Ahh, the Amiga 500. I got lots of love for that system. A word to the cows, the Playstation would have not be anywhere near as good as it was without that platform. Most of the UK developers that are now part of Sony's first party development houses came from developing for that platform.

My favorite Amiga dev: Psygnosis (Shadow of the Beast, Awesome, Menace, etc) Dave Jones made Menace when he was 17 went on to create GTA.

Yep, Psygnosis was the top dog back then. I loved Shadow of the Beast. Also there was Agony, Walker and many more. One of the most memorable and recognizable games on Amiga was also Goblins.

Ah, the Gobliiins series. I played that on the PC, and it was one time where the PC port surpassed the Amiga (this was because the PC version could take advantage of Adlib music which provided more music options while VGA/MCGA mode is comparable to the baseline video mode on the Amiga--used in the game).

For me it's even better than the super nes and the first playstation. Some of the most originals games out there. Turrican, cannon fodder, sensible soccer, syndicate, populous, etc.., no to mention the great tools the amiga had for music in mod format.

I've NEVER heard of that system in my entire 24 years on this very Earth. o_o When did it come out?

you never heard of the Amiga 500? :?

And stole all those precious Lemmings in the process. I rather miss them, and in this day and age they'd probably make for a fun downloadable. Rather rotten Take-Two (owners of R* North, FKA. DMA Design) couldn't get the rights back from Sony Europe (sighs).

the biggest problem of them all is that now psygnosis only creates wipeout and lemmings, only 2 franchises which is ridiculous when you compare it to the the amiga and PS1 days

Amigia in general had great games, Lotus Turbo Challenge 2/3 were awesome. Back in the days when games were made by two dudes from Manchester in their garage with mullets :P Feel The Awesome!

And people say Microsoft turn acclaimed devs into crapola (for example Rare). Now when you compare it, their past accomplishments with the present, Rare are godlike geniuses compared to barely relevant Psygnosis (Sony Liverpool).

You are right! At the time I had a 286 machine with EGA graphics and PC speaker...lol, I went over a friends house who had a Amiga 2000 and the graphics and sound were much much better than my PC. For its time and this is like 1989 it had fully synthesized music and digital effects and the color depth was much better than my 16 wimpy colors on screen..lol! I myself always wanted the Amiga 1200 due to its AGA chipset but by then I had a 486DX with Sound Blaster 16 and a VLB Diamond Viper and the tables were turned...BIG TIME! Oh, those were the days

Damn I remember I had a 80086 with 8 mhz, an mcga card and a monochrome monitor, I went to my friend's house with an amiga 500 and after playing shadow of the beast and cannon fodder I was sold, the music, the color palete, everything was top notch. I remember that back in the days the pc was not the best for multiplatform, amiga 500 had the best graphics and sound by far.

Watch this video and say hi to some good old memories.

I concur. I still remember them to this day.

I still remember the intro to Menace (somewhat)

PSYGNOSIS PRESENTS A D.M.A. DESIGN GAME...........MENACE.

God, I loved them. I laugh when people who started gaming on the Playstation start crying about how MS buys everything. The Playstation wouldn't have half the talent they have now if they didn't raid the UK Amiga development scene. It's one of the reasons I got a Playstation.

Remember G Police and Colony wars? Psygnosis. Wipeout? Psygnosis.

They freakin ruled.

I do. But, played all three and the preque; Crystals of Aborea. Ishar3 was a nightmare on Amiga though :) In cities streets were on diffrent floppy than interiors of buildings, so every time you entered a building you had to swap a floppy :D

Wow listening to First Samurai's tune and "Bomb the Bass" from Bitmap Brother's Xenon 2 on Youtube put me in a nostalgic ecstasy...

The PC didn't start to take over computer gaming until the wide adoption of VGA and the Sound Blaster. Dune II was a pioneer, but when Doom, Wing Commander and C&C came out the battle was all over.

My Amiga had a second diskdrive and a harddrive which automatically made me the king among the Amiga users back then. And Moonstone is one of the greatest games ever made.
