When we choose one system, we basically choose it for it exclusive titles.... right? Multiplathforms are bonuses.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
This argument assumes that multiplatform games are on EVERY platform and are all equally great. This is not the case.
For whatever reason, I always end up liking exclusives the best and buying only a few multiplats (and I usually end up liking them less than exclusives, only great I've played this gen are Arkham Asylum, Red Dead Redemption, The Orange Box, and Mass Effect), so I choose for exclusives with this in mind. Not trying to be elitist or anything, but it seems like exclusives are always my favorites. Maybe just a coincidence, I suspect it's because of how the game can be perfected to its system's strengths and cover weaknesses multiplats occasionally show, but more likely it's just a coincidence. Always been that way, since before I gave a crap about all this stuff and just has an N64 and PS1. Crash Bandicoot, Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda, Banjo Kazooie... they always end up my favorites.
Still, as I said, this argument assumes an idealistic condition, and as such is not the case, no, most people do not fully buy just for exclusives.
Alan Wake, Gears of War 2, Forza 3, Halo 3: ODST, Shadow Complex, Trials HD, Banjo Kazoie Nuts and Bolts, Fable 2(ok I'll atleast admit I hate this game), Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise, Toy Soldiers, I'm seriously missing the "lack of true exclusives for over 2 years" part :| and yes I'm more than willing to admit the PS3 has had arguably superior exclusives.Lems will say library because they have had a lack of true exclusives for over 2 years

i choose my system by familiarity, quality, style, afford ability, reliability, features, media, and games
but ya'know not everyone thinks like this
Or, gamers would say games and not make an artificial distinction...Lems will say library because they have had a lack of true exclusives for over 2 years

People don't really choose a system because it has OMG more exclusives, or OMG 100 more games in total.
They choose whichever system has the most of the particular games they want, be they exclusive or multiplatform.

Yes. I chose ps3 so I could play ratchet and clank and other exclusives. I did not choose the ps3 because it has say BFBC2. Because the 360 also has that game and therefore it offers no advantage to the ps3 i.e That multiplatform game could not have contributed to my decision to purchase the ps3 and I therefore based my decision on what makes the ps3 distinctive._Cadbury_But the 360 has Mass Effect... which is a multiplat... What if you weren't sure about a 360 or PS3, but reaaaallllly wanted Mass Effect? Well you'd prolly choose the 360. Therefore it's possible to make choices based on multiplats.
Eh not really. Again it would go further than just overall library, and just overall exclusives. It narrows it down to what games you want to play most. What combination of games matter more. Overall. Value, etc. Not counting exclusives as smething important is silly since they are important. THEY ARE EXCLUSIVE to one platform, but counting them is the end all be all can be a poor way of deciding given the quality multiplatform titles on other platforms, etc.SW says that the whole library counts all of the time.

If it was between pc and 360 then it would not be a factor because in that case it would be multiplat.

But any normal consumer could go into a store, and say "I want a 360, and I also want CoD rehash, Bayonetta, Batman, and Mass Effect"
It doesn't matter if the PS3 or PC has those games. The consumer still chose the 360 for those games.

Pretty much. When comparing the 360 and PS3, if we go by the old philosophy of 'all things being equal' aka multiplats, then the only distinction between the two would be their exclusives. That's why I switched from the 360 to the PS3 last year. When we choose one system, we basically choose it for it exclusive titles.... right? Multiplathforms are bonuses.

For SW it's true, but to me, I mainly play exclusives on PS3 and it collects dust so much because I hardly play any multiplats on it, and while I like a lot of the exclusives I played, honestly a lot aren't even that great and don't have interest in all of them, but you could say that for any system. The Wii to me suffers from this as well.
PC is opposite: I play more multiplats than exclusives on it. I played Crysis, STALKER, etc. though.
360 is well balanced for me because it has exclusives and multiplats, and most multiplats are better on 360 anyways compared to PS3.

They could just decide they want an Xbox for no good reason just as they could decide to buy a PS3 for no good reason
You could walk into a store, and see CoD on the shelf, and say "Oh, my friend told me this was good, so I'll get it". Well you got to get a system to play it on right? They could play eeny meeny miney mo, and get the same results. A system that plays CoD just as they wanted.

Xbox 360 plays nearly all PC best games, has the best version of nearly all multipltforms, its own amazing exclusives that et sequels too (unlike Demon Soul that Sony does not care about), best online experience, best controlls and most advanced in Natal etc etc
So, it is definatly all of those reasons that make 360 the best thing, not just exclusives like Fable 3, Mass Effect 3, Gears 3, Rareware games,XBLA gemsetc

Stop putting conditions on it. you'd have to be a fool to buy a console just for the games that you could get on more than one console, and not bother to check the price or other functions of the console you go for. And to add to your story, the person would get the console that their friend has it on most likely (another factor in the decision)When we choose one system, we basically choose it for it exclusive titles.... right? It depends on the person. I didn't buy a PS3 for exclusives. I bought it because I believe that the two HD consoles are pretty similar and it was the more reliable system. For the most part, the 360 seems like just as good an experience as the PS3, but RROD made me weary of purchasing one. At the time that I got a HD system, I simply could not overlook RROD. Since it is said that the problem has been addressed, I could probably overlook it now.

Unless you're denying this happens? You think all the people that buy iPods only do so after checking out what all the other mp3 players have to offer? No. They buy them because they're iPods, and it's cool to own one.
People can just as easily buy an Xbox because they know what the Xbox is. That's called brand power.
I choose a console with the best games. I do not think well I can buy a gamer PC also so certain games do not matter.

Ipods cost a lot less than 360s and ps3s do. And Playstation is just as known, if not more well known than the xbox brand. Anyway, do you realise how pointless this conversation is? All I ever said was that if said person is after games that are multiplats then the decision to buy the console comes down to other factors (console cost, features, friends owning that console), not because of those multiplats (as theyre on multiple consoles). And now you're giving me more factors (brand power) to support my point that the decision is not based on multiplats.....Never.
Whatever platforms you're choosing between, there's gotta be at least a FEW games that are only on one or two of them yet aren't exclusive.
For example, if I was choosing between 360, Ps3 and Wii, 360/Ps3 multiplats would be a massive factor in my decision, along with the few but nonetheless glorious 360/PC games.
Of course, if it wasn't for Gears of War, Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark, Halo, and Alan Wake I probably would never have gotten a 360.
