The way its talked about here I thought it would have like over 10 million users, and so far I havent seen more than 5 millioin players, and I check often. Im not saying its bad, but I still believe Xbox Live is better with over 17 million...not sure on the real number so I could be wrong.

Xbox live has never had 17 million people online at one time. It peaked at 1.5 in December. Steam gets 1.8 every weekend. In terms of total registeredusers, Steam has live's 17 million beat with 20 million.

Some advantages are:

- Automatic updates

- No physical media to lose or damage

- Can download to any PC, as the games are tied to the account

- Convenience (Just pay and download)

- Community tools (Friends list, IM/Voice Chat, running IM at same time as gaming)

That and comparing a optional software toa mandatory one is a little silly. You need Live to play online for Xbox, but you don't need Steam to pay online.

Check my post on the first page for advantages of Steam. Plus it's a huge direct download service, which is great for me, when I don't want to drive 20 mins to the store.

Probably some of the best deals you will ever see. You won't get anything like it at an actual store.

Personally, I dont really like Steam. I always seem to be having problems with it, it's slow, crashes occasionally while playing a game, and I've been getting error codes lately that's preventing me from playing the games I've PAID for....so yeah, I still prefer actually having the physical media.

^^^ What they said and on top of that steam hasweekend sales, I think 2 weeks ago there was a sale on selected Ubisoft products for around 19.99 if my memory serves me correct. Thats the beauty with Steam its free and great offers.

I like Steam because it has some of my favorite games (Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead). It also has most of id Sofware's games (which I love and also have). As far as othter games are concerned, I'd rather have physical copies of them (except for Securom games).

I hate the fact that Steam literally has no customer support. That whole lame ticket system is just a sad excuse for the people at Valve to avoid any direct communication with their customers. I'm supprised nobody has sued them about that yet if it's even possible. I would sure be happy if it was.

u need steam to play games on. u go online there are all of ur friends, games.

it is a great thing to have. u don't need a CD to put in, there friends list, group chat, voice chat with the group, updates automatically, it keeps tracks of stats, game addons, great deals i bought world of goo for $5, unreal tournment was free weekend the other day, a web browser in the games, save games onto CD's- if u were going to like a friends that doesn't have internet install via CD, things that xbox live can do.

The number one inconvenience with steam is that you have no control over the games. Anytime you want to play something you got from steam, steam must be on. This goes for demos also. It's very annoying.

Some advantages are:

- Automatic updates

- No physical media to lose or damage

- Can download to any PC, as the games are tied to the account

- Convenience (Just pay and download)

- Community tools (Friends list, IM/Voice Chat, running IM at same time as gaming)

lundy86_4
Add in the built in mod support and indie development support. Ahhhh, gotta love Steam.

You get shafted if you buy Steam games at launch. Just wait a month and they'll be in bulk release packages for like $5

Steam is awesome, if you have a good internet connection. I tend to travel a lot so I still prefer to get my games in hard format, but when Im in the US for extended periods, steam is really great. I hear rumors though that some US ISPs wanna put download caps....if thats the case, then I might stop using steam :(

Steam is awesome. Its easy to use, i havnt had any issues with it in 4 years, you can download/buy brand new full games, tons of mod support, great community, tracks the time you have played on each game,etc...

Why? Its already tough enough waiting for worthwhile PC games to come out...
