What's so great about Zelda?

Could someone please enlighten me? Yes, it is a good franchise but why is Ocarina of Time renowned as the best game ever? I got OoT and well, it wasn't much special, it introduced some new things but it is so repetitive and Nintendo seems to think that as soon as you get into a dungeon the whole entire story stops, dungeons get repetitive and the story isn't anything special in the first place. Horseback riding and bosses are fun, but that's essentially Shadow of the Colossus is. So, why do you love these games so much? The music is great but it is NOT worth such praise.LittleTauren

It's always important to remember that it matters when you played the game for the first time.

If you bought OoT on day one and as a bonus like I did also purchase the memory upgrade for the N64 - many including myself couldn't be pried from the N64 for days at a time because the game for it's time was truly phenom.

These days the franchise needs a system to totally revamp and expand on though sadly IMO the Wii is not the right machine for the job - maybe next gen. me hopes.

well if people in SW had an IQ score of 0 no1 would actually be here because they wouldnt have the mental capacity to understand and use a computer so yes they do, but yea sometimes u wonder how mindless some people in here are

How can you think that a game that was released in Nov. 1998 is essentially a clone of a game that was released in Oct. 2005??? I may not be the smartest guy around but I can tell that you obviously need to relearn how to read a calender. you've got things bass ackwards my friend. If OoT isn't the best game of all time it's very close to the top and that will be the OPINION of most gamers with any love for the classics.

Yeah, I guess you have to just "get it". It's basically its own sub-genre. I don't mind playing the same game every three or four years with different graphics and some variation on light vs. dark, overworld vs. underworld, past vs. future, etc. Every dungeon is incredibly well designed and the core mechanics are always satisfying. If you don't crave block-pushing puzzles, don't worry about it -- it's not for you.

Of course it's "great" now, it got an 8.8 by Gamespot as the Virtual Console version, and that constitutes as "great". It's my favourite game ever, so whatever TC, opinions are to be admired.

i will agree that ff has not been something i am a big fan of ( i might try crisis core though) it was out long before lost odyssey.

it's hard to explain why it's so good, it just is

great gameplay, graphics, music

storylines tend to have a basic framework, but they're still epic

great characters, enemies, bosses

it just has a charm that's hard to describe

No, I said that the best parts of Ocarina of Time are in a more pure and epic form in Shadow of The Collosus, if OoT's supposed to be the best game ever then Shadow of the Collosus is Ocarina of the Time its just you take away all of the wrongs of the pervious games (dungeons, most meaningless things ever. OH! There's an amulet of secret power, but its in a dungeon! Hey, LISTEN go through this dungeon conviniently find a bow and then go fight a big boss at the end so that you can get this part of the triforce and stop Ganon. Go outside to Castle Town, go into another dungeon. Repeat.) Zelda can be PAINFUL at times. I did not make this as a topic to diss the franchise I just wanted someone to tell me why you love it, no, instead all you think skulled imbeciles just take everything like its offensive and instead of using reasoning you just go ahead and take it like I slapped your mother. Zelda can be EPIC, I'm not saying its bad I'm just asking why do you love it so much. 2d Zeldas I have nothing at all against and same with Mario but its seems that when they go into 3d they can be extremely epic and fun but half the time they aren't.

But seriously, there are a ton of different puzzles and lots of different enemies too fight. This game is about as far from repetive a game can get. My only complaint is that its so damn easy...

So the cariation in the dingeons is more repetive then most games?

By your definition of "none-repetive design" what is such a game? I can't think of one.

IE you give rockband a 9.0.. Is there anything you haven't done there after you played it for one hour? Such a game is amoing the most repetive there is, yet its damn fun.

Zelda games are a massive and epic adventure not everyone thinks there amazing but the quality of the games are they are fantastic. Nowadays the series seems to not be as good after Ocarina Of Time.

No it doesn't.
Wind Waker was great, fresh and amazing.
Just because Nintendo served it's fans with Twilight Princess (by making it a lot like OoT) doesn't mean they'll do it again with the next Zelda.

cos it can be a simple game yet complex at the same time. it can be played by casuals who look for a simple game but yet for the harcore fans theres so much that can be done with the side quests and hidden items. sure it doesnt change anything about the game but it was always something good to brag lol.

what i want to know is whats so great about SotC? as it was so boring, all there was its boss fights sure they were cool but thats all the game had, a big world with nothing to do and frame rate problems.

Exploration, Collecting, Epic Battles, Interesting Story and Great ARt Direction.

I couldn't ask for more from the games except maybe have a whole new location for the games and/or time (the future zelda idea seriously could work if done right).

What's so great about Zelda? Fun gameplay, epic boss battles, many secrets, lots of stuff to do, great level/dungeon designs, as you progress you get new items/weapons and it had great graphics for its time. It successfully transitioned from 2D to 3D while keeping everything that's good about the previous games.

It's just a great game. Why do you need people explaining it to you? Go read a review or something.

The 2D Zelda's are big fun...the 3D Zelda's are not so much.rond556

It is something special. Just because on GS it got a 8.8 does not mean most other places it was highly praised and extremely well done.
