What would it take to get a console/platform you don't own?

Xbox One - limited edition bundle with exclusive game and 1 year xbox live for $399.99.

Gaming PC (desktop) - more exclusives, more games that aren't simply console games with better graphics

Mobile gaming - uh.. better controls, more in-depth gameplay, something that feels more fleshed out

So for you to get a PC, you want more exclusives....from the platform with the most exclusives

Cheaper price and a library for Xbox consoles. I'd gladly rebuy a 360 at a cheap price and an Xbox One when it doesn't look like much like my PS4 in terms of library, which may take a while.

For the Wii U, a cheap price. I do want certain titles for it but not willing to pay $200 for them.

3DS - Release a 2DS XL. The 3DS XL is too uncomfortable to hold wheras the 2DS is comfortable enough, but the screen is too small. A 2DS XL would be perfect.

I own all of the other systems already.

To make me buy another console it would have to be an amazing exclusive that all my friends were playing and wanted me to join in on. I don't think it's going to happen.

1) X1 wont happen even with a 299 price tag let alone 399. Very limited exclusives variety speaking.

That is all really. Both are practically dead to me until some time in 2015 when Batman Arkham Knight and No Man's Sky come out. Even then the libraries seem very limited.

I'm pretty ticked about having to pay for my internet service twice for both of those consoles if I want to play online and that neither are backwards compatible. I used to think Sony was pretty cool in comparison to Microsoft in the console market, but now with paid online and this scammy looking Playstation Now? Not so much.

It looks like Wii U+PC is the clear best choice really.

XB1- Some good exclusives.

Only thing i feel is looking must play is Bloodborne and Scalebound. Forza Horizon 2 aswell if The Crew sucks and no otehr good racing games show ups. Mainly open world ones. Hoping next years NFS turns out good.

How many more exclusives do you need... PC has TONS more than all the consoles combined.

The retail price of games I want on the system must exceed the retail price of the system.

I won't be buying an Xbone until it has enough exclusives that I want to play, or until they add backwards compatibility. I already own everything else.

PS4 - Would maybe buy a second hand one for no more than £100 from somewhere like cash converters a few years from now if there was Shenmue 3 or a FFVII remake that I could not get on PC.

WiiU - already bought one for the mrs, never played on it.

PC - Already have one. Fulfills all my gaming needs, most exclusives, most high rated games, mods etc ...as long as there are gaming PCs I will probably own one.

No interest in handhelds but if my life depended on it and I had to choose between a Vita or an XBONE id choose a Vita.

XBone - none, already supporting MS with PC - windows os..MS should go back to PC.

PS4 - when more compelling games releases..that's what Im waiting for.

But isn't one of the points for ps4 ultiplats with better graphics? Why not PC? And for me it isn't price because PC has many more uses than a console.

Having a PS4 & Xbone atm, the only other system I'd consider is Wii U... but only if it has a decent price drop (it's still the same price here in Aus as it was at launch) and also if Nintendo started releasing Gamecube games for download.

I would buy a WiiU if

1 It was cheaper

2. Had a few exclusive RPGs that were good

3. More interesting exclusive new IPs. Rehashing Mario and Zelda 10 times a gen isnt going to cut it.

Ps4: Uncharted 4 to look amazing, get amazing scores and reviews, change up the gameplay from the last three.

Vita: Maybe when its a gen old and dead with support and someone sells it to me with a heap of great games for cheap.

Xbox One - Maybe if my PS4 broke down and all the great games went to xbone, or they started offering free online.

Gaming PC (desktop) - more games that I like playing and can't play on my labtop (that can play games like divinity OS) and can't be played on my PS4 and that's only if I can get it at a half decent price.

Wii U - uh.. Price Cut $150 for 32GB SKU or $129.99 for 8GBSKU.

I need to have more disposable income to warrant the purchase of an Xbox One when I already have a PS4 and Wii U. It would also take a stronger library of games, though if I could spend the money on an Xbox One at the release of the Master Chief Collection I'd totally buy one then.

WiiU and X1 I'm sure are great consoles, but I prefer the PS4....good price for it's hardware, longevity I'm sure, excellent 3rd party support, and the best mulitplats I'm sure. I'm mainly a single console owner, so I have no interest in devoting more time and investing more money on 2 more consoles when I know I'll never get to play the few gems on each console.

The consoles just need libraries of games I value enough that it's worth spending such a huge amount of money to have access to them.

PC has really spoiled me with the sheer amount of amazing games, and how insanely cheap it is to game on PC. It's very hard to justify spending $400+ on a console when they might get a single worthwhile exclusive in any given year.

I could probably find 4-5 games worth playing on the Xbox One and Wii U by next year, but it's a hefty price to pay for access to them. On the Xbox side it'd be $400 + a subscription to Xbox Live + $30-$60 a game, and on the Wii U it'd be $300 + the full price of each game that Nintendo is intent on charging no matter how old the game is.

If I took that money, and converted it into PC games, I could easily buy 75-100 games during a Steam sale. That's what makes it so hard for me to want a console.

Before I ever consider buying a console, they'd have to stop ripping users off at the pump.

Pay for online? Nah, I already pay for internet. No user-owned servers? I don't want to lose access to a games online functionality simply because it is no longer profitable. HD remakes? Nope, I'll just download a lovingly crafted texture mod. Game is buggy and it's no longer in the devs interest to fix it (looking at you, Bethesda)? Well, thankfully the PC user community cares enough to patch these things at no charge.

If you want to see what a community can do for a game, check out the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Complete mod. You just don't get that kind of tender-loving care from the community on the consoles, because the platform holders simply won't let you.

And then there's the whole backwards compatibility thing. I still play PC games from the 90's from time-to-time. If your past-gen console has given up the ghost, you're not very likely to get to play anything from just a few years ago unless they re-release it for the new platform, which is another purchase.

Absolutely nothing. I don't have time to give one console's library the attention it deserves. Owning a second console will always be a waste of time and money for me.

I've played through a few hundred games in my life so far, so I'm guessing that over the rest of my life I will have time for 75-100 games.

But that's not the point anyways. The point is that the cost to get into console gaming, and to simply pay for their expensive games, is way too high when compared to what I could reasonably buy on PC. Add on online fees, and DLC prices, and console gaming is even more expensive.

And that answers your question "What would it take to get a console/platform you don't own?"

Well.... The consoles would either have to get great libraries full of awesome games that justify their cost, or they'd have to be significantly cheaper. The problem is consoles have not only gotten more expensive, but their exclusive libraries have shriveled up over the years as well. I'm not crazy enough to drop so much money on systems that might get 1 or 2 worthwhile exclusives (if that) in any given year.
