What is this plenty??? I really want to know. Its no secret I prefer Playstation

Yeah. that was rather obvious. To answer your question. Here, in list form: 1. Cross Game Chat. 2. In Game sign-in. 3. Cross Game invites. Basically overall much better access to interact with your friend's list while in a game. 4. Much better lay out and structure across NXE and XBL. The organization makes navigation much easier on XBL. 5. Download servers are by and far superior to PSN's. This goes for downloading demos OR game updates. PSN's servers are SLOW. 6. Demos can instantly be played, while on PSN they first must be INSTALLED. Which for games like R&C can take SEVERAL minutes. 7. An overall feel of better integration between The 360 and NXE/XBL. Whereas XMB/PSN feels highly tacked on in areas and not well implemented. I think that covers just about every feature.

Quick question guys, if you know your friend in person, why not just hit them up by phone. If you don't know them in person, why would you want to speak to a complete stranger while you're playing a different game then them. It makes no sense to me, cross game chat is a distraction if you ask me. I was playing Facebreaker on my 360 and my other friends were playing Halo 3, I was getting my ass kicked because I was doing small talk with them.

iKINGBOBi
Why would I want to use my minutes when I already have a service integrated to allow me to communicate with people through my console? Cross game chat is more than just talking while playing two different games. My friend could be playing borderlands, send me an invite while I'm navigating the XBL store, or customizing my avatar or check my messages, I could then accept the party invite, start chatting with him while I'm finishing up what I'm doing, then go to the "Party" screen which shows what each of your friends in the party is doing, and then JUMP INTO the game of Borderlands that he's playing, all the while never stop talking to him. Also, because the 360 ships with a headset, almost everyone on XBL uses it while playing MP, so I make new friends all the time that I necessarily wouldn't want to give my telephone number too, but are fun people to joke around with while playing games on my 360.

Haha, Don't even bother with these guys man. Yeah just call them on the phone and sit there and talk with them for hours. What if someone wants to use the phone well there on it. Or if it is a cell phone, either you got a good plan or it's the weekend if you can talk for a long time without having to pay money for it.

Not to mention, in XBL there is such thing as PARTY CHAT, so up to 8 people can talk to eachother, imagine how much that would cost on the phone lol.

I think people that say cross game chat is useless, either have no friends, or like to be lonely. Or just mad the PS3 doesn't have it.

Like he said, why would you waste minutes/ busy up the phone when you can prefectly talk to your friends on XBL? I did that today playing BFBC while my friend was playing Borderlands, we were just talking about stuff. It's called keeping in touch with friends. BTW, KingBoi, what's your GT? We'll play something online just so you could see how good XBL is compared to PSN

You mean it's my opinion that XBL servers are faster than PSN's? Man. Just admit that PSN doesn't equal XBL and move on. Even if they're "miniscule" like you say, Hey guess what. 8.5 > 8.2.

I have personally not used Cross Game Chat once..ok maybe once....its a nice feature I guess...but honestly if I'm gaming I'm not looking for a talk buddy. I'll send text messages every now and then, but I see no point in talking. But I like XBL more because its a lot easier to use..at least from my experience.

Free has nothing to do with it when we're considering OVERALL feature set, and quality of service and discussing WHICH is better. Heck that's like saying I could get a McDonald's hamburger or a steak. One's cheaper than the other but there's a REASON people still buy steaks.

By your logic, PS3 is completely superior to 360 because of the features. I feel PS3 is better than 360 but some don't feel that way because they say they don't need the extra features PS3 has. Also, your so critical of XBL but you only played today and on the 2nd and before that. hadn't played since march 9th 2009.

There is only a little little difference between PSN and Xbox live. Xbox live has cross game chat and cross game invites oh and custom soundtracks.. Other than that, they are identical. Once PS3 gets these features it will be exactly on par with Xbox live.. the whole argument about Xbox live being better held true in 2007, not today.

If blu-ray was clearly superior than the PS3 would be. However, blu-ray has slower read speeds than DVD9, which has caused mandatory installs or in the case of KZ2, times when the game COMPLETELY FREEZES to have to load in textures. If you want to discuss PS3 vs. 360, make a thread, now all you're trying to do is DEFLECT attention away from the fact that I've PROVIDED you the answer to your question MULTIPLE times already, and you just to stick your fingers in your ears and say "la la la la". XBL is superior to PSN. Move On.

Steam and Xfire both destroy xbox live and guess what their free. I played on PSN before it was an excellent service for what I buy a console for: PLAYING GAMES, and its free. Also xbox live is not friendly for those who play 360 games casually, I play bad company on a casual basis and every time I want to play online I have to buy a new subscription. 360 owners dont realize their getting ripped off, sure its only 5$ a month but that 5$ is an unnecessary fee.

In-game music for all games, cross-game voice chat, and more features integrated to the bare-bones online play. If there's one thing Sony doesn't do a good job of is supporting it's community. I don't think anyone ever asked for photo gallery applications, fading menus, or dynamic themes that they charge $3 for.

Umm, you don't need XBL for custom soundtracks, you can do that offline too. What your saying COULD be true if MS stopped updating XBL but we both know that's not gonna happen so MS will keep introducing new stuff to increase the XBL features while Sony plays keep up

Unnecessary? So you mean it doesn't cost Microsoft any money at all to have all those demos hosted on FAST servers? All the game updates and DLC? It doesn't cost them ANY money to have a network set up to be able to handle voice chat by hundreds of thousands of people at the same time when using cross game chat / party chat? If this were the case, then why is it that Sony has announced that PSN will soon start offering a subscription service?

Unnecessary? So you mean it doesn't cost Microsoft any money at all to have all those demos hosted on FAST servers? All the game updates and DLC? It doesn't cost them ANY money to have a network set up to be able to handle voice chat by hundreds of thousands of people at the same time when using cross game chat / party chat? If this were the case, then why is it that Sony has announced that PSN will soon start offering a subscription service?

Steam provides all this for free, I can download games at 1mb/s while downloads on 360 are nowhere as close. Steam also updates my games automatically I dont need to even load up the game, it also hosts DLC downloads. Cross game chat is also there. It seems you enjoy shelling out money without even knowing your getting jipped. Also the ps3 premium service is for people who want those unique features xbox live has such as faster downloads. It doesnt make you buy a 50$ gold service just to play the game you already paid for online using the internet connection you already purchased.

Owned. Guess Valve has more money than M$ considering Steam can be done for free :P

The response to yours will be this is about PSN Vs Live, completely ignoring the fact that you pointed out the features that make Live so much better are being done for free through another service and much smaller company, completely destroying any argument justifying getting wallet raped by M$ :D

As a previous live user one of the things i hated was knowing that i was paying to play online when i could've just bought the game on PS3 and be playing for free, hence why i no longer use Live.

i use both XBL and PSN and even though online play is free on the ps3; everything on the ps3 felt tacked on. ps3 fanboys wonder what is so great about cross chat and cross invites and even when explained they will STILL wonder what's the big deal. you can put on your 360 and within mins get into a conversation with afew of your friends on party chat.

once you've experienced how easy things are on XBL you will wish sony will follow suit and add all of these features.

But if im not interested in chatting, what does Live offer in terms of gaming online that makes me want to pay for it? The only thing i wish would be that M$ make silver accounts free to play online and make gold have all these pointless features.

Socialising doesnt count when its on a console :P

This

Leave all those "additional" features for gold accounts, let silver owners play their damn games online, which they bought already. It would still fail in comparison to Steam and Xfire as smaller companies can provide this service for free.

If you don't want those features (which are far from being pointless) than you should just stick with PSN. Unless you actually try gold you will never know how clunky PSN actually is.

If you can't afford 50 dollars for an entire year, you probably shouldn't be playing video games too much.

Or get it on PC where all this stuff is free.

Your response still doesnt explain why silver can't play games online, in fact silver really cant do anything. Let gold be reserved for those who want those "features". I played on all 3 platforms and PC was the best by far, ps3 is good for what you want a console to do PLAY GAMES, and 360 dead last because it has the nerve to charge you for games you already bought.

Its not that people cannot afford $50, its just that we have to pay for something when we could have gotten it for free.

  • What I like so much about Xbox Live:

- The interface

- Easy access to Friend's List, Music List, and Marketplace

- Meeting new people online, quick access to gamertags/bios( which I use for mute/blocking of annoying gamers)

- The dashboard/XMB are all catered for games, making the XBL remind me that it's a gaming system first and foremost, everything else is extra

  • What I dislike:

- I miss the blades

^thats it.

You don't think you're paying for steam? You purchase your games through them. I'm aware that you do have the possibility of linking previously purchased games into steam, but have never done it myself nor know the entire process. Everyone that I know that uses steam BUYS THE GAMES FROM STEAM. So, oh right, maybe you aren't "paying for the service". . .but Valve still gets money from you. One way, or the other. I honestly can't believe that people are so naive. Nor does it your post even begin to answer my question. Are any of those actions that I described free? No. The business models may be different, but they all require money to run.

That's what happens when i try to sign out.

Racer850

What? You have to access the in-game XMB?

Ok when i'm playing a game, and want to sign out, and sign into another profile, i'm told i need to leave my game to do this.

Are you trying to sign out of your Master Account which has your game data on it or trying to Sign out of PSN, because I'm able to sign out of PSN while being in a game.

Cross platforming communication is available to any game that you preload on your steam shortcut, just go to add non steam game, you dont have to buy from steam. As for auto game updating goes and other full steam support, it is available to any game with steam support u dont have to buy from steam Modern warfare 2 is an example. All PC games now are being supported by steam cause its just that good. Also steam is way cheaper than retail in most countries so everyone uses it anyways. Steam is also better because it has clan and group support which destroys anything on consoles. Please get your facts right before talking about steam.

As for xfire which you ignored, they are completly free and independent and they are 300 times better than xbox live even providing image and video sharing of your game exploits.

Also by your logic the xbox marketplace should cover the costs of xbox live service as players can buy games from it. Then why are people still paying 50$ a year?

I think you're confused about what the point of this thread is. This isn't to argue the MERIT of paying for XBL or not. This thread is discussing if XBL is superior to PSN. Cost doesn't matter at all in this regard. The TC didn't ask "Is XBL so much better that's it worth paying the price difference?" he wanted to know IF XBL was better. Too many times do cows try to make this discussion about XBL being WORTH the money and not whether XBL is superior or not. Whether it's worth it or not, is up for debate to some people. But there is no debate in regards to XBL being superior. Only the most blind of fanboys would try and act as if PSN = XBL.
