What will be more powerful, the PlayStation 4.5/4K/NEO or the Nintendo NX?

For once i hope Nintendo come to the fore and demolish MS and SONY, i would love another N64 era.

PS4 Neo because Sony isn't as conservative when it comes to the TDP of their consoles and it will be priced higher than the NX.

The only thing the NX might have over the PS4 Neo is a slightly superior CPU if they go with Puma+ cores.

Nintendo does not know or understand what a powerful system means. The release of the Wii(same hardware as the Gamecube) and the WiiU is a testament of this.

I predict neither will be enough of an improvement for us to really care... But anyways I voted PS4.5. If Nintendo still want to waste away at their resources and opportunities on secondary screens no one will want to port their games for, then I can't image they'll have much margin for any decent power under the hood if they want to keep the price competitive.

This is also very true. Diminishing returns is a real problem and these upgrades would be more marginal than the jump from last gen to this gen.

Let's put it this way: if NX is more powerful than Neo than Sony has f*ed up bad. It's essential for Neo that Sony can call it "the most powerful console on the market", otherwise it's nothing. Since companies seem to have pretty good knowledge about eachother I therefor predict Neo is more powerful than NX.

The answer is pretty easy. Do you expect the NX to sell at a price of $399.99 like the PS4 Neo? If not then the PS4 Neo will be superior in terms of overall horsepower.

The Neo isn't much of an upgrade so I pick the NX, but the worst thing about this is MS will probably not want to be left behind and also release an upgraded console so that means another 3 new systems to buy and that's just ridiculous in a gen that's only 2yrs old

Well its double the power of current gen and the PS4 is supposedly 4 times more powerful than the PS3. So, the visual difference would be even more of a disappointment over last gen.

You are looking at this like the PS4 Neo is meant to replace the current PS4. This isn't a traditional console generation replacement. It is a refresh of the current hardware. It's not supposed to be 5 - 10x more capable because the same games are going to run on both consoles. It would be a waste of resources if the PS4 Neo 5 - 10x more powerful as devs aren't allowed to make exclusive games for it anyways.

That 36 CU vs 18 CU is quite a large leap in graphics horsepower.

Look at it more like upgrading your PC. You don't see a massive graphical difference between medium and high settings, yet people upgrade their GPU's to maintain high settings and or to keep FPS more stable.

Powerful of course being relative, since the "next-gen" consoles can't even run 1080p/60fps unless it's a last gen HD remake.

Forget just the horsepower. New instructions to really take advantage of that constricted GDDR5. Will consoles finally stop sucking at texture filtering and what not. If it is polaris ofcourse

Whichever comes out later. And since it seems the NX will have a one-year head start, it may as well be the same difference between PS4 and Wii U.

Polaris has better memory compression so that should definitely help.

If the specs are true, the PS4.5 got a huge boost in GPU performance. I really can't say which will be more powerful right now.

I predict Nintendo will reveal first (May, Sony at E3). If the NX is more powerful I think Sony will adjust the specs to win. Second place, not an option.

Going by the fact that the Neo leak states that PS4 must not be left behind, I have a hard time believing that Neo will be much more powerful than PS4. The boost will be fairly minor in most regards, and in many situations, devs won't do the extra work to make a superior Neo version, when the PS4 version will work on the system, and has and probably will continue to have, a much larger install base.

NX could really be anything. Going by some of the more credible leaks I'm thinking it'll be more powerful. Their are just too many rumors about the NX been a powerful unit, and you know the old saying, where there's smoke, there's fire.

None. I'm going on logic. There is no way Nintendo is going to sell the console for more than $399. You're not going to have a radically different amount of performance if both consoles are around $399.

We can argue little technicals all day, but at the end of the day, the difference is going to be most like the difference between the Xbox One and PS4. Irrelevant.

I really don't know the details of the specs. I think the upgraded PS4 isn't going to be as powerful as it seems. A 2x increase in CUs does not equate to a 2x increase in performance. I know there are other increases being made to the CPU and memory bandwidth, but in real world performance it'll be a modest increase at most.

I'm not really sure how powerful the NX is supposed to be. If it's not an x86 based CPU, it's going to be hard to predict. I also think it'll suffer in the real world since Nintendo will still be the only one out of the x86 family.

The Wii U is already more powerful than the X1/PS4 with many more 1080p/60fps games. The NX will just destroy the PSbore.5 and Xboxflop.5 with its 4K goodness.

After seeing the rumored ps4k gpu, nintendo must be shitting their pants right now. It'd be impressive if the NX surpasses Xbone, let alone PS4k.

Think they will be really close. The PS4 Neo (gotta be kidding me?) might edge it out, but I am not really convinced. It is not as if the PS4 was a powerhouse, no matter what fanboys claim.

So they will both likely be fairly similar to a mainline Laptop, with a bit of a boost in GPU power. I think MS might try to push for more power then both TBH, in order to regain a bit of the market lost. So they are likely more likely to take a loss, I fear that Sony demonstrates the complete lack of ability as they have been showing for the last 3 years, Nintendo? A bit more of a question, we know the new president is far more in favor of power, so we might see a console that might rival NEO and whatever MS throws out, Depends on how much of the NX is intact from the beginning phases of development until the release.

Of negative points, that favors the PS4 NEO possibly being more powerful then the NX is that controller. It might cost enough to jack the price. So we might end up seeing a weaker NX, a higher priced one, or that controller sold by itself..

While We have heard that the NX does use a different architecture, it would not surprise me if we are going to see identical console hardware, now and forwards. Completely identical offerings from MS and Sony, with minimal changes (and would have assumed Nintendo too). It is where we are going afterall, most games third party having too different specs is just a hindrence, and will likely backfire. But then these are media boxes, consoles dies 2 gens ago, so would be logical to look at how other media boxes are set up compared to each others.

From my perspective it will come down to software development and which company will make strides to push things forward. Sony could release a $2000 console, but if I'm still playing the same fps and third person games I could care less.

Sadly, the NEO specs look horrible as well. PC's are already light years beyond that.
