Video gaming has never been as good as it is now, and it keeps getting better. We can even play most of the vintage games in addition to the new ones. There is a console and several games for every type of gamer. In the old days we used to have to put a quarter in the machine every time we played when minimum wage was $3.25/hour.

Well golly, aren't I glad I don't label myself as a "gamer" anymore (since 2014 to be exact). Also, there's no such thing as perfection in a video game and if that's what game developers are trying to accomplish then they're doing it wrong. It's nonsense and it's precisely the same reason why I refuse to give any game a "10/10" because no game is perfect.

If anything, the most I miss about games is unlocking stuff for your hard work since nowadays you can just buy DLC which can range to about the half if not the same price of an actual game and there you go. It's sad. Let's not forget those subscriptions to Nintendo Power magazines either.

And I'm just someone who likes to play video games sometimes.

Gamers are too entitled, and the corporate model has taken over the industry.

For example, Batman Arkham Knight. The amount of hatred WB got, you would think they lynched someone. Yes, it sucks that they didn't give a damn about the game seemingly. But it wasnt thaaaaaaat bad. I only got around 30fps, and it stuttered real bad. I still had a blast with it.

People have an opinion, they encounter others on the internet with strong opinions as well. Then they get in their own heads, like if they all hate something, they are contributing. Same goes for Mass Effect 3.

On topic: I don't usually miss any opportunity to point out that gamers are shit, because get real they are shit.

But while I get the general gist of his argument, and there is a lot of truth to it, part of it is just the typical brand of generalization (self aware it's coming from Mr. Gamers are shit). Were there sexist social rejects that had no leg to stand on criticizing Anita? Yeah, but there were also people making well informed criticisms of her work as well. Are there people that just tear something down with no real nuance to their argument? Yep, but in the same context there is actual well thought out critique. Criticism, especially constructive isn't a bad thing, simply put a lot of game productions skate by on feature set or look at how pretty it is or look at how it functions, and way too many apologize for shit they shouldn't apologize for.

I mean being buggy and not performing up to par day 1 is a valid criticism, about as valid as you can get. It shouldn't even be debateable, if you are selling me this product (and it's not under some early-access label), you should at least hit the bare minimum of make sure my game works. Can't speak to the Black Desert example, but Street Fighter V launched missing basic shit a Street Fighter game should have. That's not complaining for the sake of complaining, that's not even an argument that doesn't have merit, it's an argument that if anything doesn't have a reasonable counter for justification.

So general idea of that the interent is why we can't have nice things, it's an echo chamber, it's a joy suck, and all that stuff? Sure, it's the nature of most, most things are shit, most games are bad, most people aren't actually all that educated, and most people can't actually articulate a complaint. That's how most works, the good stuff is inherently on the rarer side. It's part of the problem, and gamers biggest short coming is

A: not putting their money where their mouth is enough

B: Simply put not putting in the effort to find the stuff that is making the games the way you want them to

But, the rest of his take, especially the one on reviews is a bit much. Not the least of which is, I would argue gamers, the internet, and people in general can't fucking handle criticism.

Good points, there's always two sides of a coin but let's be honest when it comes down to opinions about games on forums the hive mentality always wins and guess who's always more vocal. People complain just to complain or don't know why they are complaining,or they complain cause Angry Joe had something to say about it. I for one am not gonna knock on a game tell I try it, if someone says "how was Captain Toad" I'm gonna be straight with them and say I don't know, haven't played it. I won't name the guilty parties on this site but judging a game by watching a stream is sketchy, you can't judge a 20 hour game by watching 10 min of some dude named Cocopufflover streaming, it's like comparing pron to ***

Sure there's some sketchy devs who have some bad business practices so the whole industry from publishers, journalists, devs and even gamers are guilty of how much the frak the industry is getting, it's not one party doing the dmg.

I dont think gamers want perfection nowadays. Most are zombies who buy the same horrible game every year (Noob of Duty). You have these 'pro' gamers making a living playing a terribly assisted game.. they come play my clan on KZ or UC they get rekt... like omg why he no die, why no heavy aim assist, why game feel heavy x_x graphics also too good lol.

@Ballroompirate: This is what happens when they open up gaming to the mass market. You get all of the idiots coming in as well.

Core gamers are just as idiotic as the "masses," maybe even more so since they get pissed off about shit that doesn't matter.

@GreySeal9: Well the core gamers are the ones supporting Indie developers and the mass market are the ones supporting Ubisoft, EA and Activision.

At least the core gamers aren't funding the destruction of the games industry.

Sounds about right.

It's so pathetic the fact that every game that comes out now, we have to have a thread on comparing each little pixel in the game to see which version is better. Then the fanboy vultures start circling. It's just so bad for gaming.

Right, but a hive mentality has never effected my enjoyment of a game.

I'm sure the hive mind thought Red Dead and Mass Effect 2 were the best games of 2010, I wouldn't put either game in a top 10 for that year, they were entertaining, I certainly thought way better games came out that year. The hive mind has never truly celebrated Platinum Games, or Antichamber, or what have you, hell the hive mind made Titanfall out to be a disappointment, frankly it was a good game. It was shallow and needed more distinct game modes, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

People who base their opinion on metacritic, how many awards something won, or what have you? I mean it is what it is, people want to be all "my opinion is special" but then don't know how to have an opinion of their own. To me that stuff is easy to spot, so while yeah it can be a joy suck, it's as simple as not reading so much into a video game forum.

And if I were to put it another way, I think it highlights how well made other games are when something is more or less internet proof: Super Metroid, Resident Evil Evil 4, Snake Eater, Starcraft 1, System Shock, Red Dead Redemption (I don't care for it, but let's not pretend the game is hated on or something, it's adored).

I don't blame the internet. People are just dumb, and take pride in having shitty ideas if it means being a part of a group. That's the real issue.

Back in the day if you had 3 SNES games it was a treasure. Now people with 600 odd steam games are unsatisfied.

The big issue is that people are like sheep. They blindly follow every single bullshit big companies making, releasing, hyping etc just out of fanbyism. And that is the problem of the entire world tbh when it comes to politics , food , wars , media etc ...you name it.

Thats the main problem in gaming also imho. Sheep will always be sheep and big corporations will always capitalize on this and do whatever the **** they want because ...it works for them big time. Especially when people following companies out of fanboyism and pay for whatever crap is coming from X brand or Z brand.

My opinion

Yes, so MS trying to change the industry on their own, was MS's own corporate greed doing it for their evil gains. We should all thank SONY for knocking them the **** out.

I don't see anything wrong with gaming these days. I payed over 50$ for Dr. robotnik's mean bean machine and now you'll probably get games better than that thrown at you on your phone lol. There is a lot of criticism over the internet but I find most people offline to be negative as well, maybe not racist insult bad but still. When I game I'm playing a piece of entertainment, I'm not thinking about the crap someone said about the game no matter where it comes from. In short, gaming is fine to me,...gaming community on the other hand affects you in the way you let it.

Amazing isn't it? I am not even that old all things considered, and I still remember the 8 bit days pretty well, In truth what some people complain that we gamers are was exactly the same we were back then, just that it is louder now with the net, nothing has really changed, things have stayed the same.

"Well then it is time to grow up" Oh we have, but we still have an influx of children all the time, we dare to dictate them to be more mature then we were? Rare that I use the word "entitlement" but in this rare case it seems to fit"

Frankly I see WAY more poisonous behavior man other places then in the gaming culture. We are almost goddamn saints in comparison.

''Whats wrong with gaming now a days?'' The comunities: ''indies are crap, 30fps is unplayable, too many remasters, etc, etc....''

I have been gaming for 30 years, and in my opinion gaming was never as good, diverse and accessible as it is now.
