I'm married and with a 3 year old daughter. I'm also 30 years old. I have a full time job as the CFO of a FQHC clinic and yet still find time to play video games. NOT alot of time, but I still find time.

For the record I'vd owned:

Commodore 64

two NES, two SNES, Gamecube, four PS1, three PS2,one PS3, one Xbox and one Wii.

When the PC has more then 3 games worth playing.Sp4rtan_3

R

To the OP:

When i'm dead and buried, or if gaming starts to really suck.

Or if it gets to the point that there are no longer console gens but instead we have one device (preferably virtual reality) that no longer needs to be updated and has nearly infinite impossibilities for devs to make games.

When Nintendo dies, consoles gaming dies.

But I'm pretty certain I've given up completely on Playstation and Xbox providing enough worthy experiences to justify owning them. Would probably get an Xbox if it was $50-$100 to play the handful of games I'd like to though. But c'mon... Why are the consoles so expensive to own nowadays? :(

Next gen, pretty much. Not worth it to me anymore. I'll probably buy Nintendo's console since there's not really any alternatives to their games on PC. Otherwise, thats it.

I've been a gamer from the very start, commodor 64 was my first console. I have a 360 and a ps3, and i think these will be the last consoles i buy. I like to keep my consoles in perfect condition so i don't have anymore room for any more consoles. I'm looking forward to Devil May Cry 5 and versus XIII, they will be the last games i buy. I'm older now and i feel like the console gamer inside me is dying. I want to go out meet girls, work hard at work and do something other than play games. The question is when will you give up buying new consoles?

caribo2222

im definately going to quit buying multiple consoles next gen. i have all 3 and its totally not worth it if you dont have the time. i could have gotten away with just owning a 360. having all 3 was a waste of money

Why can't I do all this and play video games? Why is this so hard to fathom that you can all these things while keep your passion for the hobbies that you love? It's called moderation.

To answer your question: I don't think I'll ever stop playing games. I'm probably going to play less as I get older if I get a more demanding job and probably a wife and kids. But, why give it up?

I wont give it up, i wont be buying any new consoles, because i have so many games, and not enough room to put them somewhere. I want to still be able to play my ps1 games in 10 years time. I try to keep my consoles in good condtion so they last. I don't throw the old console away if i get a new one like most people.

But, why stop buying consoles? You're still going to play games on the PC, amirite? You can make time by only buying a few games a generation not as many as you have been doing in the past. Like I said it's all about moderation.

I have a friend who was saying hes quitting gaming etc. so he can meet girls too and I was fine with that but the excuse he made for it kind of irritated me. Moderation is really the key like someone else already pointed out, I know tons of people who still game in college while studying for exams etc. The average age of a gamer today is like 30 something last I heard. Anyone who says they can't make time is a liar or an addict.

I don't get the hate on games like Uncharted and Halo. Both require skill, provide a challenge, are fun, and quality games. Uncharted is one of my favorite series ever. IMO a good game is a good game, indie or blockbuster.

NaveedLife

They're definitely good games, but they don't fully satisfy my craving for the unique games, I'm always looking for brand new experiences on top of the visited ones. The PC just offers that a lot more than consoles.

I wont ever quit gaming, Ive got a job that requires a lot of my time, a girlfriend and lots of friends that are not into games and I some how manage o fit gaming into my life, plus I want my kids when I have some to play games with me, plus games these days can be very educational, eg, heavy rain is like playiong a book and some other game story lines rival that of books, of course my kids will only play games rated for them.

XBLA has some good unique games, so does PSN. Heck event the Indie section of Xbox Live has some pretty goo small unique games (although not all of them are good. Not saying it's better than what's on the PC, but there are those types of games on the consoles.

Oh and WiiWare supposdly has some great games.

I think that is gonna be my last gen as well. I'm 23 but it's not because of my age but because of the games themselves. I played some good game this gen but except for a few games nothing really outstanding, mostly forgettable. I'm old school, I need more then flashy graphics and hd resolution to have fun with a game. I'm having more fun with the handhelds, with worse graphics but better gameplay then my ps3. All four installment of my four favorite series has been rather sub par, bad or god awful ( final fantasy XIII, gta 4, god of war 3 and metal gear solid 4). There is still good games or games i'm excited for but just not as much as before

Well considering we are in our 5th/6th year of this generation and I still don't own any of the consoles(other than a DS which is broken and a PSP), I guess I already have. lol

Gaming in general though, probably never. It's too enjoyable for me to just give up. Why would I want to give up a hobby that I enjoy? I keep playing video games for the same reason a guy follows his favourite football team. It's fun and it feels good.

never, ever since nintendo came out with motion controls it reignited the interest i had in video games

i was starting to think im too old for video games but motion controls added more realism to it, in a hobby that had alot of cartoony art

the day i quit gaming is the day i don't have enough money to do other things...so if i were you i would give up on consoles too if you can't meet any girls

i sold my 360 so i could go to the club lol i didnt play it anyways since i have a pc ps3 and wii, the same games on there are on 360 anyways

College. I haven't been doing too hot this year. I've been an A student, but my stress level tripled, and every moment I spend trying to recollect my sanity I spend gaming. Unfortunately I spend too much time recollecting my sanity, so I need to find a hobby that does it faster than gaming. So I'll commit myself to 1 hour a day. If I consistently break it I sell my PS3 and the games and buy my books for a year!

While I'd like to think I'm responsible with my gaming, I'm not. So when the time comes that there isn't time for it yet I demand to shove some in, I'll sell my consoles and quit gaming.

Thats your problem, youre not growing out of games, you need to grow up and learn to manage your time. I have a very active, healthy social life, physically active, a great relationship, and a full college schedule and soon to be internship to get into my post-graduate studies. I still have time to play games because I matured and learned to manage my time, I would suggest doing the same, it helps leaps and bounds

Not to derail the thread, but you should try picking up an instrument. Guitar and piano are great stress relievers after a few hours of initial time investment.

Never, not as long as I have my brain, my hands and sight.

I've already given up on Nintendo and MS this gen.

Next gen for me: PS4 + PC

Not sure about handhelds, though. PSP has been underwhelming and the DS will soon be taken over and phase out by 3DS, which frankly I'm not too interested in. So I'm not sure.

Gaming is part of my identity, I can do everything else in my life as well as game. It's keeping it in a healthy balance, I can still go out and meet girls work hard at work and do things other than play games. It doesn't have to be a ruling part of your life, nor should it ever be. Video games are more than just games to me though, they are an amazing platform to deliver powerfull messages and engage there audiences in ways movies and books never can. Perhaps it's my abillity to think of it more than just a hobby and as a artform spaning multiples genres, hell even Video game music has it's own place in my heart. Without letting it take over my life I have allowed it to become part of my life and part of who I am. Take what you will from it, but to say you outgrew video games is the same as saying you have outgrown apreciating art, or reading books, or learning about the world around you.
