Outside the combat being auto lock on I just flat out love it. The puzzles are good. They aren't difficult, but they are varied, interesting, and elaborate enough to feel satisfying, the atmosphere is ****ing ace, the boss battles are just *drool* status, although Prime 2 has better bosses, the variety is there, and the entire design of the experience is built in game. You feel isolated in that game, the world feels like an environment instead of a level(unlike say Mass Effect 2s missions), and while the story isn't exactly good(ugh videogame stories) I like how it's told.
If I judged the game entirely on its combat. mmm I could see myself calling it a bit weak. That said the shooting itself is fine as there is enough of a variety in enemies to make some segments a lot of fun(Pirates), and the environments in that game were just drool worthy. Few games make me want to explore like Metroid Prime does. Few franchises do all that while providing me with satisfying boss fights quite like Metroid in generally(except for Prime 3, that **** was legit weak).
Basically Metroid Prime is the FPS, that does just enough to make it feel completely different from the other FPS games and it's freakin Metroid. I have a soft spot for that series and game. Though now I am interested on what you didn't enjoy about Metroid Prime(actually I was going to ask in the trilogy thread, but went and got something to eat instead).Guppy507
I only have 3 problems with Prime that keep it from being top 10 material.
It's quite frustrating actually because of how close to perfection it is. If the controls were better, and enemies didn't respawn until you left a zone, the game would easily be top 5 material.
Everything you said is spot on though. Atmosphere, exploration, and storytelling are fantastic, and second only to Morrowind.
Agreed on the combat, I guess the respawning thing is fair game(didn't bother me, but I see why it would get annoying). Not agreeing on controls though. I thought platforming was very easy. I mean I guess the 2nd stick should have been used, but whatever. Technically that complaint is fixed in the Wii version. As the wii controls are superb(they also make the game even easier lol). Except those games don't have sequence breaking which to a lot of the Metroid fanbase is just pure blasphemy. Not to mess with the flow of the brolationship here, but um......I think Elder Scrolls as a series is coma inducing =DOnly got into gaming last gen
1. Mass Effect 2 - Xbox 360
2. Castlevania Lords of Shadow - Xbox 360
3. The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion - Xbox 360
4.Star Wars Battlefront II - PS2
5. Darksiders - Xbox 360
Chronicles of Riddick. Now that's a badass SP(although so are Chaos Theory, Max Payne, and Crysis) game. Dark Athena was so meh. Starbreeze needs to make a new game since they aren't making me Darkness 2 ;(jg4xchampMost disappointing news this year. Why Starbreeze, WHY?!
Hmm... limiting it to five is kind of unfair to most of them. But I can try.
1. Super Metroid
No other game throughout my gaming career has seen as much devotion to it as this one. Some may have had higher play-times, but I devoted a large portion of my life and being to this game. I spent weeks perfecting my speed runs, ending up with a 0:52 minute any% run. No other game has as great a soundtrack or atmosphere. This is a godly game that transcends almost every possible standard anyone could ever apply to it.
2. Shadow of the Colossus
An etheral experience that defined the previous generation for me. Amazing soundtracks, stupendous world and absolutely perfect story. So subtle and so emotive, yet with hardly any dialogue. It sums up how I think artistic expression should be approached in gaming... not this "make it like a movie" garbage others feel is what is necessary to make games "into art."
3. Prince of Persia 2008
A fastly growing favourite of mine. It introduced me to Zoroastrianism (a religious tradition I am starting to think I will ascribe to) and provided an incredibly moving and visually stunning experience. Some areas in the world are so vastly beautiful, it makes me appreciate the natural world so much more.
4. Age of Empires II: Age of Kings + The Conquerors
My favourite RTS of all time. I probably put several thousand hours into this game (it is impossible to really know). I normally don't mention this game that often, but it was an essential part of my gaming career, and every moment was exceptionally enjoyable.
5. Doom II: Hell on Earth
My first real PC game and one I have been playing almost yearly since its release. My first "shooter" and a game that basically laid the entire foundation for my future gaming career (another would be Super Mario World, but I don't remember it as fondly). With the addition of modern FPS elements with the Skulltag launcher makes this game a timeless masterpiece of the shooter genre.
I'm bad at these sorts of lists, but I'll go with:
Silent Hill 2
Ico
Super Mario World
Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
Uncharted 2
I think if God himself came down and said I could only play 5 games for the rest of my life...I would be alright with those.

It's okay, I've long since forgiven you for your (wrong) opinions of the Elder Scrolls games, Dragon Age, and Half Life 2. :P
The platforming was really easy, but it was harder than it should have been because of the controls. If it had standard console FPS controls, my only complaint would the the respawning enemies. I just recently played it for the first time (played MP2 years ago, but never got around to the first one), but if I had played it when it came out, I'm sure I wouldn't have nearly as much to complain about.
The first two are interchangeable depending on how I feel that day. 8)
Halo CE
KOTOR
Ghost Recon
Forza / PGR
PSO / Shenmue
Yeah, I cheated and I'm still not satisfied with my answer - too hard !!! :P
Agree with your first TC.
1. Metal Gear Solid 4
2. Final Fantasy X
3. Diablo 2
4. Devil May Cry
5. Tekken 3
;)

5. Counter-Strike 1.6
4.Doom II
3.Metal Gear Solid 1
2. The Legend of Zelda: Windwaker
1. Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1)
Honorable mentions (because I love these games too)
Legend of Dragoon
OoT
LttP
Halo CE
Super Metroid
Metroid Prime
Pokemon Red/Blue
Balloon Kid
SM64
Crash Badindicoot 2
Zombies at My Nieghbors
Saga Frontier
...I'll stop there because this list could go on forever...:P

Agreed. Never bothered me one bit. But I can understand if someone said the combat was a bit lacking. It was a little too tame to some extent. Still Numero uno to me though
