I had started a thread a while ago about where the majority of you went to receive your videogame media related news. Of particular note was where individuals went to receive/listen to game reviews.

The consensus among the people who responded back showed that a good portion of gamers actually used another source outside of the typical game website as their “go-to” when it came to game reviews.

What was surprising to me however (although I know it shouldn’t.) was how many responded that they received their information, specifically as it pertains to game reviews, from Youtube reviewers.

Curious… is there a more popular Youtube personality that most of you trust when it comes to reviews or do you just type in “NAME OF GAME” in the youtube search bar and just click the first one that says “NAME OF GAME REVIEW”?

-I don’t understand Ninja. I keep typing in “NAME OF GAME” in the Youtube search bar but all I get are videos for ABBA or the Crystal Method. Strange-

-CURIOUS NINJA APPROVED-

Quite a few actually, at the least they've sold me more on a game and I all around care more about their thoughts because they are far more willing to be harsh when necessary, but in a way that's constructive, well thought out, and detailed. Not fucking bullshit like that worth a buy dude or padded out to an absurd run time like an angry joe video.

I usually like to watch:

- MatthewMatosis

- LazyGameReviews (LGR)

- ExtraCredits

- The Gaming Brit

- Joseph Anderson

Those are the channels I like to watch for gaming essay or critical commentary. There are other gaming related Youtube channels I watch but for comedy and fun factor.

None......I don't really have time to be listening to people giving me their opinions, I would rather watch a stream of someone playing for a few min to be honest. I'll glance at text reviews and get what I want from them(pros-cons, etc). The other thing is I'm simply not someone who really puts any real faith in others' opinions, overall I prefer to look at certain key facts and make my decisions based on that. I do the same thing with TV shows and movies.

Mack from Worth a buy and GGGmanlives are by far best reviewers ever.

Macks reviews are based on reality of gaming industry that professional reviewers fear to admit because they will loose their jobs.

I don't follow any Youtubers for gaming reviews. I don't mind Total Biscuit but I don't follow him or necessarily search out his point of view on a game.

Easy Allies is the only one I follow. If I want second opinions, I may watch a few others, but not usually. I am more likely to come to these boards and get input from a few people I trust on here, as opposed to people that have interests in giving good reviews or just click bait reviews.

Them Easy Allies fellas are the best in the biz and they have a wide range of reviewers who's tastes cater towards specific genres. Want to see if that new driving game is worth it's salt? Listen to Bloodworth potificate. Internet hating on GTA cuz it's too popular? See what Jones has to say about that. Need to scratch that Weaboo itch and cop some JRPG's? Check out Been Moore and Damiani's recommendations. Those dudes are my one stop shop for youtube gaming reviews.

Their podcasts are dope too.

No definite personalities. I'm willing to watch anyone's video reviews. But, if the host spends too much being the center of attention rather than the game, I stop right there and move on to the next video.

I only use gameplay from random clips or twitch. I don't watch any specific person for reviews. If I like the look of the gameplay, I'll buy it and check it out for myself. I'd rather have just straight up gameplay, and not listen to some person prattle on about their opinion.

I don't really follow any YouTube personalities for game reviews per say as I generally just watch GameSpot video reviews so I don't think that counts. However I do check out Angry Joe sometimes.

Only real one I watch is AVGN, but I only got int0 his channel for entertainment purposes or learning what gaming was like back in the day.

There's aren't any youtubers I watch to sell me on games; I generally know what I like and if I do want other opinions, I'll just use forums or an aggregate site like Metacritic for a general impressions. I only watch youtubers for entertainment purposes.

Well , noone in particular.

I think reviews as opinions and nothing more and since im gamer since forever i can have my own and if i want a score just for the cause , ill always go with critics Average than a single guy opinion.

Now that doesnt mean i wont watch/read a review here and there and that there arent people out that that i found myself agree most of the time with what they have to say. Such a guy is AngryJoe. 80-90% of the time is like this guy speaks for myself is most of the games i can have an opinion about.

Generally speaking , the best thing to do is to be your own critic and not go by a single guys opinion when it comes to video games. I had a blast with 7 score games in the past and pretty bad experiences with games of 8-9 ( diablo 3 for example) etc.

I don't really have any go-to site/personality for reviews. I don't really bother much with reviews tbh. I'll sift through a bunch of Steam user reviews if I'm really on the fence about something.

But I do genuinely enjoy watching videos from SuperBunnyhop and MatthewMatosis, even if it's on a game I've already played. It's like peaking into some bizarre alternate dimension where this industry actually has real critics who offer insight and are capable of calling something what it is. Not in the stupid shitty gamer way where they just act like they're angry and everything sucks, but actual well thought out criticism. No hype sway, no hyperbole, no honoring prestige or pedigree, no agenda. Just an honest detailed analysis of a game.

It's so strange watching their stuff and then going back to the current shit show that is gaming journalism and reviews. Makes you wonder what this industry would be like if it had some integrity.

This! I like the way he goes into depths of a game that he finds wrong and to back up his claims as well. I'm just more surprise not a lot of people don't see that, go deep into a game, take No Man's Sky & Quantum Break for example.

Super Bunnyhop and Mark Brown, though the latter delves more in analysis than traditional critiques.

Also while it's mainly meant for laughs, Videogamedunkey's Dunkview videos can be fairly insightful in a short amount of time.

I mainly watch Twitch Streams, i avoid people who have agendas(can sense bias) and/or give a number rating review.

Most of the channels i watch i wouldnt say really review but they just play the game and say what works, what doesnt work and/or what theyd like to see.

My go-to Twitch Peeps: BadBunnny, Daikon(awesome retro game streamer, will be my go-to for switch), CohhCarnage. Avoidthepuddle. Basically i look for a game im interested in and find someone who is just having fun and playing the game regardless of mainstream hype wether positive or negative.

I follow Easy Allies for actual gaming news discussion. These guys are mostly very thoughtful and insightful. They also have some excellent, entertaining content.

I don't read or watch reviews anymore.
