Whats the best sword based third person action game you played?

so friends whats the best game third person action games you played featuring sword be it historical or fantasy or medieval. like Witcher, Assaasssins creed, prince of persia, Ghost of tshsima etc

well I go with

Prince of persia sands of time. It's not only the best and only good game in the POP series but the best sword-based action game ever made. I played Witcher, ghost of Tshusima (its just ok), AC games (they are bad) but none of them stand out compare to POP.

the platforming, the level design, combat that was not one button like batman/AC, pretty good story.

Would probably go with Ninja Gaiden Black myself. Ninja Gaiden II was flawed but also incredibly fun as well.

I imagine I'm going to get some flack for my picks since they're not Japanese games and apparently those have the best melee combat mechanics (I guess?...), but:

• The Witcher 3 was a lot of fun. Throwing in alchemy and/or magic with your sword combat while fighting monsters was very cool.
• Warhammer: Darktide has some really fun melee combat, a lot of it with swords. Bonus points for being first-person melee, something I've enjoyed since the Chronicles of Riddick: EFBB days.
• Kingdom Come: Deliverance had "realistic/historical" sword combat. It was cumbersome initially but eventually you sort of grew to appreciate it.
• Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord has some fun melee combat.

*Oh I just realized you said third-person. My bad.

For me, it's Ghost of Tsushima's Katana's Sword used by Samurais and Ronins alike. Slicing and Dicing using the Katana's always feels so satisfying.

I’m not sure if this counts, but Champions of Norath on ps2 was awesome back in the day.

Can it apply to isometric games??

Just based on combat mechanics? Probably have to go with Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge. The combat is so deep, visceral and immensely satisfying to me. As an overall game? Probably Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma or Sigma 2.

Sword based as melee combat, or using just the sword? If we're talking just about the melee, its Charge Blade in MH Rise. As for sword exclusively, no idea. Actually probably the greatsword in MHW.

For me it would be

• Ghost of Tsushima
• Nioh series
• Yakuza Isshin and Kenzan
• Way of the Samurai
• Monster Hunter
• Sakuna of Rice and Ruin

There are more, but these are the ones that comes up to my mind

think of movies like lords of the ring, gladiator, pirates etc.

I'd agree with Sands of Time as it is one of my favorite games, but that's mostly due to the platforming. There are other games with better sword combat, even if I don't like the game as much overall. Ninja Gaiden Black would probably be the best in that regard.

Though it we can count action games with many weapons, one of which is a sword, I'll say Bayonetta.

Honorable mention to LotR: Return of the King. Lots of fun, but a bit too loose to be the best.

Incredibly surprised you didn't mention the energy sword in Halo.

Ninja Gaiden Black. It had excellent combat, boss fights, storyline, characters and graphics (for its time).

I'm surprised that you're surprised he's always been a fan of Sekiro as well as I am. Energy Sword in Halo has always been shit after Halo 2.

What? The worst part of the game was its combat system, and that's not just my opinion, but the opinion of most who've played the game.

I'm a sucker for From Software's brand of melee combat, and prefer the Souls/Elden Ring style to what they did with Sekiro and Bloodborne.

I'm probably in the minority in thinking that Dark Souls 3 is still their best work so i'll go with that one. i'll admit it started feeling a bit stale in Elden Ring though.

Also shoutout to the swordplay in Chivalry 2. You can play it in third person, but I much prefer the first-person view. that might be my favourite melee combat system around since its so organic and intuitive, and has an incredible sense of weight/impact.

generally not an fan of games where you need to hit a bunch of buttons to perform a specific move/combo. i'd rather be more reactionary than memorizing button combos and trying to execute them. I guess I got into Monster Hunter World, that'd be the exception.

Elden ring. But I'm guessing that's a little too complex for the TC.

Dark souls, not just for the basic mechanics but making a whole bunch of different combat styles mesh into one game and it not feel disjointed.

Metal gear rising revengence is the best sword gameplay and nothing else is even close.

And still just an opinion... But seriously, you attack then move, rinse and repeat. What else do you want?

Animations feel floaty as hell. Zero sense of impact on no matter what melee weapon you use.

And it really is not my opinion. Ask anyone what was their main gripe with the game, and the majority will mention the combat system.
