Once more for me, Gears of war 3. Game was perfection IMO, can't stop playing it; and I generally don't play games for more then an hour at the most.

Thanks for clarifying "released" Hopefully that cuts down on the nerds saying games they've never played :P For me it's Xenoblade hands down WreckEm711
Yeah, generally the notion is that any game you're considerably hyped about that hasn't been released is an automatic GOTY.
Gears3, while a very well put together project, runs into that halo territory by now, of being based on already familiar framework. DE or Skyward Sword seem to be the most original......................though that voice acting in DE, alone, pretty much hands it to Zelda.
EDIT: Oh wait, Super Mario 3D Land has a shot, too.

Gears of war 3 is basically what Reach should've been.

Disagree, and so do many others that play Reach everyday online. Imo, Reach is the better game as it has tighter controls and mixed up the gameplay a bit from Halo 3.
The Witcher 2, Deus Ex, and Portal 2 all share the spot for me.
Perhaps Skyrim might unseat them all - if Bethesda puts a better effort at storytelling this time around.
Driver: San Francisco. And Gears 3 has barely made it past the wedding night, let alone the honeymoon period yet.foxhound_fox
im with this man.
Such an underrated game, fun driving, always has a nod to its roots, plays like a dream, and the online is insanely fun to pick up and play :D
So far it´s between The Witcher 2,Deus Ex HR and Shogun 2. Also really enjoyed Yakuza 4.
But probably TW2,amazing game.
Arach666
Exactly this, minus the Yakuza 4 part (I haven't played it)

Gears and Halo are to different to compare. And I'm bias since I've been playing Halo longer. IMO, but of course not yours I didn't enjoy Reach. Though large sums agree with me large sums agree with you as well. I just feel Reach wasn't as great as it could've been. It didn't really "perfect" the franchise; I feel it made it worse. I didn't really like the new controls, though there alright now. I still enjoy the old ones more. And both really did change game play quite a bit, even

I actually tend to agree with you, but I do enjoy the change of pace. My copy of Halo 3 isn't with me at the moment--is it still playable online? Certain areas needed to be addressed that weren't. Namely, the sniper rifle. Ammo, limited respawn, or SOMETHING needed to level this out. It has the ability to spoil online play. I can't tell you the amount of times where I'm playing CTF and a player would rather build up stats than jump in a warthog and go for the flag with under a minute remaining.
I think Wins in MP should greatly affect stats. If devs did this it would keep things more competitive and force players to work better as a team.
Shogun 2, nothing like commanding an army.
Games that could change my mind:
Dark Souls
Skyward Sword
Skyrim
Gears 3
Uncharted 3
Obviously it's Witcher 2 or Deus Ex HR.
Even though when it comes to GOTY Awards it's normally "Popularity = Quality." Which is why I couldn't care less.

Most review sites grade according to a "Popularity = Quality" scale, especially western review sites.
That's why you read well-made user reviews, not professional reviews when considering a game.

Pretty much, you know it's bad when that abomination of a game Dragon Age 2 gets the same score as The Witcher 2.
That I've played? Well I really enoy LBP2 this year but I wouldn't call it GOTY.
But I already know what the GOTY is, and it's Skyrim! There is no way around this, no other game can compete with the insane amount of content and replay value that Skyrim is going to have. To think otherwise is just silly....
The runner up is Uncharted 3

X: Rebirth for the PC has the same amount of longevity, depth, content, and replay value that Skyrim will have. It's also releasing on the same day.
So why isn't that considered for GOTY?
For me its 4 games that are tied, right now I cant pick the winner its that close.
- Total War Shogun2
- The Witcher 2
- Deus Ex HR
- Gears Of War 3
All 4 of those games are simply amazing, Ill wait till the end of the year to pick :P
Best DLC of the year though has already been decided... OLD WORLD BLUES for Fallotu New Vegas is amazing and the best DLC ive ever played by a long shot just awesome.

Because no one has heard of Reborn or whatever it's called, sounds like some Christian game lol (nothing wrong with that).
But I doubt it can even come close to competing with Skyrim, it just can't. The Elder Scrolls has a strong fanbase and that makes it a real game, just like Uncharted 3.

It's actually a space trading and combat simulator.
You start with your own space-ship and you're set free in this MASSIVE GALAXY where you can do whatever you want.
There's a plot if you like that sort of thing, but it's mostly about exploring, building up your own trade empire from scratch, and going on recon/search and destroy/escort missions for corporations and governments.
You haven't heard of it because it's made by a niche German company, but I assure you, the game has incredible graphics, gameplay, and depth that surpasses Skyrim in terms of content and complexity.
Like Skyrim, the X fanbase is very dedicated and strong. There are tons of mods for the games in the franchise.
