Whats so special about the Halo games??

I know that many people here on SW own more than one system so i thought its the best place to ask questions like this, i have never played a halo game before ( only tried it for a couple of minutes a long time ago ).. i know its an FPS.. so far the only FPS i really enjoyed and still do are the call of duty games. no mater how many FPS games i play i always go back to call of duty.. i went to watch some of the videos on the recent release of serise and To be honest it dosent look that intresting to me. i thought it could be more like the Call of duty games with the controls, killstreaks etc, i'v noticed that it has coloful characters and how there is no gravity, i'v also noticed the maps are bigger ( which remind me of MAG ), what makes this game so popular? whats makes it a good game? which is better Call of Duty or Halo?

i want someone who played the game to answer me or any game of series, again i never played it so have no idea whats going on and im very curious.

by the way am i the only one who never played it? :P

Nice, im trying to know why is it halo games are so popular, i understand why CoD games are popular but still not sure why with Halo :P.. anyways thanks for asnwering, might try the new game on the series

Honestly, I like Halo games, but next to Call of Duty, they seem incredibly boring.

Halo Reach is gonna be teh best FPS of 2010.

well halo does have a some religion stuff in the game. I think.

It's more balanced than CoD to start with. You have a ton of MP modes, Forge, great map layouts, split screen co-op and great SP campaigns (with the meta-game feature in H 3). Plus the Halo universe is pretty fleshed out for an FPS.

What, the gameplay is polished, maybe dated. And i doubt you would win against a team of plus 40's.

Jealous haters say it's popular only because of the hype, but the truth is, Halo games are among the best game series ever.

For myself at least, I've always chosen Halo over Call of Duty. Call of Duty is too one dimensional and too much of a no brainer. The campaign is far too linear, Halo has a much more dynamic sand boxed based design.

Halo's controls have always been extremely tight and responsive, when you press a button you know that you will receive an appropriate response not one that is overexagerrated. Killstreaks have also always been in Halo: Double Kill, Triple, Overkill, Killtacular, Killtrocity, Killmanjaro and so on up to 10 Killpocolypse!

Oh, there is still gravity in Halo. There has always been gravity in Halo.

They're fun fast paced shooters with tight controls. They don't do anything revolutionary, but they don't do much wrong. They not overly deep, but the surface is fun.

TC, I can't speak for all, but can tell you why I found it (and still find it) one of the better console FPSes out there. I'm only referring to the original Halo: CE here, as I don't consider its sequels nearly as good. I'm hoping Reach will change that.

Any single element of CE is really nothing noteworthy nor innovative; it's mostly the combination and execution of those elements that create something that is greater than the sum of its parts. It has a story that is more relevant than most other shooters, which is well told and interesting. The vehicles are varied and enjoyable to use. But by far my main admiration for CE stems from the implementation of the weapons. There's a strategy involved in firefights that lends depth to the combat. Every enemy is more or less susceptible to a different gun. Many of them can be taken down with combinations (a charge from the plasma pistol to remove an enemie's shields followed up by a shotgun blast, or a shotgun for the human flood with an assault rifle for the smaller ones, for instance). This aspect is not as noticeable on the easier difficulties, but becomes essential on the higher ones.

It's not THAT deep, but given the fact that you can only carry two weapons at a time, it does lend the game an aspect of strategy and consideration that I haven't found in many other first person shooters, which by nature, are fairly shallow and superficial. Not to mention the combat is just visceral, chaotic, and brutal. Grenades exploding all around during intense battle, with bullet holes and bodies littering the environment afterwards. The marines have their own personality and help immensely with the atmosphere. It has great sound design and an excellent musical score, competent A.I., and for a console, controls that are not only comparable to the mouse/keyboard combo on the PC (a huge accomplishment), but IMO surpass it. To top it off, it's extremely polished and the multiplayer is great. It still impresses me everytime I play it.

Hope that helped give you some idea.

halo CE was decent, then the quality of the games too a dive and look like an inverse function. the pistol was OP and then it got replaced by the BR. people think its balanced? wtf is wrong with you people. people only use the BR, sniper, rocket launcher and MAYBE the AR. halo 3 has over ten weapons and not even half get used. you call that balance?! games like tf2, battlefield 2 and bf2142 are balanced, not CoD and halo. also the map design is pretty poor, with many areas never being visited or that just seem tacked on to make it seem bigger, same with CoD

Nothing is certain man, im a little curious about the game and since my friend will get it i'll play it on his 360, i of course wont buy a new system right away that is if i like it, i'll have to do more playing and testing before i actually do. i tried to rent BFBC2 durng this week but the PS3 version was sold out and already taken on almost all stores so i didnt have a chance to do so :P. hopefully soon. i know many friends that are enjoying it and been telling me about getting it too

Nothing is certain man, im a little curious about the game and since my friend will get it i'll play it on his 360, i of course wont buy a new system right away that is if i like it, i'll have to do more playing and testing before i actually do. i tried to rent BFBC2 durng this week but the PS3 version was sold out and already taken on almost all stores so i didnt have a chance to do so :P. hopefully soon. i know many friends that are enjoying it and been telling me about getting it too

I don't hate Halo, but I do think it's overrated. That video didn't change my opinion at all.
