They'll drop core games and close their studios like MS did and then try to mimic the Wii, just like MS is doing.

Even if you trolling and youre a fanboy/hater ill "bite" and answer you. Sony can have a chance if introduce a nice console ( hardware ) at 299$$ ( 6core / 3GB ddr3 for example ) and 3-4 major titles ready on launch like UC4 , Jak and Daxter 4 , Monster Hunter 5 ( or a spin off of series or whatever to appeal to japanese ) and MGS5 , maybe pay Capcom for an exclusive similar to OKAMI 2 , LBP 3 and why not a few new ips.

Then i see it sale like oldschool PS consoles did.

I think Sony already tried to mimmic with Wii and failed miserably with Move. So that answer is not valid.

ok that sounds like that system is catering to core gamers tho, what will they have to match Kinect for motion gaming? Move 2.0? They need something, or a copycat Kinect or Kinect itself?

motion gaming wasnt around when oldschool consoles were around, its definitely a game changer and motion gaming attracts casuals the best obviously. If you look at this whole gen you will see the system that had motion gaming pulled out ahead, 1st wii, now 360 with Kinect.

True but think about it for a sec. Why you think PS3 didnt sold as much , or even better than Wii ? Was because it lacked wii-mote? Dont think so.... Main reason was the price. Do you know that 650euros in some european regions , where PS brand is so popular , is like 2x months of work? Now if you add to that price the fact that didnt have any single "pusher" exclusive , more or less liek the ones i mentioned above.... Tell me a reason why someone , casual or not , buy a PS3? I used to be owner of PS1 since its day 1 and PS2...but i never bought a PS3...and im hardcore.

Release an Onlive/Wii U/Kinect/i Pad hybrid console that consists of a tablet that you can take on the go with you (OLED scren), can plug it in to your TV for full gaming experience(with an improvedDualshockcontroller), an improved PS Eye that competes with Kinect and an online component whose mechanic allow mods to be installed through software that enhances gameplay and seamlessstreams download-only games and does a lot of things..online wise...ala Onlive .

Everything starts with an idea. :P

its the first answer that I got that has some legs to it. Problem is what will be the hardware costs to do that? Its a start for sure, but I do see a problem that if they dont improve on Move which sadly is not doing anything compared to Wii or Kinect, I dont know what route they would good. Im sure they are themselves talking about this to each other in the war room. They could just very well stick with the PS3 at a real cheap price to try and compete with xbox 720 next gen which to be honest might not be the worst idea since the graphics and tech PS3 has is still good enough. Wii proved that having a hardware monster machine that can produce polygons out of its anus isnt a must.

A low price point, say $299 is a good starting point however the most important factor is MARKETING. Hire a good marketing firm or something, and spend money like Microsoft does when advertising Halo or Activision when releasing Infinity Ward. Halo is not a casual market game, but because of the marketing prowess that Microsoft possess, it certainly sells like hot cakes. Finally, I would try making everything about the console simple and sleek, it worked for Apple in all their products, it can work for Sony too. (I think it goes without saying, but have a good launch line up with variety of titles including older games and new IPs)

its a good idea, but still remains how will you play Just Dance 5 on PS4? What would be the method of use for the motion gaming? Will the Eye be updated where it can detect 3d and depth? IF so then maybe, but again hardware cost would come into play and would be much higher than say a Kinect which would have been in development for a long time when the time comes and will be much cheaper to produce. At this point I dont know if SOny can take a loss with its new console considering the landscape of their financials. IF VITA really flops, thats even more pressure on the decision to produce the PS4...

they fail miserably? They didint even really tried. They only did it so they wouldnt stay behind. They succeded on making a very acurated motion controll but they had no intentions of making it the next big thing. They werent going to push it, it was more of a "Yeah here it is, and there you go. Oh and a couple of game for it too. OK bey". They didnt put alot of money into it and neither did they waste their time into trying to make it succesful. "Its a cool little neat option. if you want it, there it is."

They are not going to force their devs to make a MOVE only game. To fail miserably they would of had to hope it would of been an extreme succes, put alot of effort into it, and market it to attract the casuals. And they didnt try to capture the casuals, all of the games that support MOVE arent casual games. The only did it to say "hey we can do it to and we wont be out done", and to spice things up.

Low price point. Sony needs to aim at the largest market and thats the $299 market, not necessarily the casuals. If Sony can make a good package with the right games at $299 even at a small loss, its perfect for the long run.

going with a low price point is an idea, but i really dont know how they will use that to counter Kinect to be honest. They need something that is going to lure casuals. Its not all about dance games, the use of xbox live and voice and gestures that Kinect does also has Kinect luring in the casuals. I dont know but its the only way maybe Sony can go, but if it goes that way they will have a console that is not as powerful as the next xbox which will have some cows crying for sure.

Hey come on now, no need to be mean, at least for this thread, he has been mildly mannered. :) To TC: I don't think it really needs to improve the Eye that much to be honest. Just Dance sells a lot better on the Wii than the 360 or PS3 but it doesn't use some super 3D camera to do so. Not to mention, Kinect comes at a higher price point than just the entry level 360. If Sony really wants to hit the casual market hard, then they would include the PSEye in the $299 entry point console they sell. The specs don't have to be amazing, even technology from 2008-2009 could really be sold under $299 with the PSEye for a profit. And like I said marketing is the important factor. The reason Halo/Kinect, Apple and Call of Duty are such highly regarded brands (at least sales wise) is because of the amazing marketing budgets and campaigns they have. :)

I know you want to make it sound like the had high hopes for it and they put all of the money they had left, along with their heart, sould and hopes into it hoping it would be a succeses but we all know it wasnt like that. The Move wasnt expensive to make, and it sold really well for a while, many people were surprised it was matching Kinect back in the summer and begining of fall, when Kinect had a hype train and huge marketing.

Same thing they're doing now, have a secondary controller for the Ps4 (Possibly similar to the Wii U's) maybe it'll support move too, but Sony's continued focus will be core gamers.

I also think the Ps4 won't cost anymore than $400.

again poor business model if you ask me, also if you didnt know, SOny actually passed on Kinect before it came to Microsoft. So yeah I think Microsoft has made better decisions with their videogame model than the PS3 for awhile now.

Also, Move failed horribly? For something Sony just tossed out there, it did shockingly close to Kinect in sales.

www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/12/26/kinect-vs-move-one-year-later.aspx (stupid glitchspot won't let me link)

Move: 8.8 million shipped since launch

Kinect: 10 million shipped since launch

If Move failed horribly, then I guess Kinect did too judging by figures THAT close. Heck, Sony didn't even push move NEARLY that much

Looks like money wasted for MS, or maybe they needed to push it?

[QUOTE="ForzaGearsFace"]

[QUOTE="killa4lyfe"] A low price point, say $299 is a good starting point however the most important factor is MARKETING. (I think it goes without saying, but have a good launch line up with variety of titles including older games and new IPs)USS_Data

its a good idea, but still remains how will you play Just Dance 5 on PS4? What would be the method of use for the motion gaming? Will the Eye be updated where it can detect 3d and depth? IF so then maybe, but again hardware cost would come into play and would be much higher than say a Kinect which would have been in development for a long time when the time comes and will be much cheaper to produce. At this point I dont know if SOny can take a loss with its new console considering the landscape of their financials. IF VITA really flops, thats even more pressure on the decision to produce the PS4...

You know sir you are a disgrace to humanity with the ammount of stupidity you polute the internet with. You know nothing about what it costs for sony to produce a console to specific things. And here you are acting like an expert on the matter. Why won't you be a good lemming and walk of a cliff? :P

obviously I know more about this than you do, you seem mad? Guess I have made you look foolish more than once. Its ok, its common.

so they just made the move to have it around. Glad you arent running my company. They failed miserably compared to Kinect that is for sure.

SPYDER0416

I know wat you are up to, and I know you are only saying this ti make SONY look even worst, but lest be honest and realistic........................ SONY didnt give a flyng f*ck about the Move.

Also, Move failed horribly? For something Sony just tossed out there, it did shockingly close to Kinect in sales.

www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archives/2011/12/26/kinect-vs-move-one-year-later.aspx (stupid glitchspot won't let me link)

18 million Kinects to lets say 9 million CONTROLLERS, not MOVES, but CONTROLLERS. So that means the installed base of move is lets say 5 million. Thats being generous as well. That means the Kinect outsold the Move 3 to 1, almost 4 to 1, and the Move was released about a month or so earlier than Kinect. Also look at software sales, tell me one standalone Move game that has sold as much as Kinect SPorts or Dance Central series, heck tell me one that has sold more than 1 MILLION. KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!... I love educating these wishful cows, im so good, oh yeah....

hey buddy give me 1 standalone Move game that sold over a milion aside from sports champions which was bundled with Move. So give me an aswer and tell me if you think its ok that not one standalone move game couldnt break 1 million in sales whereas Kinect has 5, and some of them reached 3 million. IF you cant answer this, you are the one who is being a pathetic troll. Let me know ok?

Sony just threw it out there with little effort and made a couple bucks out of it with out even pushing it or marketing it.

Some People want a super powerful console which means a super expensive console which means casuals will fray away and Sony wont take a hit into their own pockets again. Adding gadgets and gizmos costs money too, If its not straight out the packet and usable then 3rd party developers wont touch it for instance how many 3rd party developers support Move, WM+, Kinect with games ?! I could go on but i dont think its just sony who are struggling to get the right mix but also MS and Nintendo. Its a hard task to give everyone what they want

Edit:

"For sales, Microsoft reported in March 2011 it has shipped 10 million Kinect units worldwide since launch. It has not provided an update since. U.S. retail tracking firm NPD reported this month that 750,000 Kinects were sold during the week of Black Friday. Sony announced at E3 2011 it has shipped 8.8 million PlayStation Move controllers worldwide since launch, but has not provided an updated sales figure since."

Microsoft has said as of CES that they now have 18 million Kinects on the market. Sony has yet to update what the numbers are for the Move.
