Random battles. Random battles should be a thing of the past. Don't get me wrong, i love turn based jrpgs, but i just hate random battles. Blue Dragon doesn't have random battles, Grandia doesn't have random battles, LO should not have random battles. But i'll still play it anyway :P.
heres where the jrpg gamers diverge.
there are those who like Jrpg because they are loyalists to the PS and will say whatever the trend that that console is taking is the right way.
jrpg fans know better. random battles + seperate battle sceen ftw!
[QUOTE="yoshi_64"]I concur with DanBal76. Random battle occurences feel so outdated to me now. It was a system more built on the limitations of consoles I believe and with today's technology... not having some entity out on the field you explore or having te enemies out and about a la FF XII, just feels wrong now at times. It's a nuissance as you must aimlessly wander blindly into battles just to find an enemy or get taken into battle when you don't want to. Usually the result of random battles means you will be dying a lot, or having low items/health throughout because of constant unwanted battles, and then it creates a need for needless grinding just to survive in long winded dungeons. but you know what? many hardcore JRPG fans including myself thought that 12 was worst in the series.worse than 10-2 (which was decent, but not good)
The thing is though that JRPGs that go for realtime tend to endup being a wannabe WRPG and far behind. It feels awful. Other that or like a MMO combat system
ugh xbox 360 rpgs are failures. pass this one up and hopfully you did it to blue dragon. so far no great rpgs in this "next generation"
ps2 has some interesting ones i saw when i was at best buy but i havent used that system in awhile so i dunno. after lost odyssey i havent seen any potential promising rpg's maybe that one from square enix..no not ff13 lol the other one

I don't like it because there are 20 hours of cutscenes and 40 hours of game. Do the math. Also, you have to read a 34 chapter book.
I also don't like it because I havea PS3 and it's on the xbox 360, a system completely unsuited for it. I like JRPGs, and if this game does end up being great despite the 20 hours of cutscenes and the book it might take JRPGs away from the system i own. That would be terrible. Honest enough for you?

I disagree about all JRPGs neding to be tun based, since Star Ocean 3 and Tales of Symphonia were both obscenely good. I agree that the FF XII is a horrible mistake on SE's part, though. I hope FF XIII's battle system is actually, yknow, fun. Like games are supposed to be.

I agree 12 was horrible, X-2 was much better. There is just something about a game where you can set all your characters to do the action for you that is off putting. You could literally go 20-30 minutes without doing anything other then running around, it was a horrible mistake on squares part. With that said LO looks amazing and I'm sorry that some people can't see that, it is however their opinion and they are entitled to it. On a side note I'm sick of people saying that JRPG's don't belong on the 360, I own Enchanted Arms, Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata and I enjoy them all. Granted I'm one of a small minority, it is still nice to have the added variety to so many FPS heavy hitters.

Hey i own a 360, but you don't see me bashingJRPGs. Actuallyi'm a big fan of the FF series (except X-2 and XII), and i'm atually hoping that FFXIII will eventually come to the 360, even if it comes out after the PS3 version. Going back to the topic, i guess the reason I'm really hyped up about LO is that it is alot like FFX in terms of gameplay, and to me that's a GOOD thing. Personally after the two dissapointments that were X-2 and XII , I'm really looking forward to LO for my JRPG fix.

X-2 better than FFXII? What? Yeah the combat lacked a little umph, but it was still the best FF on the PS2 imo.
Then again based on the FFXIII trailer, and interrviews that issue has been resolved. Now it just needs to make sure that the Character development is more individual, and that sidequests aren't more interesting than the main story (Hunts in FFXII)
"doesn't belong on 360" has got to be the worst argument ever
I would have preferred if they had made LO on a custom engine designed by an all Japanese team, It runs on U3 engine. But it sounds to me like it should have a strong story, good graphics, and great music. The gameplay engine is hard to say but I hear the random battles won't be as heavy as old school random battle games and they are trying to pace everything just right.
I agree with the main flaw in FF 12 is the combat system, It just seemed really weak.
JRPG's in general need alot of innovation because to be honest WRPG's areovershadowing them in alot of aspects, The main problems for me are They are to linear, Slim to none customisation, Teenage or Ladyboy hero's, Same story all the time (Teen/Ladyboy Hero along with his loyalconpanions save the world from the badguys), You may think I'm hating on JRPG's but I have played Dozens ofem since Snes, Can you really say they have changed since the Snes or Ps1 era except a new paint job, And frankly I'm getting tired of it, Sqaure should bring out a JRPG which has plenty of innovation and new things, Not rehash's and spin off's.

1. I don't understand why so many people dislike the "ladyboy" character designs. I don't even understand why they call it that.
2. They are usually linear because from how i understand it the Japanese like tasks to be structured.
3. Customization....Hmm well i think it's better not to have it if it help you relate to the characters better.
4. Since when don't you save the world in WRPG's? Not to mention that even though i have played countless JRPG's not once have i felt that it has had any real story similarities with other JRPG's i have played.
5. Hmm you have a funny idea about what rehashes are. We will see how the FFXIII's turn out.

1. Try not thinking of them as RPGs and instead as interactive novels. Besides, linearity doesn't seem to be a problem with certain other genres popular in the West (i.e. shooters).
2. The Japanese have a different aesthetic for attractiveness, and one of them calls for unassuming heroes rather than the beefcake butches that dominate Western media. Their heroes are more humble than flamboyant, and hide their strength rather than flaunt it.
3. "Save the world" is your big complaint? Come on, that's a basic (emphasis on "basic") plot premise that hundreds of stories share, but perform an endless amount of variation on. JRPGs using it as a premise just means JRPGs are generally more epic than WRPGs. Once you get to the country-level or world-level scale of storylines, there are few basic plot premises (emphasis on "basic") other than "save the world," anyway, unless you want the story to become a political thriller which aren't really exciting enough to use as an RPG story premise.
I'm tired of random battles. I'm ready for jrpgs to embrace the future that FFXII provided for them. FFXII is by far my favorite numbered Final Fantasy game. It's true that Vaan was a horrible character but everything else in the game was amazing.
The premise of LO sounds awesome, although I'm more interested in Infinite Undiscovery atm.
I prefer JRPGs over WRPGs but I wish they could combine all that I like of each. I want the style and character models of JRPGS with the biowareish action of WRPGs and no random battles. And please let items and armor reflect on the characters. I hate equipping a sword of doom only to have my guy still look like he's carrying his originall rusty sword. And get rid of the little kids (that kiddy with the camera in Eternal Sonata makes me not want to buy it).
The combat looks fun, only thing im worried is will the story pull me in, blue dragon was good, but the story was just a "in one ear, out the other" And since its made by the same people thats my only concern, either way ill play it, and so should you

I completely agree with most of this post. I think kids in games can be alittle iffy. It can both be a postitive, and a negative aspect depending on how the developers handled it. I think the best example of how it can be done is Grandia.
One more thing. FFIX>FFXII, but that's just me :)

its over hyped...and looks like FFX with improved graphics... not that impressed.... but then again people like white knight story which also dosnt look really "next gen" as some say... dont get me wrong they aren't bad games... but it just dosnt seem right considering FFXIII and versus, well look AMAZING... i don't doubt square, the PS1 CGI became PS2 gameplay and then some... the PS2 CGI will become the PS3 gameplay and then some.... neways in conclusion i just dont think itsn nething that big to glorify... i doubt it will have a chance to stand up against FFXIII type games, but wait and see i guess
I have no doubt in my mind that if LO was a PS3 exclusive, all current complaints would be non-existent.
i have no doubt if FFXIII was on 360 lemmings would stop saying FF is worst game ever halo is so much better JRPGs suck, etc.... so dont try to pull a leg... because it might wake up...
?there is more hate form lemmings on FF then cows hate LO, and im not saying you hate FF, but then again i dont hate LO, i just think its being overhyped by fanboys, people think its the FF killer... lol
What's wrong:
For me, it is the outdated combat system. Nowadays, it's the same stuff with some tweek there, some utilization here. Go for realtime battle, which Final Fantasy XII exceeds at. Give us players, some of the MMORPG features, no slow summoning bullcrap that pisses people off. We want supportive skills to cast fast.
My needs:
Co-op! Co-op! Each player gets to have 1 character in party, making a total of 4. But when played in Co-Op, monster's HP is upgraded to 50%. Now that is sweeeeet! And please, huge selection of weapons/types.
I also don't like it because I havea PS3 and it's on the xbox 360, a system completely unsuited for it.

No, you're right. It should be on the PS3, because their JRPG lineup suits it MUCH better! They have Enchanted Arms... and uh.... Folklore?
What a joke. People need to get over the idea of the 360 being the new system with all the games on it, as opposed to the PS2 last generation.

Who does? Why do cows keep saying foolish things like that? Lost Odyssey is being hyped A, and you say its being overhyped and hyped as a Final Fantasy killer?
