I agree. The $600 price point was a really huge turnoff. I was surprised that the crowd didn't get all riled up like they did when Steve announced a parternship with MS.
When ps3 was announced to be some nice system and as of now is a pos..., not to offend anyone but it's the reality, as for me the only game I care about in the ps3 is FF13 (tho' I'm starting to dislike Jrpg after playing too much wrpg...) and mgs4 (mgs4 not that much... just the story...), all other games IMO seem average.

I agree with that. I still remember some lemmings saying how the xbox was better than PS2 because the PS2 was for gay people. It's true. They based it on the fact that the main characters in PS2 RPGs look like girls. Apparently, the Xbox was for real men.
i was praising ps3 because of the old gundam video they showed and the killzone.. then out of nowhere i kept hearing rumor of blueray prices 70 bucks and system costing a lot of money... that turn me off.. when i saw that e3 2006 interview i said garbage and went and bough a 360.. dont regret that decision. have 10 games for it now and like 15 more on my most wanted list not release yet.

what about the new version of the 360?? ..its goin to be up to 500 dollars ..isnt that expensive as well.. and payin for live services 50 dollars a year..and the early adopters probaly goin to be purchasing the 120gb hdd ..and i know its goin to be costing more then 100 dollars.. since the 20gb that out for the 360 right now cost 100 dollars..lol..so they ripped them off badly....i feel so good purchasin the ps3...its all worth the money..
I seem to remember it coming about a few minutes after the E3 sony press conference, just after they annouced the price.. forums where getting flooded I think.. thats all it boils down to really, it's not that ps3 isnt a good console.. it's the price.

It wasn't just one thing or one event, the started to build after everyone figured out Sony had lied about the PS3 video demo at E3 2005 and gradually escalated from there and hit a critical point at E3 2006 when Sony announced the price and the Sixaxis (which most thought was a desperate move to counter Nintendo).
The Sony hate started because people more than likely fell for all those nifty trailers they showed at E305. And then for some reason, everyone started to believe that Blu-Ray was being forced upon them like some kind of trojan horse. Now, don't get me wrong, they have stumbled with UMD. But you know, MiniDisc was far superior to what it was designed to compete with, the cassette. And have you ever heard the sound quality of a Sony MP3 player? The fact is, they're operating on their own playing field. And when E306 and the price came, everyone suddenly freaked out because Sony said, forget casual and forget mainstream, we want to deliver the Sony entertainment experience using our biggest brandname, the Playstation. You think they had Samsung or Sanyo 1080i TVs in the office while working? Of course not, they had Sony TVs. Sound? I bet it said Sony on it.
I don't care. I own a lot of their goods and it's all been pretty sweet to me. Looks great, has always been reliable, and over a decade of great service and delivering the goods can't really be defeated with 120FPS in 4D when we say so $1200...
