[QUOTE="linkhero1"] It has nothing to do with copying. I'm just saying they could have made a new font just for PS3 rather than using the Spiderman font.the-very-best

Think of it from a marketing point of view. Spiderman 3 is going to be advertised everywhere worldwide in May when released. What's wrong with Sony taking a font that will be known worldwide and using it for the PS3 to catch quick attention?

Exactly. Spiderman is a known franchise, loved by millions, possibly billions of people.

[QUOTE="azrealhk"]I guess this is all to do with Sony copying from M$ and nitendo stuff.

Well, if it infringes on copyright or patents then they will get sued.
If not then either the competitor is too stupid not to copyright or patent it, or that the feature is so common that they cannot apply for a patent.

What I am saying is that, if Cony copied something original I am sued they would be sued, same goes for Nintendo and M$.

Nicely said.

That is very poor logic. They cannot patent things like Achievements or Miis, but because you cannot patent them, that does not mean you should be allowed to steal the ideas and just name them something different.
Sony needs to be original, not just copy everything successful from the two more popular systems.

[QUOTE="Zerostatic0"][QUOTE="the-very-best"]Anyway, my point was there is nothing wrong with Sony taking achievements and Mii's because both features are goodthe-very-best
I wish I could turn back time to like 2 weeks ago and ask you "Don't you wish the PS3 had Mii's like the Wii does?", I bet your response would have been like "Hell no, that's for little kids and non-gamers, hardcore PS3 gamers don't want some stupid mii's," or something like that.

That wouldn't have been my response but I do see your point.

In any case, there's nothing wrong with having more features.

btw, I do agree with your point, there is nothing wrong with Sony trying to put out a good product by doing what their competitors do right. I mean it's not like there is no innovation in the PS3. I mean the damn thing has Blu-Ray and a Cell processor, regardless of whatever Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii fanboys want to say, the PS3 has a more advanced Media Format and CPU.

Exactly, which shows they are still original. As long as there is originality then it's fine imo to take features from other companies.

When a company relies solely on other companies to get ideas then that is where the problems begin.

I agree that Achievements and Miis are original to both the xbox 360 and Wii. However, if a percentage of the gaming community enjoy these features, why shouldn't they also incorporate this into the PS3? People enjoy it so why not add it? I highly doubt that the general public cares about these features being stolen. The only thing that will matter to them is that these features are also in their system. I agree that Sony needs to be more orignal, but I personally don't mind Sony "stealing" these features. If it gives me another reason why I should buy a PS3, why not?

I don't see as much fanboys pissed about Achievements and Miis then fanboys being pissed at Sony for "copying " Xbox Live and motion sensing. They consider these things as the true features that seperates the 360 and Wii from the PS3.  Online gaming and motion sensing is not truly original, now is it?

There's nothing wrong with it and Sony has hardly actually copied anything. You can't blame them for seeing what works for others and implementing their own version of it. The stupidity of the "Sony copies" bs really came out when lemmings freaked out over the Sixaxis "copying" having a home button in the center..... when any common logic says you must have a home button to access a background OS.

Sony has taken (and is taking) a few things from its competitors, sure, but what's wrong with that? They take the features and improve upon them.

To be honest, it just seems like people are realizing Sony is going to steal its competitors online, make it better, for free, and we all know what kind of effect that will have on consumers. It also helps justify the PS3's price.

Anyway, my point was there is nothing wrong with Sony taking achievements and Mii's because both features are good so what's the problem with adding them to the already strong list of features for the PS3?

Am I insane to think that it's OK for companies to copy from one another? They all do it, but it's not like they've all stopped being original.

Anyway, what do you guys think?

I don't think anyone who accuses Sony of copying can blame them. Did you watch the IGN interview? The guy interviewing Phil Harrison said in the end that he will buy the 360 version of a multi-player game because of achievements. Sony realized people care about that so they thought of including something similar. Would some of you rather have them blatantly copy? As for myself, I don't think they are copying because things like achievements and avatars have been done before on other outlets. I hardly consider that copying.
