Here's the thing, these installs only reduce like 3 to 5 seconds of load times, and reduce like 2 to 4 pop ins. I don't think it's worth it at all. I mean sure you could buy a bigger hard drive for cheap but come on only people in these forums will actually do that.

The main draw for video gaming Consoles is that it gave you the convenience that the PC might not. The PS3 might even make console gamers into PC gamers now, since they're getting use to doing the things you could do with a PC with their PS3.

CubanBlunt

Don't get it twisted.

Consoles are STILL, even with installs, more convenient for the masses than PC's. ANY PS3 owner can play ANY PS3 game. No one without HDD. No one without the right graphics card. No one with too slow of a processor. If you own a PS3, you can play the game. End of story.

I think the mandatory part of it is what people dislike. That I agree with.

Thats the thing, if the PS3 didn't have a HDD, then no one can play games with the mandatory installs.

So you can't play the game, not end of story.

Whats your point, without a hard drive you cant get online with Burnout on the 360.

He has no point. He's trying to give ua an "if" that does not and will not ever exist.

You're right, Reverse. IF there were a PS2 without a HDD, it could not install. But there's no such PS3.

My whole is, ALL PS3 games can be played on ANY PS3. Same can't be said for 360. Get it?

Dont tell me I'm a consumer and not Kaz, I'm fully aware. Is installations costing me anything? No. Is it affecting me? No.

carljohnson3456

Both incorrect

You've called the PS3 a crap console so I'm not shocked you're sitting here trying to tell me I shouldnt be happy about it. I'm not happy about it by any means, but I'm not upset about it like you and Reverse would have me beleive I should. You all can speak for the entire PS3 20 GB community but it's not affecting you so why do you care so much? Why does Reverse? Maybe because you're both lemmings?

carljohnson3456

I've called the PS3 a crap console because IMO it is, that doesn't mean i'm a lemming. I can list a bunch of reasons why I think that it is and until something is done to rectify my concerns it will remain a crap console to me. I know this issue does not effect me but that doesn't mean it is not an issue. You're acting like my perfectly valid concerns are irrational while at the same time brushing off the worrying trend of mandatory installs on PS3 games as "no big deal". Yours is the reaction i'd expect from a fanboy, not vice versa

Dont act like I'm blind, I own a 360 too and actually prefer the PS3 because I am a consumer, not Bill Gates. My 360 has died on me twice and like you said, paying for online is ridiculous. Yet I get called a fanboy because the 360 has turned me off for those two reasons. You could have probably even called me a lemming when I first got a 360, because I was all about it. Funny you and Reverse never come in here and complain about the failure rates or (well you for the first time) about Live's fee, but constantly bash the PS3 for stuff like mandatory installs. Go figure that.

carljohnson3456

I often complain about the failure rates and XBox live. They're both a huge deal. But you're acting like the Ps3 has Zero issues. That's why you come off as a fanboy

You are not a fanboy if you prefer the PS3 because of bad experiences with the 360 or a preference for the exclusive franchises it has left (MGS, FF etc). But if you seriously claim that the PS3 has higher quality content and a better range of software then you are

I can only speak on it from my opinion,

My issue is that its annoying, while the common arguement is "just delete the install file when you are done playing the game" is valid, it does not apply to the way I play games. Hot Shots Golf is something that I will go back to for months and pop it in and wack out a few holes while I have some time to kill, so the concept of deleting the install file and then waiting the 18-22 minutes for it to install again remove my ability to just pop it in and play.

In the case of something like DMC3, perhaps I am an odd gamer but if I get stuck or frustrated playing a game I could potentally leave it for weeks or even months before I go back to it,

So in my case its not simply a 20 minute install, finish the game, delete, discard game,

While I do have a 60GB PS3, I now 12 gigs worth on install files on it, (DMC4 and HSG mandatory, MLB 2008: The Show may be as well but I don't recall)

Now I will have MGS4 taking up 4.6GB

http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=187049

And apparently Haze which I want to at least get started before MGS4 requires 4 gigs? Well now we are basically talking 20 gigs for five games, and while that is only 33% of my HD that is all of a launch 20GB owner's and half of a 40GB owners HDD's.

So whats my Beef? The PS3 installation set-up conflicts with the way that I normally play games, and we are only a year and a half in, with these mandatory installs becoming more and more standardized,

I just don't understand how I can have nearly 4x as many 360 games on my launch Pro 360 and still have 12 gigs of free space with tons of save files and theme downlads and the like, yet 33% of my larger and new PS3 HDD will be full even though I have far less games, it was just poor planning on Sony's part.

But in their defense, its nothing new.

PSone required me to have something like six memory cards for my games,

ANd PS2 was around the same mark,

People really are blowing this out of perportion. I have a 60 gig ps3 and play alot of games that use installs and downloaded alot of games onto my ps3 from ps store. Thing is i still have over half of my harddrive. Its not a big deal because if you dont play the game anymore you can simply delete the install and free the space, if you play the game again just reinstall it. It doesnt take long at all. Funny how people blow this thing into some huge case, its not a big deal at all.

First off, I never act like the PS3 has zero issues, I'm acting like this install thing isnt as big 'o deal as everyone acts like. I know the 360 has a better range of software, and that the 360 offers alot of quality games. Gears of War stands out to me as one of my favorite next-gen games. What it boils down to is I prefer my PS3 over the 360. I dont get on here and spew stuff like, "The 360 is crap" or anything like that, heck, even if I completely didnt like the system I wouldnt say that. That to me is fanboyism at it's finest, when one console is entirely "crap" just because it doesnt appeal to you.

I do favor the PS3 based on my experinces with both consoles. If I blindly favored the PS3 without ever even playing the 360 and called the 360 crap, then I would consider myself a fanboy. And for you to get on these forums and preach about installs to me and say I shouldnt be happy with it would be like a PS3 owner telling you that you should be worrying about the RROD even though you've never had... and neither has he for the matter.

You could get online with the 360 without a HDD, all you need is a memory unit with your gamertag. The point is you could still play the game just fine without any installs with the 360, but if the PS3 did not have a HDD, the games with mandatory installs will be crippled. These installs helps the PS3 game, so it can just be on par with the 360 games without installs. Power.

it is just another reason to complain about the PS3. My question is, why would they put in harddrives M$ and Sony if not to be used for installs. Now some may say for music pictures and movies. But I recall when the same people were complaining about the PS3 because it did so many other things besides games like for music movies and pictures.

So if we complain about the harddrive holding movies, music and pictures and now we are complaining because it is being used for game installs, why the heck is it in the system at all?

Either way you look at it someone is going to make up some stupid, dumb, r_tard_d excuse to complain about something else.

I just sit back install a game and play.

Because when people pay $400 + for a console they don't want to have to spend the extra $ on a HDD to play games.
