Let's face it...sales DO matter--especially in a multiplayer game (single player they really don't matter a whole lot as you have the same experience whether or not others are online and available to play).

one thing that makes Halo3 so great is that there are always a ton of people online even over 1 year after the game launched. When you add in a skill leveling system to match you against equally skilled players it's gaming bliss--short waits to play a game against people in your same skillset. Halo3 would suck right now if it only sold a fraction of its sales.

The next AAA to flop in sales will be? Keep in mind if you suggest a game you are hyping the AAA status of the game, but also predicting very low sales.

I'm going to say this once: a game can't flop in sales, on Gamespot.

One fanboy with multiple accounts in SW is making a crusade to analyze sales of games for ownage.

Guys, we are GAMERS, what matters is if we like the game, not if a game we like sells well.

It would be great if every great game sold well, but we can't always expect that.

What happens is if a game comes out Hyped AAA, and it gets AA, that game is a flop.

This fanboy is going a step further, and saying okay, it was AAA, but it SALES are BAD!!!!

Once the game sells good, they move on to the next game.

Look at MGS4 and how that was bashed initially for sales, or Banjo, or LBP.

Heavy Rain might. Fahrenheit, Quantic Dream's last game, didn't do so well financially despite getting good reviews from most critics.

You have to wait to find openings? That sucks. I guess cows really meant it when they said "just wait". J/k. But seriously you have to wait? Also do you think it will be that crowded 18 months after launch? As I said that's what makes Halo3 so great...not that it had a bunch of players in the first month (but that did help).

if we play sales go and play wii fit. sales mean nothing as far as game quality goes. the sims series has sold more than just about every other series out there, does that make it the best game ever? no.

If nobody buys the game who's going to play it online? That seems pretty obvious.

Wii Fit isn't an online game. It's a single user experience, so sales don't matter for it. But sales do matter for games with a big online footprint (like KZ2, Halo3, Gears, Resistance, Startcraft, etc...). Just look at starcraft people are still playing it in large numbers years after it released. Halo3 will be getting played by large number of people years of it releases. KZ2 will probably be shutting down some servers due to lack of users in a few years.

Well I don't consider K2's first 5 week sales a flop but whatever. I'll go with either Heavy Rain or Alan Wake.

What system wars have you been posting in? Sales have ALWAYS mattered here in some capacity. To say that it doesn't is silly.

Looks at the Wii.

When PS2 was way ahead in sales I'm sure sales mattered a lot to most of the PS3 fanboys. But now that PS3 sales are in last place sales don't matter much. As I stated in my initial posts with online games sales matter a ton. online play isn't fun with there are only a handful of players available. To combat teh response of "but KZ2 has a lot of players"...by saying that they admit sales do matter...we are just haggling over how much sales matter.

I'm not saying Sony did this with MGS4, but you want to know a dirty little secret about sales? Companies in the music biz do this all the time...they guarantee sales to special artists or rich artists do this for themselves. How do they do this? Simple they buy the CDs/songs with their own money then they store them and resale them over time. This is how they get on the top sales chart in 1 day. It creates hype about the sale and then they slowly release the CDs back on the market as demand picks up. You know there isn't anything stopping Sony or MS from doing this.

Infamous maybe? Seriously though we should have a rule that states a game cant be bashed for low sales untill a year later. Games such as heavenly sword, uncharted, boom blox, LBP and LO initially started of slow but had legs, all selling a million + (give or take).

i just think its silly how a game gets eternally bashed for low sales and then a few months later it becomes one of the greatest sellers.

I don't think many people are expecting infamous to be AAA. More like AA ;) Still though, it probably won't sell well, but it doesn't matter. I'm buying the game because it looks like it'll be fun to play, and regardless of review scores or....sales numbers  I'll still probably enjoy the game.
