So, this is one of those few Nintendo series that moves from strength to strength, one of those rare franchises that has seen only three instalments in over a decade. The series is undoubtedly one of the greatest of all time, and one of the deadliest weapons in Nintendo's arsenal. My question to you, System Wars, is, which one of the Super Smash games is your favorite? And why?

Many will say Melee, but I will say Brawl. While I can still have fun with 64, that game hasn't aged well and is now the worst in the series.

I've only played Brawl once or twice and never could get into the control scheme enough to enjoy it, so I'll say Melee even with the disastrous controller I had to play it with (just my opinion, don't be hatin).

The N64 one. Oh the memories of that with Mario Kart and Tony Hawk.

I never really got into these games, hard as I tried. SSBB is the one I played the most, but I don't really know enough to say which is best. I always hear Melee is king, but I haven't played enough to notice a difference.

NOT trying to pull a "this game is kiddy" card on you guys, but I really only play Brawl when my little sisters want to play... and then we just button mash away for about an hour. :P

I own all of them, and bought them all at launch, so it's not like I didn't live through the era's at their peak.

IMO, The N64 version is a wash, it wasn't that great then for me (especially for a arcade trained Fighting game fanatic), and it obviously aged poorly. I liked the commercial though, it was quite good.

However, it's a tight race between Melee and Brawl for me, but in the end I have to go with PLAYTIME, and I put more playtime into Melee, so that's how I chose the winner. :P I get the most out of these games when family comes over for the holidays, and it's one of those games that fun for the whole family. :)

You don't have to use that "kiddly card", we all should know that the Smash games (as well as most of Nintendo's catalog 1st party games) does play quite well for, um, all ages. :P

Other games by other developers... not so much. :P

I like to think of it this way, at least you have another game you can play to bond with your little sisters. :P I share in that family concept, especially for this game...and when the family isn't around, I can break out my other playthings. :P

Absolutely. The game is a blast when we get to playing. I don't have to play all serious and attentive like with other fighting games and my little sisters can have fun and actually win without me having to go easy on em. There is a certain randomness to the game that leads to some fun moments for everyone.

Melee. It's a great improvement over the first. As for Brawl, I could go into a long list of things, floatiness being one, but I'll just leave it at tripping.. Seriously man, it's so stupid.

Melee. If you play Melee and Brawl back to back, the fighting system in Brawl just feels wrong. Melee was near perfect, imo.

The original was my favorite but putting aside nostalgia, Melee, hands down. It added alot to the gameplay, tons of new modes, characters, weapons. Brawl mostly just stuck to what Melee had while noobing it up a bit and putting in a pretty stupid story mode. Online was a nice idea but no voice chat in 2008? Really? Pretty laggy too.

The original. It was the only one that made me want to go to a friend's place just to play it since I don't own a N64/GC/Wii.

Brawl for me, you just had so much to do in the game and I played countless hours of Brawl with my friends so it's definitely my favourite.

Things can be alot easier when someone is right on key with you. I'll go with this. That said, brawl aint bad, but I'd take melee any day over it.

Agh, this is a hard choice. I'd say Brawl, because of Final Smashes, the new stages, the ability to mod, and IKE. The only thing I hate about Brawl is how Link and Captain Falcon were nerfed to heck,,,

Melee was the closest the SSB series has gotten to perfection, everything was done nearly right, imo. Brawl was great, the singpleayer was really good compared to the generic ones of the past. But the actual gameplay couldn't beat Melee. although i do like the characters in Brawl much, much better.

Couldn't agree with you more. Melee -> Brawl is kinda the same as what the did to Mariokart Double Dash -> Mariokart, they improved it and added in part, but they also took away some parts and overall dumbed it down. In the end Brawl just didn't have the same competitive appeal that melee had for us.

I would also have to completly agree with you, except for the last part, I was devastated when they didn't put Roy in Brawl :P

2. Melee
3. Brawl

Seriously, Captain Falcon's voice is enough proof that the original will always be the best. 8)

Brawl is technically better in most aspects, but the levels of Melee are still better and it was far better for its time IMO.

Brawl was equally fun as the rest of them at their time but with much more content and better music and basically, better everything.

I don't think I can answer this question. My favorite is whichever one I'm playing. I love them all.
