I don't get what's so interesting about the Halo stories and universe! g805ge

You should have stopped there.

At least then, your thread a day trolling/bashing about Halo wouldn't have been so obvious.

This thread reminds me of this weeks Epic Battle Cry on Epicbattleaxe.com, its easily one of the best gaming podcasts out there, i highly recommend everyone watching the whole thing but if you want the halo part its at around 22:30 and it goes into about the hype of halo and they cover alot of stuff, but the story is talked about and i think they put it right, saying how the halo story is at about the quality of a weekday scifi movie, and also aspect of it is like a laser, if your in that laser its just simply amazing for you, but if your outside of it its just no big deal for you.

nothing. as soon as you have a story where the protagonist has absolutley no personality whatsoever, it automatically nullifies any enjoyment i'd have for it.

luckily though, i play the halo games (minus halo wars)for the awesome gameplay :D, not the story.

Let me get this right. You claim to have read all the books, played theg ames and know the story. And then go on to say it's about aliens invading earth? :|

Do you even know what a halo is?

He has a personality.

It's just that of a very serious soldier, that has only known fighting his entire life. He never says "can't" and would rather die than not complete a mission. That is who he is. And that is why Cortana is a bit sassy; to balance out M.C.'s dry style.

Well when it first came out it seemed really original, also as you mentioned it is a much deeper universe then other games and that also draws people in, i agree its not the best written story ever and i've read better but people enjoy it abd its all opinion.

The grave mind or whatever reciting poetry on the last level was pretty silly, so was never getting to fight it.

[QUOTE="SparkyProtocol"][QUOTE="sSubZerOo"]Nothing even the books of what I have read compare nothing to other sci-fi universes... Warhammer 40k blows it out of the water.. But I don't think Halo is known for the story as so much as being a good console shooter.sSubZerOo
Please. 40K is not about a good story. It is just too silly. RAWR WE ARE MACHO WE PWN EVERYTHING RAWR WE DO MANLY THINGZ RAWR!

Actually I would argue Master Chief is far more that way, the game centers around a single Spartan taking out and combating two alien races mainly by them selves.. While none such thing happens in WH40k, not even Space Marine in which they do get wiped out alot.. Infact the Imperium or good guys are basically losing the war right now badely.

Have you read Reach yet?

Because every Sci-Fi story has religiously brainwashed Aliens that would kill everything living thing in the Universe (which they don't know that firing the Halo's will do this) to go on the Great Journey and have salvation.

And you probably think the MGS series has an amazingly strong narrative, correct? Newsflash, just about every story in a video game has been done countless times over in novels, films, and other entertainment mediums. The only exception I can think of off the top of my head right now is Bioshock, which still derives a lot of it's themes and concepts from Ayn Rand. Halo is pretty fleshed out for a typical science fiction narrative. And no, the books don't only give light on the Spartans' backstory, they do in fact expand the universe. Either you lied about reading all the books (or any), or you don't understand what it means to expand the universe of a particular franchise. And before I get bashed to death for my initial statement, I never said MGS' story is weak, just that it's nothing special. It's just extremely well told, but privatized military, super soldier clones, and political espionage missions isn't something new to this world.

I never understood the praise for Halo's story. im not saying the books are bad because I never read them but the games NEVER had a good story. The story is poorly told and not very good at all. To me it was generic when you get down to the base of things.

Ahem what? The storline is MGS games is very poorly told. I had to play MGS3 about 2-3 times before understanding it but even then im not sure I understand the game 100%. And don't even get me started on MGS2 which never made much sense in the first place.

Why do you make a "Bash Halo" thread every day? because you just do As for the story, there is alot of dept to Halos Universe and quite frankly the Lore of Halo spanks most modern day games by a wide margin, although yes Halos best story stuff has been related to things not in the videogames. Master Chief is essentially a Gordan Freeman like character and meant more as a link to the game NO, it is not a typical aliens invading earth there is actually alot more to it, Half Life is formulaic, and how can you talk hamfisted dialogue and then say COD 4 has a better story?

Who said the only good thing about Halo is the storyline? I hate the storyline yet still love the games as a whole. As a matter of fact I consider myself a true Halo fan yet have only played about an hour total of the first three installments campaigns. XBL FTW

The books.

Silverbond
And that is the problem. If I have to read the books to get a grasp of things, then the developers have completely missed the point of their primary medium. Saying that Halo has a good story; Its just so horriby told in the games it pretty much abolishes the quality it has.

Halo was never known for a good storyline :?. In fact fps these days aren't story driven and have average-good story.
