@hardwenzen:
RE6 was a real abomination. I've yet to have played any RE game worse than that. And yeah, I DID pay $60 for RE3 Remake. It felt more like a $30 game, while RE6 was like a $10 game.

Resident Evil 3's remake was bad.
When remaking a game, generally, at the very least, you want to match or exceed it.
This done neither, in fact, it straight up is missing content on an alright tight game.
I think you're being damn generous by just calling it bad. Its a damn abomination. I am so glad i skipped it at launch. Imagine paying $60 for THIS. Sweet Jesus.
Mean, subjective here, but if a game has replay value, and most RE games do, generally don't mind if it's 4-5 hours long.
Take that over some padded repetitive Ubisoft shit any day.
Well, of course, but nothing felt like that in a good Capcom game, so why can't they just make a quality long RE title? Hopefully RE8 will be just that.
Well yes, suppose.
From just a general "quality" standpoint, it is lower.
@uninspiredcup:
Weren't Resident Evil games supposed to be something that you can speed-run? They always have a record for how fast you can beat the game and reward you if you can do it as fast as possible. I've seen people speed-run the original RE3 in less than 1 hour.
My biggest disappointment is the lack of news from the big three but I think that may have to do with COVID.
We still have 4 months left before the year ends, so I'm reserving some judgment. Either way, TLOU2 for me. I haven't even finished it yet.
@uninspiredcup:
So then why were so many people angry about RE3 Remake being around the usual 3-4 hour length?

Original RE3 had several decisions in it that changed the game up a bit and allowed for mutiple playthroughs, also had mercenaries.
I would say Skater XL. It just feels unfinished. It's kinda fun, but there aren't enough maps to justify buying it and the wipeout animations are awful.
@fedor:
The decision making in the original RE3 didn't really mean much when the main events happened no matter what. But I definitely *do* miss Mercenaries. The tacky MP doesn't hold a candle to it.
@dracula_16:
I've been on the fence about Skater XL for a while. Sad to know that it feels rushed but I guess I'll just wait for Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2 Remake. :/
Quite alot of baffling shit in Fallen Order.
Like when Cal enters a dark area, the light-saber acts as a flash-light. In most games this is a simple "on/off".
In Fallen Order the player has to hold down a button to raise the light-saber, which causes Cal to move at about 1/4 the speed, and the torch itself lights up absolutely **** all, with no enemies in the areas, amounting to hobbling slowly from one side to the other.
Just one of a myriad of "what is the fucking point of this?" design decisions.
TLOU2. Knew it wasn't gonna be brilliant. Was still disappointing. But whatever. I own it digitally, so it's easier to pretend I never bought it in the first place.
One of the biggest disappointments for me was the Warcraft 3 remaster. Apparently its broken and overwrites the original game as well. I was looking forward to entering the multiplayer but now I'll probably never replay it.
I also second the response to TLOU2. What is wrong with people? Its a terrific game and arguably better than the first one in most areas. The story was really affecting as well and so well acted. If you haven't played it yet because of the backlash, put all that aside and try it.
@MirkoS77:
I was never that big a fan of Last of Us, anyway. So my expectations weren't high to begin with. But my biggest disappointment with LOU Part II was the overreaction to Joel's death. I think everyone went way beyond the boundaries of what a fandom is meant to be. For God's sake, we didn't even play as Joel through the entire game of the original!
Updating my response to MS Flight Sim, since I was really looking forward to it and sunk literally a week into trying to get it to install. Never seen anything quite like this, but no game is worth that. I'll try again in a few months when they have hopefully got their act (and servers) together
@uninspiredcup:
Oh man but it's sooooo immersive - *vomits in disgust*
I think you've convinced me not to play this game

I love the first game and think he's a great character.
His death was affecting but it didn't make me angry or hate the sequel.
This is the story they chose to tell and I respect the hell out of them for not playing it safe.
I've played a lot of Encounters mode recently and honestly, this one is well ahead of the prequel in terms of level design and mechanics.
I also don't think a grown-up Ellie would pair well with Joel again. Their dynamic would have changed a lot because she's more world weary.
Haven't played TLOU 2 yet, but i'm shocked to hear how ND killed off lead protagonist and his killer goes off scott free (Shown mercy) in the end by the avenger. I can't even ...

There's a huge amount of character development applied to his killer though that really adds heft and complexity to the story.

From the "killer's" point of view the "protagonist" was the bad guy all along.

I know that. Still ... Joel??? :P

HaHa maybe. Now i lost all interest to Play TLOU 2 anytime soon lol. Maybe when i get it in bargain bin. Joel and ellie were my dearest chars in TLOU, Joel somewhat like a protective father figure. Still can't beleive he's no more and killer gets away ( Like No More Country for Old Men reference ) :P

Huge fan of TLoU here, don't think high expectations were the problem. Speaking from a gameplay and mechanics perspective, I was pleasantly surprised at the evolution.
I think people went overboard not because they didn't want Joel to die (many, if not most were expecting it), it's that it felt disrespectful. It felt out of character, unearned and contrived....simply there to grant plot impetus at the expense of the character we knew. Which is much of my problem with TLoU II in general: its writing didn't feel natural and organic. It didn't flow, it felt forced and artificial, almost as if you could feel the writer pulling the strings at certain moments to achieve a narrative goal.
When there's so many people complaining about part of a story that the writer feels compelled to come out and make a statement clarifying why a character made a particular decision outside of the fiction (as Druckmann did regarding Joel's passing), I think that's a glaring sign that you've fundamentally failed at your job as a writer. You shouldn't have to do that, or even feel the need to.
@MirkoS77:
It's sadder when you have to remind people that Last of Us is a work of fiction and that's why it doesn't matter whether or not we feel it's plausible. Like you said, the writers pull the strings but because they do, they shouldn't have to explain to us why they did something. And that's simply because people overreacted. If anything, they should be applauded for NOT taking safe route and not giving Joel the ideal send-off. It's a very bold move on their behalf.
@uninspiredcup: To be fair ... i saw a lot of criticism for this game and most were saying that giving how bad Star Wars games have been, this was a step on the right direction, yet it still needed heavy tweaks and fixes, maybe some Star Wars fans overhyped it which in the long run, no doubt hurts the game.
Anyway ... for me, and this is probably disappointment of the gen (either this one or Mass Effect Andromeda) is The Last of Us 2. But not because "agendas" and whatnot ... but because i really didn't like the story and the characters. I mean, TLOU felt so different, like they took their time thinking how to develop each character and how to make every interaction mean something ... and here it was the opposite. Also ... the Joel/Ellie relationship from the last game was never addressed in a proper way... just like, there is done. And the ending is bad, period ... is not "divisive", is bad... i honestly thought i was watching a bad Walking Dead season.
Ubisoft in general.
They haven't released shit. I know quarter 3 and 4 of 2019 was tough but I feel like they did some decent DLC for Anno 1800 and that's it. Speaking of which I need to cancel my Uplay sub.
Oh yeah and some lame BR game that's too late and too underwhelming to be successful.
Doom Eternal forced QTE kills, out of place platforming ect.. I miss old Doom without stupid glory kills.
Yeah, the glory kills are like playing drinking games; they get in the way of my drinking.
Get 'em out of there and just let me play. I mean, I get it, it's part of the "formula" for playing the game but it's just a constant interruption imo. Would be nice if they patched or modified something into the game where the enemies just drop health and loot randomly. Or something....I don't know.
It is bad enough to almost make me wish for a health/shield regen system *gasp!*

we actually left health regen system be glad. i dont want regen health system to return in FPS again.
Partial regen health is fine like one in Metro series.

Jedi Fallen Order was a total miss for me.
Really wanted to like it being Star Wars but it's just flatlined.

I like how all people with some sort of taste has been like "I wanted to like it because it's Star Wars, but.." since 1999.

Certainly not terrible, just lumbered with lots of shit that bring it down. They've clearly looked at stuff gamers like and hate, and made a weird Frankenstein game with "Star Wars" attached.
Do feel strongly if this was a more straight-forward A-B Jedi map design, with the quality that level design encompasses, along with similar exploration and resources rewarded from said exploration, it would be a far better game.
As it stands, it's a Dark Souls inspired game that doesn't seem to understand Dark Souls. With Metroid elements that merely block the player with no sense of actual progression or reward for leaving the (strictly linear) path. The actual player abilities themselves derived from following the linear story-path, with almost superficial leveling.
For example, the game gave me the illusion of opening up after the initial level, and I went straight to Dathomir because recognized it as the Nighsister planet from the Clone Wars.
After repetitively dying over and over, someway in, I just encountered a leg I couldn't jump. And that was it. Come back later when you progress in the story.
Not difficulty stopping the player, and the game insinuated with the 3 planets seemingly to pick on a whim that this would be open ended, but nope. Just a big brick wall.
Fail to see what is fun or satisfying about that. And that's a question that raised repeatedly with many aspects.
@uninspiredcup:
Strongly agree on all your points about Fallen Order. They've cherry-picked parts of other games, including Ori (!), without determining if its suitable for Star Wars or not.
Its a bit of Dark Souls, Tomb Raider, and Mass Effect when I wish it was more like Jedi Knight 2: Outcast.
@uninspiredcup: Hopefully they can get their act together for the sequel, i mean it was a massive success, so i'm guessing there is going to be a sequel, the idea has potential ... but they need to be far more focused on a single base and go with it, i mean, i wouldn't mind a full Dark Souls approach without losing the Star Wars feel.
Covid gave me all this extra time to game with friends since one of my jobs closed for our area's stay-in-place orders and one of my good friends job had him work from home, so we wanted to make a go at beating MCC together on Legendary. That started in March, but because like everyone in area working from home, or staying home using Internet, streaming that 4K UHD Netflix, the local ISP monopoly can't handle all the traffic, been having wicked packet loss, pretty much any peer-to-peer hosting is out of question for me at time until ISP finishes laying down the new fiber that was supposed to be done two months ago but is still not ready.
Not a total waste, as long as I game off a dedicated server then they usually reconcile any packet loss much better and I am able to play with friends that way just fine. But the peer-to-peer stuff will have to wait.
