Moores gone, what can this mean for microsoft, was this because of the billion dollar mess up, or is this just a money thing ??, i think Moore knew what was going down with the 360 failure rate and did not want to be the fall guy so hes been linging this up for a while, Whos gonna be the new face of microsoft gaming division now ? Master chief?

Shane kim maybe? The VP of MS gaming. It'd be good to have a Japanese guy at the top too, maybe open some doors for MS gaming in Japan.

Its not because of the Xbox business that he left. He left for his family. They wanted to live where they grew up, California. That happens to be where he would be working as head of EA sports. The deal was signed 5 weeks ago, before the warrenty announcement was made

Moore was an executive, not a designer, I doubt he resigned due to for technical problems with the console.

It's more likely that he left because of the way he handled the problem, but I doubt that too.

This sort of thing doesn't happen just because he wants to move to San Francisco. That is stupid. The billion-dollar-hit on the warranty issue and Moore's leaving can not be looked at as two independent events. MS needs new leadership in the gaming division in order to get beyond this mess.

I'm a huge 360 GAMES fan. I didn't mind it when I had to send in my 360 for refurbishment (8 total days - wow, now that was tough  ), but for MS to continually deny that there was a problem in the hardware and then turn around with this is just embarassing.

That being said - what is next for MS? Personally, I think they need to pull-back a bit from their statement that they will be profitable in 2008. Ever since that statement, it seems like there has been a shift in the decision making coming from MS. EVERYTHING has been money-making oriented and not done with the sole purpose of promoting gaming or rewarding their users. Prior to the launch of the 360 and shortly thereafter, there was a ton of free content on Live, tons of promotions/giveaways/etc. Since that "profitable in 2008" statement, we've seen unheard of milkage in the Marketplace (Guitar Hero, Gears Map Pack, etc.), charging $120 for a Hard Drive, the Elite, more high-priced add-ons, ZERO user based content on Live, trying to justify the $50 a year for Live, etc.

I think this focus on making a profit in the gaming division MAY spell the fall of MS in the gaming business. If they continue to overcharge for content on the Marketplace with ZERO laxing of these things (I think the COD2 map pack is STILL 800 points after a year of being released).

This is Funny- Ken can leave Sony and they're ok, Moore leaves MS and they're failing?.:roll:In my opinion they will continue to be on the market for a long, long time, because they don't want to give up the 'entertainment' device in the living room to Sony or Nintendo.

It's simple. After all the 360 hardware failures and the attempted cover up, the top guys at MS decided some heads were gonna roll. Moore was the person ultimately in charge of overseeing the 360 roll out so, whether he was directly involved in the design of the 360 or not, he's the one ultimately responsible for the fiasco. Of course MS wasn't going to publicly blast him, that's not how the heavy hitters play ball. They let him appear to retire, thanked him for his hard work, and showed him the door. The same thing happened with Ken at Sony after the shaky PS3 rollout. After all, the top guys at these companies know it's only one slip up and the same thing happens to them, and none of them wants to be embarrased when it's their turn.

Just because they can afford it doesn't mean they'll pay him anything he wants. MS didn't become this rich by being a pushover or throwing away money. They did it by being smart. They obviously thought the smart money lied with letting him go.

I would have to agree with some of you guys regarding Moore's departure and 360 failures. It's just perfect timing. Why all of a sudden he wants to leave? To move his family? Please, that's such a cop-out. Clearly, the recent Warranty announcement, the apology from Moore and MS unwilling to completely resolve the 360 failure rates has something to do with his departure.

It's quite obvious.
