(unless gettin paid a lot)

because if you buy games new, you are not only getting a game and giving your money away....you're supporting that company that you are buying the games from.

while buying a game that's NOT new you're only supporting the store.

When you buy used the developer does not see any of the money. I buy games new so that I can look forward to playing new games.

fair enough- but if thats the logic then why not just send them a donation and use it as a tax right off? heh- i'm not saying its wrong or financially unwise to buy games new- just saying that they drop in price drastically- more so than many movies and cd's... i was just in gamestop and they had tons of PS2 games for 9.99 that originally went for 50+ ... pretty insane.

So I can get it instantly and because PC has none of this used stuff. But mostly because I can get it instantly only through buying new since we have no rental service down here as yet.

mild incentive that somehow, someway, you are supporting the developer of the game you are purchasing.

And guaranteed a fresh copy, which is often amuch better feeling. imo.

I don't see a problem in buying it used if there's a signficant difference in price. I can see it being a problem if it was only the difference between $55 and $60, since you might as well just spend the five dollars. Sometimes used games are much cheaper, though.

I still play my PS2 as well and if I hear a lot of praise for a game that I missed I will go back and get it. In that case I'm pretty much forced to buy it used since finding it new it probably more than $50.

If I'm really anticipating a game I will buy it in the first few days of release but I always end up missing some games. I got a really good deal on Assassin's Creed 2. Amazon had it for $30 new so I couldn't pass it up

When it's used, it has the potential to have damage to the disc, etc, and I don't want to worry about functionality, so I buy it new.

I think the main reason is to support the developers. But I rarely buy new games - only certain ones. I usually buy used games from $10-25.

Well, with games like Mass Effect and Saboteur and others, it gives two benefits: one, you're supporting the devs instead of some store, and two, they've given us good reasons to get a game brand new with unlock codes that end up as paid DLC likewise :D.

I find a lot of pre-owned games are in bad condition with scratches and even missing manuals. I bought a copy of Killzone 2 a day or two ago and the manual was missing and there were a few scratches on the disc. Another time I always bought a game and the manual was folded and this may not matter to other people however I like my game discs and manuals in mint conditon. However, I find that if I buy pre-owned games that are very close to the release date, it will most likely be in good condition as well.

Amazon is the reason for buying games new. They are usually cheaper than MSRP (mostly just a few bucks, but still), no tax in most cases, free shipping, and they give awesome pre-order deals. You'll get in-game bonuses and in some cases money off your next purchase. It's actually beneficial to buy games new when they first release. At least from Amazon.

I prefer to have my profile or start a brand new game, than having to erase someone else's stuff. Now if someone has the courtesy to remove his/her files from the game before bringing it in, thats nice too. But you don't find that very often sadly.

I buy new because I like to support the developers who poured their heart, soul, talent, and time into making a product that will give me many hours of enjoyment. Being a programmer myself I can appreciate the fact that developers need to earn an income and even earn a bonus if the work put in justifies it. If you like a certain developer's games, then what better way to support them by buying new so they can continue making games that you'll enjoy in the future? I believe the used game market is responsible for really short changing some great developers who do deserve to get more then what they're currently getting.

If I only bought games new my collection would only be a third the size it is now. Games are too expensive and I think Wii games should be £25 max, not £38. I'd rather support my own wallet not some fat cat publisher.

Its not like games are going to stop being made if a lot of money conscious consumers spend their money wisely.

I can afford it so I'll buy the games new. It's hard for me to wait for games like Final Fantasy XIII to go down in price. I've been anticipating games like that for a long time, and waiting months to a year for a price drop just isn't going to happen. Plus, like everyone has been saying, I like supporting the developers.

As much as I love Nintendo, they make enough profit as it is so I don't really care if they make an extra $10-$20 when I buy the game new.

But I see your point about supporting favorite Developers and I agree but it won't make much of a difference to the Developer if it's a few bucks less.

Because value is relative to the consumer. In my case, there are games I'd be happy to pay full price for to play at release instead of waiting 5 or 6 months to play. But I don't buy a game new unless I'm sure I will enjoy the game and I'm sure that its a company I want to support.

Because if somebody doesn't buy the game new, the developers won't be around to make new games anymore.I can't even believe this is even a question.

Also, there will be no used games to buy.

Lol trust me, if the price drops to even $30 people will buy it and the developers will still make money. I buy maybe 3-5 brand new games a year. 99% of games are not worth $59.99. Everyone says they don't want to support gamestop but there is a wondeful site called Gamefly where you can get games for next to nothing if you are a member. I just got 6 games all released within the last 4 months to 1 year for $47 shipped. The price at gamestop was $98. That pays for my membership for months, Gamefly used games are always in top notch condition when you buy from them and the cases are BRAND NEW. That means you get all the DLC inserts with them and they are in perfect shape with the manual and everything else. If you play a game now or in 3 months or in 3 years it's the exact same game only a lot less money. People that buy new games that they aren't 100% sure of are more times than not are throwing their money away, wheather they feel like admiting it or not.

I usually don't buy games until they dropped considerably in price. Examples are Bioshock/Oblivion for $20, Crysis/Warhead/Wars for $40, and DCS: Black Shark for $20. I mean they're shrinkwrapped and never been used. Are they still considered new?

O right. I thought he meant he waits a few months for prices to drop.
