yes, because miscarriages are hilarious, right?

@jake44: agreed. i'm quite impressed with how it's doing, I owe valve a lot of thanks for this initiative.
witcher 2, witcher 3, project cars, the new civ, civ 5, among the sleep, star citizen - just a few games off the top of my head with are either out and supporting linux, or not out but when they are - will support linux.
i'm pretty enthusiastic about all things computing, linux included.
Flopped hard like everything hermits tend to hype these days. It really didn't stand a chance against consoles like PS4 and XB1. It's an overpriced POS and you much better off building your own PC or buying a console from Sony or M$.
how could something that hasn't been released flop?
They're still in development, with their anticipated release pushed to 2015. Considering Valve is under zero financial constraints and the role they and Steam OS play in Valve's long term plans, they are far more interested in getting things right than getting them out fast.
Certainly Steam Machines are positioned to compete in the console arena, but the biggest goal right now is to get Steam OS widely adopted as a gaming platform by consumers whether they prefer playing at their desk or on the couch. If it gets enough of a base all major development starts supporting it and Valve has an excellent hedge against MS's possible intentions with the Windows Store.

I didn't see any hermit hype this. Unlike you peasants we don't hype everything.
The OS, outside the Big Picture GUI, was bare-bones. I wish they had plasma desktop + OpenGL 3.x v-sync enabled by default so many could see how really impressive and aesthetically pleasing Linux based desktops could be.

It's not even out yet... Steam OS is still Alpha. Waht

Unlike Valve, their hardware partners are under financial constraints, and are sitting on aging systems that were good to go long ago.
Valve decided to delay and redesign the controller, thus screwing over their hardware partners that had machines ready to go (a box can't be labeled a steam machine unless it has the steam controller packaged with it).
I wonder if there will be the same cavalcade of venders willing to jump aboard when the controller is actually ready.
@Shielder7: SteamOS got delayed until 2015. However, you are definitely putting words in Gabe's mouth. It was never said they were going to overtake consoles, just that it was going to be another gaming platform.
Sometimes I wonder if some of the people posting on this forum are able to cross a road unaided.
Its like asking "Whatever happened to Bloodborne, why can't I buy it yet?"

"Another Gaming Platform".
It's freakin' Linux.
Don't they only run the Steam games that are Linux compatible? If so, they don't have a huge library relative to regular Windows Steam, and they don't get big AAA releases for the most part. Plus, anybody who is nerdy enough to want one - and I don't use that term disparagingly - would just build a dual boot machine and install Steam OS on a partition anyway, thereby negating the need for a retail unit.
bring more people back to the PC market that's being completely taken over by tablets, Macs and Netbooks.
The PC market makes more than all 6 consoles combined currently.
Factor out tablets, Macs and Netbooks and I wouldn't be surprised if they were in dead last.
Flopped hard like everything hermits tend to hype these days. It
If this was true why does PC have more aaa/aa than pc this year and gen and last gen and more sale than all 6 consoles atm?
?
It does not generate more AAA sales your going to need to cite a source for this.
Consoles will die out on their own. Steam doesn't need lift a finger.
The writing was on the wall when both Sony and MS announced that they were making walled in PCs for their final generation.
R.I.P. consoles. Your industry retardation will not be missed.
Yeah Consoles are dieing out so fast they're still making record breaking sales.
Consoles aren't going anywhere. PCs on the other hand.... Well there was a reason Microsoft came up with the abomination that is windows 8 to try and cap on the tablet and Mac market that's totally taking over PCs.
The projected prices for Steam Machines were ridiculous. They are charging a arm and a leg for labor fees or something.
IDK but I'm still sceptical about the idea anyway. It's a waste of a PC to have one purely for gaming imo. They're so much more than that. Seems like a disservice to the components considering they're pretty powerful and you're an OS away from being able to do a load of other stuff with them.
It got the miserable death it deserved.
Poor peasant.
You're not fooling anyone.
I am now 90% hermit.
Is the remaining 10% lunacy?
No it is really 70% hermit and the remaining 30% is Consoles/handhelds.
Why the sudden change of heart?
Consoles have their place in gaming, right behind the PC. ^_^
kinda have one already. well i dont have the controller...i have a 360 controller.
but a PC connected to my TV running Steam on a linux distro...yup. tis up and running now. if i press the big picture button its a steam box...yipee!!
i started to blog about it here...got to day 2...then i got a wiiu and got a bit distracted :S. i will get back to it though...i have a ton of games to play on linux. last i checked i was having a few issues but i reckon most of them are because im not using AMD drivers for my hardware...im just using the open source drivers. i wanted to see how those would perform before switching them out.

BTW, I'm not a console peasant. I'm a gamer that supports PC and console gaming. Unlike dumb hermits that tend to think everything is better on PCs I have grown to see the light over the years, and realized that there are some things that consoles do better than PCs. Convenience and ease of use in the living room is one of these things.

I wasn't a member of GS so I dunno about here but on other forums like Gametrailers where I post there were a lot of hermits there hyping it.
Perhaps, hermits on SW were wiser and didn't hype it but seeing how rabid some hermits here are I doubt it.

Spoken like a true ignorant fanboy.
Lets see off the top of my head.
1. Convenience and ease of use
2. Better Exclusives
3. Better optimzation
4. Cheaper - and yes it is cheaper, the 400-500$ mythical Gaming PC is a myth, if you put a gaming PC together with cheap parts you're just asking for trouble and will probably have to replace half of them in a few years when they get fried not to mention trying to run something on minimum system requirements is like trying to get a quadriplegic to run a marathon. ( You need to drop 1000-1500$ for a half decent rig and if you're starting from scratch much more)
5. Option to by Used
6. No DRM BS
7.More Quality Control and Assurance (Yes Steam is broken in this aspect just ask the fat bastard known as Jim Sterling)
8. I actually "OWN" my games, unlike you hermits AKA (The Master Disgrace) That simply rent them.

2. No
3. If you call some games running at like sub 20fps
4. Well most of us have full time jobs and don't depend on parents so we can afford it. You can get a "half-decent" rig for $800, have you ever built a PC ?

They're Windows Machines now.
Well, the Alienware version is. lol!! I had no interest in it anyways, so I could care less. It was aimed at PC gamers mainly, but they are much happier with their powerful rigs.

PC definitely sucks for ease of use and convenience compared to consoles. To argue otherwise is foolisheness.

Yes

Yeah because that never will happen on any PC............ Doesn't change the point and it's a known fact consoles generally have better optimization.
4. Well most of us have full time jobs and don't depend on parents so we can afford it. You can get a "half-decent" rig for $800, have you ever built a PC ?
I have a full time job as well but that's not the point and $800 is still twice as much as a PS4 and half-decent is really only half way there now isn't it.
5. You can buy used parts
And I can buy a used Console but WTF does that have to do with being able to buy used games? Not to mention this totally contradicts your above statement and if you're buying used PC parts odds are they're cheaply refurbished and you'll be buying new parts again when the crappy soldering job wears off.
6. Name the last game with DRM issuesOff the top of my head the latest SimCity, but I'm pretty sure there's ones newer than that I'm willing to guess any EA game.

1- Not by much. Inserting a code, download and install automatically. Easy
2- Subjective. I find Divinity Original Sin to be far superior to TLOU despite scores and awards IMO. Not that TLOU is bad btw. Even then, PC has more AA/AAA games if you want to go by scors
3- Most PC games are well optimized. There's always going to be a few configurations that have issues here and thre for certain games, but overall it's fine. Even then, community fixes.
4- My PC costed 800 euros and has backwards compatibility, K/M support, can use any controller and not the madatory 50 euro DS4/XB1, Free online multiplayer, cheaper games at launch (G2A), mods, and more. For twice the price, i get more than 5x the value. Also, 400-450 euros for a machine to play 60 euro games isn't cheap.
5- Cheaper games on PC. Also, torrents if you want to check out a game before buying. To make sure, not saying pirate is fine all that.
6- Steam is good DRM, and like i said, you can pirate the games you bought to store them, like me, in case something happens. So i have both a physical and digital copy of the game.
7- Quality control for games that aren't even on consoles. Dumb logic. Just do some research in case you're not sure.
8- Yes, so do i. My USB pens with the pirated copies of my legally bought games says so. And Valve said they'd patch Steam in case it went down so you wouldn't need it.
