You're right. Halo > Killzone

=/= means on par or more or less the same, its matter of opinion, i say kz2, u say halo...opinion....kz2 halo and gears probs 3 best fps games this gen....i did play halo and gears, but kz2 is the winner for me...

Ah, alright. I just get antsy when people start using mathematical symbols in system wars. cos(360)^RRoD != (PSX + PS3)(YLoD/GBC)

Exactly! That probably has to be my only gripe with Halo. Alot of what makes the story deep and interesting isn't fully fleshed out. Take my avatar. I'm amazed at how many people DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS!

In fact alot of people here seem to be very clueless on a number of other Halo elements. They don't know what MJOLNIR is, or ONI, or even ODSTs (frighteningly even though there is a game called ODST they're still in the dark). And they sure as hell don't know what Master Chief's name is. :?

SpiritOfFire117

i can't see your avatar clearly enough on my screen to figure out what it is, i'm assuming i can make out an eagle, so i'll guess the Spartan II insignia. did i get it right? if not what is it?

It's the insignia for the United Nations Space Command Defense Force and if you bash Halo(not saying that you are) and not know what that is then you shouldn't be allowed to have a say in discussing story quality. It would be like bashing Star Wars and not knowing what a lightsaber was.

I've actually been in a Star Wars argument like that. It was hilarious.

If people would just go into some other forms of media to find out more about the universe and story, they'd love it. Truly, how anyone who has ever played a Halo doesn't know what MJOLNIR is or ODSTs are, just don't deserve to play it. Also, how hard is it to remember United Nations Space Command Defense Force? If you can't remember that, at least remember United Nations Space Command.

Exactly, most people take one look at Halo and pass it off as space marines fighting the big bad aliens, but if you look a bit deeper, you realize what the story is actually about.

Right. I do this with all other series as well. I can't call myself a fan unless I dwelve into every inch of its mythos.

And this is why no one believes when people say that Halo has an amazing story. Read the books and they'd see how deep the story really is.

Yeah, I hate how they can do so much with the story but only expand the universe in the books and comics etc., hopefully Reach will have a great story since it's presumably based on the novel. [sarcasm] But.. but.. Master Chief IS his name, it can't be some rank in the marines or anything, I mean obviously his mama gave him the name "Master Chief" :( [/sarcasm]

People should at least take the effort to learn his name. His name isn't Master Chief. He's Master Chief Petty Officer of the UNSC Navy John-117; Spartan-II Commando of the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command. Or, you could just say John. That's simpler.

And the Halo Universe and Story. Epic failure.

shakmaster13

Played it, hated it. Plain and simple. Just another craptastic shooter to add to the long list with Call Of Duty, Medal of Honor, Gears of War, Resistance, etc.

If you don't like FPS games go back to playing animal crossing and the other games you enjoy.

Gears isn't even an FPS. And GreenY, did you really play ALL of those games or do you just assume they all suck because you're either a die-hard sheep or just an fps hater (you rated Halo 3 3.0, lol, seriously, if that's not biased IDK what is)

Same here. I'm not a full fledged halo fan, but I'm trying. I still need to try Halo Wars, ODST, and finish reading the books.

Imo, it's one of the main reasons people bash the series' story. It requires a lot of extra effort on the part of an interested party to get anywhere. It's a good story, they just don't really cover all that much of it the actual games.

If that's the case, Star Wars says hi with its 100+ novels, 100+ comics, 100+ games, 10+ cartoon series, and thousands of years of history and technology that can't be covered over the course of 6 2 hour movies.

Which saddens me. If they'd cover it more in the games, then maybe there would be less Halo bashers. Also, Epic needs to follow this example and flesh out the very promising storyline that is Gears of War.

It takes a completely dedicated Star Wars fanatic to go through each and every bit of Star Wars history. I'm not that into anything.

Yeah I only have about 10 novels, a few comics, a few DVDs of some of the cartoons, and good selection of games. Yet I haven't begun to scratch the surface.

I'm thinking of reading the Gears novels, but I want to read the Halo ones and finish the first two Gears games before I do. I also need to read the Mass Effect novels. I was so caught up in Death Note that I completely lost track of my novel reading. Damn the Japanese and their incredible manga!

Multiplayer is a HUGE reason man.

Whats so gerat about COD without multiplayer.

A lot of people could give a crap about campaigns especially for FPS's.

Multiplayer is what gives game longevity.

hkhatir

I dare say that back in COD1 and 2, the SP blows the MP out of the water.

You need to play the first game to understand the first book, Aspho Fields. It takes place in between Gears 1 and 2 with flashbacks of Marcus and Doms' childhood and military service. I'm sure there's a comic too.

There is. And a third novel, Anvil Gate, releasing March 30(according to Amazon). Well, I'd love to continue this conversation, but I have school tomorrow and I really need some sleep. Talk to you later.

It's an alright game. Good, but not the best like everyone praises it to be.

The books are also good, I've read all of them except Fall of Reach.

I agree with your assessment of the series. You really should read reach, though. It's the best one, in my opinion.

I've never been a Halo fan. The games just doesn't do it for me. However I think the core of Halo's success is (or was) that Halo 1 was really the first FPS to get it right on the consoles. It was the first FPS that didn't feel like a PC mouse and keyboard shooter that just forced you to move the mouse cursor with an analog stick. It was easy to pick up, but with it's multi-player, there was a lot of challenge to be had. It was one of the early console games that really managed to make good use of internet multiplayer. It had pretty good visuals for an Xbox game. I think, because of that, a lot of Xbox gamers have the same fond memories of the Halo brand as a lot of hermits got when it comes to Doom or Half-Life.
