i hear from people that microsoft had a bad start... but since i just recently got into the system wars (like 3 months ago) i want to know when they started picking up speed and if people think the P$3 will do the same
They haven't updated for March or April sales; but, here's what I think is an accurate chart comparing the North American sales of the major systems introduced since about 2001.

The 360 sales never really exploded; but, they did start to increase after about 4 months on the market. though, they do seem to always level off after a few spikes.
