft programs for free for all of its users? hahaha nice debate, thanks.
PSN breach has caused me more grievance as I felt it necessary to replace my debit card as a precaution, which in turn causes further inconveniences as I have to update old pre-orders and all that jazz. Whenever my 360 broke all that happened was I got free stuff. It was happy time. McStrongfast
good point, smh, and to think they had outdated apache servers running within their environments.

Nobody said it couldn't happen again :? I stated:

lundy86_4
I brought up the insurance, and nowhere did I state that identity theft could not happen, hence why I included the insurance point (meaning people are protected if it does). Good God, if you're gonna debate with me, get your points straight please. You're just wasting my time at this point.
You stated:

We have heard nothing about any identity thefts (people assuming another individual's identity), only about personal information being stolen (much of which is available anywhere in the market nowadays).
Due to there being no evidence to the contrary, it's reasonable to assume (based on the information at hand) that little to nothing has happened with the stolen information (for the time being).
Right, i'm done. Until you provide evidence to further your point (mine doesn't require evidence, as that's the whole premise of my point - the lack of said evidence), then this debate is going nowhere. Have a good day.

lol i thought the debate was over, I guess you felt your argument wasnt as good as mine. Anyway, Im pretty sure I won this round. info compromised and identity theft are worrysome, thats why you guy say PSN outage was worse. Oh yeah
