Whats so great about left 4 dead?

The main quality of Left 4 Dead is the AI director. It adds an intensity to the game while taking away the repetition and predictability. You never know where the zombies are coming from or how many will spawn. The game monitors your performance and tailors the experience based on that. Couple that with how reliant it is on co-op (Valve developers have died in demonstrations because one squad member messed around) and you have a damn promising game. If your only concern is that it doesn't look as good graphically as Far Cry 2, then I don't really know what to say to you.

So it brings something to the table along the lines of AI. Thats all you really had to say was that the came doesn't have the best graphics but it does have great AI. Although I wonder how good the AI really is and how many paths can you really take going through each level. I've seen games that try to accomplish things like this that just fall short of what people really expected.

I don't know any peter but there are lots of games that have tried to come up with that same thing of no replayability. I could say it about dynasty warriors and how you could play it differently each time you played the same map but could you really play it that differently? See what I mean

Dynasty Warriors had different scenarios on the same map triggered pending on what you did as scripts.

Left4Dead isnt scripted, everything is randomly generated on a level, so its never the same.

What makes Resistance great? 60 players isnt new.... its just a sequal to a medoicre shooter thats PS3 exclusive, Far Cry 2 isnt unique, STALKER already did most of its features bar the onnoying "heal yourself" which ultimatly with be a boring repetitive gimmick.

Everything is randomly generated on a level? You go into a big building all kinds of zombies starting pouring out. You play the level again the zombies are still gonna show up in that building. It won't be like that for every building but there are certain points in the game where the zombies are gonna show up every time you play.

no their arent....all the zombie actions are procedurally generated...meaning that you will never go through the same level the same way twice....

and the PC version ships with a super powerfull map editor that lets you design your own levels from scrath.

I have heard that exact same kind of statement before and most games don't pull it off as good as it sounds. Maybe this game will change that though who knows? The map editor part sounds good.

Except this is Valve...a vastly superior developer to Ubisoft....they will not release the game if they are not capable of pulling it off.

and the Map editor Left For Dead is getting on the PC is a real map editor....none of this toned down crap thats coming to Farcry 2, the L4D map editor is the one Valve uses to make the game.

WHAT IS IT?

Left 4 Deadis a first-person shooter being made by Valve (Developers of Half-Life). It pits four humans (referred to as survivors) against hordes of zombies (referred to as infected). The Infected are similar to the zombies seen in the film28 Days Later.

Your allies may either be controlled by AI or other players. In addition to the common horde, there are 5 special bosses in Left 4 Dead: The fatBoomerwhose vomit attracts infected to attack the unlucky victim; TheSmoker who will strangle and suffocate his prey with his long tongue; TheHunter, who pounces and mauls on anyone unlucky enough to get in the way; The juggernaut likeTank; and theWitch, who appears to be defenseless, when in actuality should be avoided since she can kill players very quick.

The game is split up into four "movies" which are basically scenarios. Each "movie" contains 5 maps that players progress through until the finale. The total map count in Left 4 Dead is 20 (not including remixes for the versus mode).

The game is currently known to have two modes. One is a traditional co-op mode, where four players take over the role of the survivors and try to get from point A to point B alive. The other mode is pretty much the same deal; however four more players may take over the roles of the boss infected (Excluding the Witch) and prevent the Humans from reaching safety. Versus mode is for veterans, since the AI allows the Human Boss infected to spawn quicker than the AI Bosses in the traditional co-op mode.

WHY SHOULD I CARE?

THE AI DIRECTOR

The driving force in Left 4 Dead is referred to as the AI Director. The Director's influence is felt everywhere. Primarily it controls where and how many zombies spawn. It will react to how players are progressing through a map. If a team is doing well and cooperating; they can expect a much more dramatic experience meaning more infected attacking, and payoffs. If the team is doing bad (Shooting each other, or constantly getting hurt), then the game will be more forgiving. This does not mean Left 4 Dead is an easy game, if players expect to beat a map, they must work as a team. The director also has an influence over ammo placements outside of saferooms and is able to set the tone of the game by amplifying and changing the background music and post process effects. The main goal of the director is to adjust the pace of the game to create hills and valleys; resulting in moments of quiet suspense followed by adrenaline pounding action.

COOP EXPERIENCE

The game features Drop -In/Drop-Out support, meaning that if you start up a game by yourself, players can hop in and take control of an ai controlled survivor immediately. Likewise they can leave the game, and the ai will resume control.

Team work is vital to success in Left 4 Dead. Aside from the fact that more survivors means more guns shooting infected, there are situations in the game where the players must cooperate to save someone in jeopardy. Once a player reaches zero health in left 4 Dead, they fall to the floor. While on the floor, Players are unable to move, but they can still fire their weapons in a prone like position. These downed players only have a certain amount of time before they bleed out and die, but if another survivor comes and picks them up; they can continue to play. A player may only fall down three times, after that they die the next time they hit zero (Unless they use a health pack after being helped back up).

While the characters themselves possess no abilities that set them apart, the weapon load out that each team chooses will serve to give them specialty roles. The hunting rifle is useful to take down infected at a distance and is more suited for rural, open maps. Likewise, the hunting rifle is not the best choice in enclosed spaces, such as the hospital scenario. Every survivor is able to carry just one medkit at any given time, which may be used on themselves or their friends.

To encourage good sportsmanship, the game's ai monitors everyone's actions, and at each saferoom/check point, the game displays various stats. Such examples are who shot the most infected, killed the most infected, and healed the most teammates. On the other hand, the game will also display who did the most friendly fire damage (Friendly Fire is ALWAYS on) or shoots a boomer near teammates. These stats are permanent like TF2, and players will easily be able to view these stats and see who is worth teaming up with or not. While in game, there is a voting system that is able to kick players out, and even block them from using explosive weapons like the pipe bomb if they are incapable of using it properly.

Boss infected all have special moves that either will kill a player or disable them unless their teammates help them out. The Hunter pounces on people, pinning them to the ground. The Smoker will strangle a victim with his tongue and can pull them away from the group. Either of these two attacks can be interrupted if a player melees the boss, or shoots them. A survivor is covered in bile and their vision is blurred when a boomer either vomits on them or explodes in their vicinity, attracting infected to that survivor: leaving his teammates to protect him. And the Tank is able to easily kill survivors, able to toss chunks of debris, but if a team keeps their cool and focus, no one will die. The Witch, the only unplayable infected boss, can be heard crying from a distance. The Witch is usually laying down, and players must be careful not to aggravate her, or else she will get up and attack the nearest player. Depending on difficulty, this could mean a one hit kill. Getting too close, shining light on her, or firing near her is known to provoke her.

General Info

- The survivors areBill-The Veteran,Francis-The Biker,Zoey-The Girl, andLouis-The Black Guy.

- Except for the finale, each map has a saferoom. The saferoom is easily visible as a reinforced red door. Once everyone is inside the saferoom, and the door is shut, the game will display your stats for the round while the next map loads. Inside are additional weapons, ammo, and medkits. Any teammates who died, will be respawned here for the next map.

- If the door to the saferoom is not closed fast enough it is possible for infected to get in. Be sure everyone is ready to enter when the door is opened.

- Left 4 Dead will feature over 8,000 lines of dialogue

- The back story will be fleshed out through Graffiti covered walls; and receive regular updates and downloadable content

- Designer's Commentary mode allows gamers to go "behind the scenes" of the game

- As of now, there is no official minimum requirements for the PC, however it's been stated they will be similar to Orange Box Specs.

- Pipebombs are modified to make noise and attract infected towards them when they are thrown.

- A demo is confirmed to release on both platforms before the release date.

Why buy it over far cry 2? At least when I see Resistance 2 it looks like a decent to good fps game and at least it offers something some what unique with a 60 man online play. With Left 4 dead I don't see anything and the graphics look terrible.

Like I said why not buy a better fps game come this fall or if your looking for survival horror wait for the sure thing with RE5 which I think comes out spring but not sure.

I've seen some videos of the gameplay and it looks like **** for an fps game. I think the game is an easy flop to call and thats what I'm expecting. I don't understand why its listed by some as a great exclusive because I don't think its much of an exclusive for any console based off of what I've seen. The gameplay is incredible in Left 4 Dead and the action is intense. A lot of the action takes place in the dark, so you never know when or where a zombie will attack you from. Just above every journalist who have seen and played it has said the game will not be a Flop.

oh plz...their is nothing new about either Resistance 2 or Far Cry 2.

Left 4 Dead on the other hand is unique just for the way it procedurally generates levels, as well as combines Coop gameplay as well as competative play.

I got lots of games on the pc. I kinda think pc is the best due to the easy access of games with MAME, Snes9x, etc...... You can't beat it. Although I do my online gaming on the ps3 because its free and it still has great online games and good games in general. I don't have 360 becasue I mainly didn't want to pay for online for the next 5 or 6 years and find myself paying for more and it could be more than that because I don't think I'm gonna buy a next gen console right off the bat becasue they will probably cost too much and I'm just gonna wait for the price drop since I will have online play anyway to keep me busy. So I could be paying for online for the next 7 to 8 year at $50 per a year or I could pay $100 more for a console and never pay for online again as long as I play with that console.

Speaking of pc you don't even gotta use dics for games its great. I only ask for more easy access to more recently released games liks ps1 games etc......

You see thats how little you know about it :S , the difficulty doesnt allow for you to split up much, you will get owned. Why would you kill your teamates in a team base game? dont tell me your one of those retarded Team Griefers? therse no challenge in that, just window licking retardism. :P Team Kill is epic fail.

Why do you have to help your teammates? I would play as any man for themselves. I like a challenge. I would even try killing some of my teammates.

You see thats how little you know about it :S , the difficulty doesnt allow for you to split up much, you will get owned. Why would you kill your teamates in a team base game? dont tell me your one of those retarded Team Griefers? therse no challenge in that, just window licking retardism. :P Team Kill is epic fail.

I told you I like a challenge and I like to take some things on alone. I wouldn't bother dragging a teammate I would just put him out of his misery by shooting him. I would like to try to take on the game alone. I just think the whole team thing is a wuss thing. Kind of like in COD4 when I play through the single player I like to be the first one in alone doing the rambo thing. Although in online play it doesn't work as well but I still get the job done alone most the time without my teammates due to tricking the enemy and being a good sniper. I like taking on the enemy alone sometimes online.

If you are'nt excited about Left4Dead you should have your licence to game revoked. For me personally this has the potential to be one of those all time great games.

Zombies, check

lots of zombies? check

Online 4 player co-op? check

Valve? check and mate

One day the game will be handed over to some dev to make a port for the ps3 and if they do I will play it again because I like my ps3, but Resistance? Resistance in the same sentence with Left4Dead? It will be a cool shooter but get real!

Also, Crysis is the spiritual and true sequel to Far Cry. If you have never played the real FC and just those console ports you would know what that meant.

no imo. i played tf2 on 360 just yesterday and it looks last gen and was very laggy, it was Live being sucky or the game, either way it sure is nothing impressive graphic wise.

TF2 looks great on both systems I have seen it run on, the 360 and PC. I don't think you know what you are talking about, how old were youlast gen?
