When did consoles make the transition from innovation to gimmicks?

I'm not entirely sure who this person is but I think he went by the name of "PCgamesarenotcool" or something similar. Here are the messages he sent me:

"ill slit your throat while youre sleeping you pig **** **** jew snake yeah you ruined sw for me i got banned because you and now you **** up big time jew boi"

That is not the end of it however, there have been several other remarks about him and a bunch of other users from this site (who I don't think were aware of this and he was making it up) who were all planning on finding me and killing me. No joke. I got this message on PSN from him:

"stupid kike we are all planning on getting you dumb pig **** your days are numbered we are gonna put you in a oven and burn you alive everyone on here is coming for you"

The gamertag that sent this was Adolfothebest43, though I can't find him on PS3 trophies anymore. Maybe he got banned after I reported him.

This person has issues no doubt, they are mentally ill clearly. He also named off other users (who I will not name) that are "on his side" though I seriously doubt they are or are even aware of his behavior. I'm not worried at all, it's just a sad person on the interent. However some people are clearly mentally ill and this guy fits that perfectly.

In all honesty I think you need a ban, for your own good.  Go outside, breath a little, take a retrospective look at your life.  As a person who has suffered a great deal of pain in his life, from many sources, I can tell you this:

Life is hard.  Don't blame others for your own shortcomings.  If you feel you have a problem, seek help.  If help is not forthcoming then look again.  If you still find nothing then look to yourself for help.  If you still find nothing then do what you have to, without blaming others who owe you nothing.

Take it up with GS customer service, I hope you can get it resolved... you may often troll here on SW to get a rise out of people, but what those stalkers are yelling is going way too far...

It's not subjective. If something is a gimmick, then it's a gimmick regardless of whether or not you agree.

The fact that Nintendo and Sony are dropping motion controlled gaming in favor of touchscreen gaming is a clear indicator that motion controlled gaming was nothing more than a gimmick and not actual innovation. If developers had stuck with it and refined it over the years to improve the way we play games, then it would count as innovation. That isn't the case obviously. On the other hand, things like analog sticks and 3D graphics aren't gimmicks. They've genuinely improved the way we play games over the years.

Its gimmicks that create buzz and hype that sell millions of units. What usually ends up happening is gimmicks collect dust in closets (as Ive seen so many Wiis) where more reasonable need/want driven devises flourish.

I was an 80's baby, so gimmicks on consoles have always existed for me. The original NES was filled with gimmicky devices. So for me, there was never a transition...it just has always been that way.a55a55inx

However, the distinction between older consoles and newer consoles in regards to gimmicks is that newer consoles are built from the ground up with their gimmicks in mind. With older consoles, the gimmicks weren't the main focus. They were just side stuff that you had the option of getting.

Every console over the years has had its fair share of gimmicks, that's true. However, they've gone from being optional side stuff to the full blown main feature of a console. Developers are focusing more on these mandatory gimmicks than they are on actual innovation.

Wii U pad controller, Wii motion controls, PS Move, and Kinect are gimmicks. And yes I own a Wii and The Move controllers. They are all gimmicks or gimmicky.

The only part of the industry that the Wii innovated was that it gave developers the idea that they could make lots of money from dead end gimmicky ideas that don't help improve the quality of gaming at all. So then Sony and Microsoft tried to get in on the whole gimmicky motion controlled gaming scene, until it became an unpopular fad. Now Nintendo is dropping the whole motion control thing and moving onto touchscreen gaming, with Sony right behind them. On the other hand, Microsoft is showcasing their fantastically gaudy Illumiroom concept.

Because of the Wii, developers are going to be more concerned with using flashy gimmicks to sell their consoles now instead of relying on real, tangible innovation and evolution. So yeah, thank you Wii.

So far I have just blocked him on Youtube and PS3, he got banned from GS and IGN. For the most part it seems to have quited down but every now and then I get a random message on Youtube or PSN from him using a different name and he just foams at the mouth again.

blame Nintendo for that. The bastards ruined gaming for everybody. The only ones that care for gaming are Sony because even M$ is all about robbing you and it's clear when you compare PS+ to XBL Gold and its insane failure rate.

The next gen is going to be hilarious, they really will be the poor man's PC.  DRM, no used games, internet required (and not just for a few games, ALL games), fees for online and all of that with p1ss poor specs and no innovation.

If you keep posting about this here, you'll just draw more attention to yourself, the more angrier and frustrated you seem, the more of these trolls and stalkers can you expect. Take it up with GS customer service, I hope you can get it resolved... you may often troll here on SW to get a rise out of people, but what those stalkers are yelling is going way too far...

I honetly don't think he's that sad of a person. He may troll often and he may do a pretty good job of riling up people on SW (usually without posting open insults), but these stalkers are going way too far, don't think even he wants to deal with them.

I'd have problems listing even 10 SP orriented PC games using AO-DRM, so "quite a few" is actually quite an overstatement when you take the size of an overall PC library into the account...
