Why can't they actually make a *normal* console?

RickTophen

Why in God's name would we want that? What is the point of three consoles all trying to be PCs? If only Sony and MS would follow Nintendo's example.

The last "normal" console they made bombed. So yeah, they decided to expand their market when it was clear they couldn't directly compete.

Yeah, but N64 was so good!

The N64 was fueled by a healthy selection of 3rd party titles as well as 1st party. The gamecube had excellent games, but not enough of them and it didn't keep up with the changing standards. The Gamecube had pitiful online support, didn't use DVDs for movie playback (which is part of the reason the PS2 did so well), and wasn't catching the trend of action games and shooters like the PS2 and Xbox were. A lot of multiplats were never being made for the Gamecube and the library really suffered for it.

Nintendo couldn't keep up and couldn't deal with having another major player. They decided to expand the market instead of risking another Gamecube. It worked for them, now they are setting the tempo.

I guess, too bad though. N64 was the best.

[QUOTE="Spartan070"]Inventory management on a touch screen > hot keys on a keyboard. Wii-U controller FTWSpartan070

That dephends really, on some PC games I need to manage over 30 items, which I dont think will be easy to do on a wii-u controller.

30 items all hot-keyed? Wow, that seems like some crazy overkill. :o

Various types of explosives, weapons, potions, elixirs, armor pieces, ammo types, and such.

Some older mmos were a pain, in TBC, my druid usually carried around like 3 armor sets or so, which was as tedious as it sounds. Not to mention potions, elixirs, flasks and engineering items.

But for managing smaller inventories, I feel that the Wii-U could possibly beat the PC.

First the motion controller and now this tablet controller. Why can't they actually make a *normal* console? How well do you think this console will do sales wise?

RickTophen

All I know is that with the Analog/circle pads above the buttons this thing is going to suck for FPS games.

I completely agree with this. They even tried with things like voice acting in Sunshine, "westernize" Metroid with prime etc. within their own main franchises.

When looking back, I finally understand why I didn't care for the GC/PS2/Xbox home console gen as well as the HD twins, but I have fallen in love again with home console gaming with the Wii.

It really felt like Nintendo was clueless with the GC software in regards to direction of their games. They tried to satisfy the "hardcore" while still keeping the "Nintendo" feeling. They had an idendity crisis then but with DS and Wii, they redefined themselves into the perfect realization of the term modern Nintendo.

I literally rolled my eyes when they announced this tablet at e3. I guess it was because I was enjoying the HD consoles so much that I wanted something similar with Nintendo characters. After the initial dissapointment I thought the Wii-u could be fun still with all the HD bells and whistles. Having both worlds wouldnt be too bad.

BlbecekBobecek

It will print money just like all their recent consoles (DS, Wii, 3DS) did. Also your fantasy is really lacking if you consider this controller a gimmick.

3DS prints money????? They are still selling at a loss and barely making just enough profit back from some software.
