Microsoft is rich, but not that rich and besides, Sony and Nintendo will just say NO!!
Not even Bill Gate's Chrome Steel Nail-Clipper nor his Diamond Cast TV Remote will make Sony and Nintendo say Yes.....

Not to mention Microsoft's investors would go into a full scale selloff and the value of MS's shares would tank.
Sony is bigger than MS. Sony has more facilities, more staff, more products, more revenue, more physical capital than MS. Think abuout how much physical product Sony produces: three different Playstations at full scale, digital cameras, telephones, televisions, stereo systems, laptops. They are members of a high-def movie format alliance, the blu-ray association. They are business partners with IBM and Toshiba in regards to their Cell Processor, which is used in medical technology. Sony is firmly rooted in worldwide economics. It cannot be bought by a smaller business, which makes operating systems, and produces fewer physical products: two different Xboxs, some first party computer peripherals and accesories. Mordred19also own movie and music studios.

The fact that some sony products need MS software in them...i.e. sony computer's have windows......means alot.

I am perfectly aware of MS's monopoly on operating systems. They force everyone to adopt Windows and now Vista. BUt I mean sony has the factories to produce physical electronic devices, much more than MS. could MS possibly have sustained production of normal xboxs in addition to core, premium, and elite 360s?I don't believe they have enoughmoney or physical capital for that. Making operating systems is not as expensive in full scale production.
I can't say who the better company is. In this case, it seems like a really insubstantial term. I only care about their respective games departments, Sony Computer Entertainment vs Microsoft Games Studios. As whole companies, Sony is simply larger.

its not a matter of if the companies are for sale. Its a matter of stock holding. If Bill gates werea 51% stock holder in nintendo, what ever he were to say happens. he can then as the majority stock holder force the company to merge, or be bought out at a cheap price
You can't buy something that isn't for sale.heretrixEver heard of a hostile takeover? Sony is publicly traded so could be bought out with stock market maneuvers.
Nintendo, I don't know. Are they public or private?

How much is each company's net worth? This should account for the sum of each company's assets vs. their debts.[QUOTE="Mordred19"][QUOTE="killaj2786"][QUOTE="Mordred19"]Sony is bigger than MS. but Bill can't do whatever he wants. He's just one individual civilian. Sure he has connections, fame, and credit from giving charity, but he has a permanent record with the federal government, which had to divide his compnay up into seperate departments.
Sony: "Ooooooh gooooovernnnnnmennnt! Bill's being monopolisticagain!"
Bill: "HISSSSSSSS! (Runs into mansion made out of xboxs) "I'll get you next time, Sony! Next tiiiiiiiiimmmmmee!!!"
actually, 50 billion is pretty close to Sony's revenue. I think sony is still higher than that by just a little. And besides, his worth fluctuates with the changing value of stocks, so nothing is solid on either side.

Microsoft isn't the biggest company in the world.
Which is? And what about the biggest company with business in electronics or computing?[QUOTE="ramey70"][QUOTE="killaj2786"]Yet it makes 100x more money than Sony does... does the words biggest company in the world mean anything to u....

Microsoft isn't the biggest company in the world.
Which is? And what about the biggest company with business in electronics or computing?Exxon Mobil is the largest and it's not even close. Exxon Mobil's market value is $425 Billion. Microsoft's market value is $274 Billion. Not even close. As far as biggest electronics that would be General Electric with $368 Billion.

You need a link for that? Microsoft made $12.5 Billion in 2006. Sony made about $1 Billion.
sony, traded under SNE, had 8 trillion in revenue in 2007, while microsoft, traded under MSFT, had an estimated 51 billion in revenue, give or take a billion or so. msft has yet to release a 2007 earnings report.flyingplatypus
i apologize, i didn't include that the 8 trillion is in JPY, which translates to about 68 billion in US dollars
[QUOTE="sts9kid"]There's no way Sony made 8 trillion dollars in revenue in one year.
panquecas
even in yens it would be impossible.
it would be 66 bilion USD
Yes sony does make that much revenue. (66 billion USD) They make a lot of stuff. The only reason MS makes more money (profit) is that they have a monopoly over the the OS business and don't really have to price their OS competitively because basically most people will eventually end up having to buy it. They make a huge precentage of profit off their OS (when you don't have to worry about your product selling like mad, why shouldn't you?) and that's why they make more money with less revenue.

8 trillion yen, rofl. No one does $8 trillion, not even citi. But even so its still like $70b.

Absolutely wrong.
People, please do 5 minutes of research before making these posts. Corporations are owned by their shareholders. Whoever owns the most stock has control of the company. Microsoft's market capitalization (which is the value of shares * price) is more than 5 times that of Sony's. In terms of the value of the company, Microsoft is *vastly* more valuable.
Microsoft absolutely *could* buy out control of Sony, provided they could get someone to sell them the shares. At current market value, they could buy out control of SNE for< $30B. However, they have no reason to do so. It would be a terrible investment and the shareholders would vote it down in a heartbeat. End of story.

Its market value is significantly lower than MS and its assets are slightly higher, get out of here.

Sony does not make more profit than Microsoft. Microsoft ****ing makes Windows OS's that penetrates the computer market at probably more than 95%. Sony just makes a lot of different things so it may in physical size be bigger but is not the 800lb gorrilla that is Microsoft.

You totally missed the point.
Whether or not Microsoft has a more profitable quarter than Sony is not going to change the amount of culpability they're used to working with. Sony, while not necessarily more valuable, is still too big to be organized by Microsoft.
Billy will need to find an extra $30 Billion just to buy Sony. Sony is much bigger company then M$.
gameruk2010
It has been said many times in this thread. Sony is NOT bigger than Microsoft. They are *substantially* smaller. Microsoft has far more than $30B in the bank. However, it would only be throwing good money after almost incalculably bad.
