For me it's even better than the super nes and the first playstation. Some of the most originals games out there. Turrican, cannon fodder, sensible soccer, syndicate, populous, etc.., no to mention the great tools the amiga had for music in mod format.

wow I never ever seen anyone mention the Amiga 500 in System Wars. I remember when my parents were looking at buying a Computer for home. We looked at Amiga's, Atari ST''s and a MS-DOS based PC(glad we choose PC). It had some amazing games like Zool, Chaos Engine, Monkey Island, Cannon Fodder

Gamespot is international site, but majority of users are from North America and that period was dominated there by SNES/Genesis, while they were flopping like crazy in Europe which was dominated by 16bit computers

The Amiga 500/500+ Does indeed deserve recognition! Had some amazing titles and dev's working on it! Good old Sensible software and bullfrog games, i remember bugging my parents into getting me one using the claim it would be helpful for school work despite knowing i would actually be spending most of my life playing cannon fodder and syndicate! Fools HAHAHA!

i agree totally, i always thought it was strange the Amiga 500 or 1200 were never even mentioned on SW. Probably my best years of gaming were on my 500+, Desert Strike FTW!

aaaahhhhh so many great memories gaming on the Amiga... SF2 was the reason why i had to change the disk drive lol

It was an awesome system and underrated in my opinion... used to game more on my Amiga than on my Mega Drive back then..

Amiga 500 will always have a special place in my heart :)

Yep, Rick Dangerous was, I dunno, Duke Nukem of platformers? Well, ironically Duke Nukem was once (or twice, to be precise) platformer as well.

Ahh, the Amiga 500. I got lots of love for that system. A word to the cows, the Playstation would have not be anywhere near as good as it was without that platform. Most of the UK developers that are now part of Sony's first party development houses came from developing for that platform.

My favorite Amiga dev: Psygnosis (Shadow of the Beast, Awesome, Menace, etc) Dave Jones made Menace when he was 17 went on to create GTA.

The SNES versions were ports and not as good as the Amiga version. Sort of like how it is now between the PC and consoles.

Most of this forum is North American while the Commodore systems such as the C64 and Amiga were better known in the UK and Europe. The Americans were more into their NES.

Unfortunately, although I'm British and although my brother had an Amiga 500, I'm too young to remember these systems or any of the other home computers such as the Amstrad CPC or ZX Spectrum myself.

Maybe I'm wrong, all I know is it as more of a UK thing. I think the MSX did reasonably well in the US. Part of the reason the Sega Master System did better in Europe than NA was because the home computers took away a large chunk of Nintendo's marketshare over here.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. I recall acting exactly like the PC guys act now against consolites to my friends that had an.....ew, NES. LOL.

To this day, I've never owned one. I was busy with the Commodore stuff. After the crash, I didn't get another console until the 16 bit era.

Two of my Amiga favourates have to be F-117A Stealth Fighter 2.0 (an amazing combat sim for its time) and Odyssey (platformer), aswell as the previously mentioned Desert Strike, Cannon Fodder, Formula One Grand Prix and obviously Flashback.

You know, I think more than a few Amiga games actually ended up going to the Genesis/Mega Drive. It was probably an easier move to make because the architectures were more similar (both featured a 68000, and their native resolutions weren't too far off). I recall a decent number of Psygnosis games made the jump, for better or for worse.

The Amiga A500 was the cheaper updated version of the A1000 from around 1984??? Can't really recall what year the A1000 came around, but the Amiga platform was so far ahead of the curve for the time, one of the computing greats, certain "workbench" features its equivilent of windows still today are as advanced as what you'd find in XP!!!, Amiga "Towers" running "video toaster" were used to create all the CGI in Babylon 5 it was a portal with which many of todays top programmers and software houses learn't their trade. As a games machine forits time it was unsurpassed all this in stock form with 512kb of ram and a Motorala 68000 cpu and some sweet custom hardware, a true legend. Oh and the demo scene still use Amiga's although the later 1200 models. check these amiga demo's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5kuYfTCGLg this is from around circa 1991 and is heavily inspired by the underground UK rave scene, all in 880k!!! you'd be lucky if thats a game save on modern hardware today

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns5u3Ac4deM&feature=PlayList&p=C90D570D4AF29920&index=6 ok this demo is from 2005 i think on the later AGA 1200 chipset and Motorala 68060 cpu, still an amazing achievement on such old hardware

For me it's even better than the super nes and the first playstation. Some of the most originals games out there. Turrican, cannon fodder, sensible soccer, syndicate, populous, etc.., no to mention the great tools the amiga had for music in mod format.

The Amiga 500 was really awesome and ahead of its time. Inexpensive, compact, multitasking, 4096 colors, Deluxe Paint, 4 stereo PCM channels, MOD trackers, Sim City, Populous, Shadow of the Beast, Xenon, Lemmings, Out of This World... all the best multiplats! The only problem was Commodore's very limited market. The Amiga didn't see much sunlight outside Europe.

Well, the Amiga had a fair go in the late 80's around America, but that was about when PC technology took a few big leaps forward and converged the computer market considerably. VGA and later SVGA cards provided graphic capabilities comparable to the Amiga, and the 386 and later 486 packed more horsepower. Then you had the advent of the Adlib music card and of course the famous Creative Labs Sound Blaster, providing pretty much the missing link in a PC gaming machine worth talking about.
