You stick a bunch of reoccurring console games for each system up there but not Crysis, a new franchise that introduced open environment sandbox like game play that breaks the mould of the traditional shooter?

It would be a better idea to ask which game was the best from last gen.

Its way too early in this gen to even start these kinds of topics.

But, so far, the game that I can see starting to define this gen would be the LittleBigPlanet. Thats pretty revolutionary. How many other games do you see where you can actually create your own level with whatever you want? From my understanding you can even change the levels that the game comes with, helping you or other people out. In my years of gaming, I haven't seen something quite like LBP. There might be games that copy the concept of this game, but you know that this game is 7th Gen. The rest are just sequels to games before the 7th gen.

Sure, Halo 3 and MGS 4 were great, but thats the thing: they're sequels. You don't want a gen to be a sequel. Actual consoles can be a sequel. (The Xbox360, the Playstation 3, and the Wii are all sequels. [Wii being a sequel to the gamecube its basicially just a fancied up gamecube.]).You want the games and the technology to be unique. You want the gen to offer something new besides the countless sequels to games. You want it to be something that hasn't been seen before.

But out of those, it will probably be Mario Galaxy. The Mario games usually are. But they don't have to be just one game, for example two gens ago, there was Mario, Zelda, and Final Fantasy. This gen could have more than one.

Wow, now That is a good question. All of your choices for the poll are superb because they all "defined" something in their appropriate category. Halo for online reinvention on consoles, gta4 for mindblowing realistic physics / a.i, mgs4 for a touching and unparalleled story, and smg for its comeback of the good ol days while still keeping a new school feel.

To be fair, I picked other to represent that they all have done wonders for the game industry.

Not I. Galaxy is easily better than the majority of games this gen, including MGS4.

the metion of any game outside of MGS4 would be silly but this generation is far from over. What's really crazy that if this trend towards motion sensing devices continues, the defining thing this generation isn't going to be a game but how we interact with our games. wii remote anyone?? Out of the games you listed imo Halo 3

now before anyone attacks me for my opinion, I don't think it's because of it's graphics or gameplay.

This generation of consoles is the first where every console has some sort of online community and the ones that had one allready have more matured. online play/communities in games became more important this gen. and so far Bungie did it best with halo 3. people making maps, gametypes, screenshots, movies and let people download them from their servers. plus it gets a ton of support from bungie.

If MGS4 is an evolutionary step in gaming that is to be continued, then I won't be gaming for much longer. Go learn how to write Kojima. Your great production values and "cool" factor of MGS may make many others overlook the absurd and convoluted plot of your game, but not me. Pretentious, preachy, and beyond ridiculous, it should have ended after MGS.

-Had a story worth trying to follow and understand.

Gears of War set the bar this gen so far, PC, 360, PS3, whatever, but not Wii.

Heard Galaxy was big too.

MGS 4 was unparraleled.

Crysis showed the power of the PC.

GTA was like Heat of Scarface, nothing short of a masterpeice.
