Whatever happened to snowboarding games?

Ah, I remember the many weekends I wasted playing SSX! Good times! :)

Never been too much a fan of the games listed but me my family and friends had a blast on N64 with local four player split screen..... Snowboard Kids. :) Always thought that game would be a real winner had somebody made it an XBLA game with online MP.

They're generally for much more popular sports than snowboarding. Also, an example of an EA sports title that is no longer made is their Rugby games, so not all EA sports games are drawn out.

That's a good point. But that's not because they've run their course. It's because there are better things to invest in, in EA's case. But a new SSX would sell well if marketed correctly.

I'm not tired of them. Hell, I might consider a Xbone/PS4 if Skate 4 gets released. And I have no interest in either of them right now.

I loved Cool Boarder 3, but I think that they won't sell as good now as back in the day.

There was one made a couple years ago and I'd like to see what can be done on the newer hardware.

I wish a new Skate would come out, honestly that game was awesome, the problem is as EA always do, and milk it to quickly and because it so quick not enough was done to make it better and just got tired, i think it's time for a new skate game or a bmx game, would be amazing on PS4/X1

Happy its gone with bmx garbage games and skateboard games. Now i'd like fifa/madden/nhl/tenis/golf gone from gaming but that's not happening.

Nope. These games would have never been popular if online console mp took off 10 years earlier.

They didnt get tired of it they simply found other games they like more.

The last SSX game was pretty good actually. It even got good reviews. People just didn't buy it :-(

It also has a slammin soundtrack.

I liked SSX 3 the best. I Liked the ability to freeride backcountry style. I didn't like the most recent SSX as much either. I loved the idea of riding real mountains, but the execution was less than ideal. I liked the old formula...races, slope-style, half-pipe, and the ability to freeride the mountain top to bottom.

Yes, popularity plays massive role which I thought was obvious, but apparently it wasn't. Thanks for explaining how popular sports games continue to sell to that poster since he never factored popularity into his reply.

FPS online mp hadn't caught on yet with consolites during Snowboarding and Skateboarding genres heyday.

Generally speaking, people don't get bored with genres, they simply find other genres they like better.

Notice how people haven't gotten bored of fps. Look at Destiny breaking new ip sales records just this week.

FPS have been megapopular on consoles for nearly 20 years now. Goldeneye, 1997, over 8 million copies (as many as Halo).
