i never realy understood why everyone loved the dc. i didnt realy play it much back when they were still making gaem because i did not own one but my frinds did. I also played with it quite a few times after they stopped making games for it and i played recently with it as well. I dont understand why a lot of people make it sound like it was the ggreatest console of all time. The one thing i realy dont like about it is the controler. Its just too big for me and when holding it it feals like there is a missing alaloge stick. I never played a shooter on it i wonder how theywere played. Also i heard fighting games are good on there but the controler feals too big for those and i am not a big fan of fighting games ether. Also for somereason even trough its tecknelly last gen it dontfeal like it when i play with it it feals like its older.

Because it has some of the most awesome games ever made.

Also, it feels "older" because the tech was in the middle (or maybe leaning a bit more towards PS2) of a PS1 and PS2.

It had one of the fastest starts out of the gate of any console I can remember... It was loaded to the gills with very good games within a year of its release - certainly better than any console this gen. Some of them were even quite distinctive - Shenmue comes to mind. So, with that being the case, I think a lot of people remember it quite fondly.

Because it had many great games in it's short life, they were constantly being rolled out one after another. The Dreamcast was a Gamer's console and it delivered a true arcade experience at home while also offering original titles..

* Was the first console to fully embrace online gaming years before it became mainstream. Being more internet capable out of the box then the 360, since it came with a modem (so even if you had no internet at the time you could buy a DC that came with a modem).

* The architecture was also thinking years ahead, it was designed around Windows 2k so it was easy to develope for (hence why it lasted for years after they stopped making them in certain areas).

* Had similar capablities as all systems that gen yet was out before them.

* Software that was introduced with the Dreamcast was unique and quite vast considering its short lifetime.

Either way, it was most likely one of the (or the) most ambitious console because of the thought processors and the ideas (both in hardware and software) that went into it after Sega learned their lessons from the Satern. A bit like what Sony wanted to do with the PS3 and its large starting price even though DC wasn't massive in price, Sega wanted the Dreamcast to be the best console out of the box rather then having the need to buy addons and such for it.

It wasn't the greatest console of all time, but I think what people (your friends) are getting at is that it could have been one of the greatest. Maybe the present would have been different if Sega added DVD.

I agree. I ended up playing it quite a bit (never owned one but signed one out frequently from the video store I worked at) and never thought it deserved the giant nerdgasm that it attracts now.

I think if you look at the time when it was released the games were unlike anything out for other systems and the graphics were far more advanced than the other systems. Couple this with a lot of games released in a very short period of time and it's easy to see why the Dreamcast impressed people who initially owned it.

I bought a Dreamcast and I find that it's overrated. It has decent games, but they can be played on PS2 or Gamecube for the most part. I like the system, but it's not the messiah of gaming as some make it out to be.

i heard mixed thing about that game .

she said he said

I was skeptical too. I bought a dreamcast back in 2005 from a gamestop for 10$ with a controller, memory card and everything, only till this summer did i start getting games for it, so i have no nostalgia based on my reactions to the systems and its games. Shenmue is an absolute masterpiece, what they were able to do with that system in the this game is unbelievable because even today people do not have the ambition to do what this game did. I loved every second of this game, ive already beaten it three times and I got something different and found out something new every time. And thats only 1 game, there are games on that thing that are still incredibly sick to this day, like the arcade perfect ports of some of the best fighting games of all time, jet grind radio one weird awesome game, space channel 5, Imo the second best resident evil Code Veronica, one of my favorite RPGS of all time Skies of Arcadia, The typing of the dead proved that if the pen is mightier than the sword than the Keyboard is mightier than the gun lol, that game is one only sega would do, where you kill zombies By improving your typing skills! and the list goes on about why its still such an awesome system but ill just stop here

The games can be played on the PS2 or Gamecube AFTER the Dreamcast died, and support shifted. That's about the only reason, and even then you still won't find lots of the greats on the other systems.

I'm perfectly aware. I'm coming from the position of looking at the library now as a unique legacy and whether it's worth buying a dreamcast today if you own a PS2 and GC (like I do).

Like? I'd like to know, as I own the system and want more games for it.

Not only did the DC have some outstanding games, (Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure and Shenmue, just to name a few) but it is also the only console in history to launch with an AAAA title.
