So who does SW see as the next 3rd party publisher in line to lead our industry? EA seems to have really stepped up this gen, think they'll take back the lead? ZeniMax is another very good choice. They just bought id Software and a couple other development houses, on top of already having Bethesda. Take Two? They had some money troubles a few years back, are they good now?

What say you?

EA has a ton of staying power. They've been in business nearly 30 years - they started out making games for 8-bit computers.

EA for certain. They're still up there with Activision as of right now and they continue to gain ground. They have a lot of franchises that people still buy such as Mass Effect, Valve games, Battlefield, Madden/NBA/other sports. I wonder if perhaps Ubisoft could take a stand, but their only huge franchise right now is Assassin's Creed (iirc).

No, they don't, they're just working together.

If Activision owned Blizzard there'd be StarCraft 6 by now and the monthly subscribtion for WoW would be $50.

Yeah because Activision doesn't have Blizzard and their 3 established franchises as well as whatever their new Titan project is... yeah go Bungie Unannounced! thats all you got activision! Sarcasm aside, a few things... First being Call of Duty isn't going to just die over night. When it happens (and its popularity WILL die down) it won't be for another few iterations... likely not till the end of this gen beginning of next gene. Secondly, As i said in my sarcastic remarks, Blizzard represents the sole reason Activision is as large as they are. The warcraft, starcraft and diablo franchises can keep any publisher at the top, just look at what it did for Vivendi... that was practically ALL they had for how many years? Third... Activision is responsible for some of the most successful movie/comic tie in with franchises that include Marvel Comics and James Bond. In a nut shell? Activision isn't going anywhere even if call of duty was forgotten tomorrow.

Ah, I did forget about Blizzard. But my point still stands, Activisions days as the top publisher are numbered. I'm not completely sure if the relationship between Activsion and Blizzard works like that anyways. I don't think Activision owns Blizzard in the traditional sense.

It's my understanding that the two are completely seperate entities, but they just answer to the same shareholders. However that works.

didn't Black ops sell something like 20 million or something already? with that in mind, there is no way activision is going down under anytime soon, heck the COD franchise alone could keep them afloat on wallstreet

When Activi$ion announced the Dj Hero series being closed down (after just two games) among the several other franchises they announced closing down this past week, I would have said they died in my heart, but Activision has been dead in my heart for quite a long while.

It works the same way Square Enix works. They don't own each other as they are now the same company essentially.

Blizzard owns almost half thier own stock I believe, and the other half isn't even owned by Activision, its Vivendi universal. I think Blizzard publishes their own games too...

They messed up majorly with GH and the Tony Hawk games, but with Blizzard and CoD I don't think they'll "fail" anytime soon. If anything they'll likely fall 2nd place to EA in earnings and quality games but thats still far from failing.

Don't even get a job as a psychic TC.

i doubt it. activision will be around for a very long time unless they start hiring terrible directors / programmers. after infinity ward left they still going strong with black ops. seriously i couldnt go back to MW2 . there's something about black ops that keeps me coming back to it. must be the customization of our avatar and weapons and also the people i play with online. as long as the perks dont get changed dramatically such as maybe in the future black ops 2 would have a perk for you to turn completely invinsible or unlimited ammos. i have a feeling those perks will be showing up for the new IP with bungie.

Well if Activision does buy Take-Two like the rumors say they will... well they will remain on top for a very long time... Call of Duty is a juggernaut, I don't see it declining anytime soon, unfortunately. However, if one publisher replaced Activision as the top dog, it would be EA. I mean who else? No one comes close to the the top two in terms of the number of top-selling games they produce.

hahahhah  we will all be dead till that day. Its like the second coming, you keep hearing about it, but there is no actual "happening" Also activision has made enough $$$ of cod that they will be still king even if they stopped publishing games alltogether. Seriously no other publisher has selled so many copies. If ubisoft and ea sold 8 millions, they would still be far far away from reaching them.

I had to research some stuff after people pointed out my mistake. From what I know.

Activision CEO is still head CEO. Bobby Kotick I think still heads it. Vivendi still owns majority shares though. Blizzard is a basically a stand alone division of Vivendi.

So although Activision cannot affect Blizzard is any way. I'm sure they still receive ridciulous profits from Blizzard. World of Warcraft alone could float any company.

That doesn't make them top publisher. Where is the information backing up the claim? Nintendo does more then that with a single game (not franchise but game) at times as well.

Not that I expect Activision to be going anyway,(TC needs to do some research if they think that all Activision has in COD) but EA seems to be the most obvious choice since they are also a mega publisher.
