Why are you comparing laptops to consoles in the first place?

Laptops are more confined and complicated. It literally is a wireless computer. Can you play your PS4 games without a tv or wires? Nah. Stop being so stupid, op. :)

Maybe second-hands, but those laptops will go down to 1000 and then just get's replaced by a newer version.

That's how it works.

The newer version with like AMD 11970 will have same eprformance as that one with 8970? Are you serious?

No, just saying that a 1300 laptop won't go down too 400-500 dollar.
It will maybe go down to 1000 and then gets a new version that cost 1300 again.

I don't think you understand... unless the TC is a fakeboy, he is more than likely a Hermit or Lemming, not a cow.

We really need to change the terminology in SW.... Cows doesnt work for Sony fanboys anymore.... Sony is giving more and asking less than their competitors. Xbox fanboys ought to be referred to as XBOTS instead of Lemmings.

Nintendo = Sheep (it still fits)

MS = XBOT (mindless automotons)

Sony = ??? I have no idea atm. Just know that cow doesnt make any sense anymore. Got any ideas, fellas?

PC = Hermits (still fits I think)

Probably never. They stopped putting dedicated GPUs in laptops awhile back. Laptops don't need massive amounts of power. Once you hit a certain level of performance so you can seamlessly browse the internet and do basic apps, budget laptops don't need any more power. Companies are putting more into gaining battery life than they are with power.

The market for a $500 laptop isn't gamers and power users. There is no reason to make them more powerful. Once you hit a point where basic computer usage no longer has any noticeable waiting (and we've nearly hit that) they don't need to keep upgrading the hardware specs. It's a waste of energy.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231136#scrollReviews For $899 that laptop already is capable of running games at PS4 settings. In a year, laptops around $500 will not have GPUs rivaling the PS4 but their CPUs will make the tablet cpus in the next gen consoles look like absolute jokes. So if you were playing a CPU heavy game you might be able to get PS4 performance on a $500 laptop in a year. Though I would bet on early 2015.

Refurbished = cheaper. So already that's misleading.

Next that GTX 670mx can play games a mid settings at 720p, barely. It's not more powerful than a PS4 or Xbox One. You're seriously underestimating how powerful those GPUs really are. They aren't high-end PC GPUs today, but they certainly aren't slouches.

No. They are for people on a budget. No point in putting a dedicated GPU into them. They suck up power, will raise the cost, and won't be used by 90% of the market.

2015/early 2016 would be my guess.  Those under 1000K laptops will propably get there faster than the more expensive and thin ones.

Probably around 2020+ or something like that. For $500 it will probably be an integrated solution(and a cheap one) and that will take a while.

Probably 8 years.  Only recently could you maybe buy a $700 laptop that runs games in 720p as well as a current gen console could.

Indeed. $500 laptop these days has the same performance as my rig from 2007... COD4 era... at the same frame rate and visuals anyway. So looking forward that makes it about 2018/2019

This the 670MX is around the power of a GTX650 or HD7750. While a PS4 could be around a 7870.

If you could buy a freaking $500 laptop that runs things better than a PS4, the PS4 wouldn't have even been made. Xbox One and PS4 are already treading in dangerous waters of PC pricing.

My guess is 2018 also. Laptops are expensive for their power, and you're buying the screen with it. It is more mobile, the games are a lot cheaper obviously, and you can do way more with it.  But I wouldn't buy a laptop for gaming. No good experiences with that.

You're not going to find an AMD A-Series APU or an Intel i5 with HD Graphics to beat a console at that price range.

I PC game on a Lenovo Y500 Laptop, 16ddr3 with an Nvidia 650M graphics card... I have no idea if thats good or not, but my games look and play amazing on in... I cant play later gen graphic pushin games on it at high res, but at the very minimum every game looks as good or far better than anything on consoles.  I know it's not the popular opinion based on the limitations of laptops, but I effin LOVE gaming on a laptop.

I don't know. This generation, the laptop I currently have cost me USD430,00 in mid 2011. It's an ASUS K53TA, and for what it's worth it's considerably better than consoles, even if it doesn't quite hold up to my desktop PC (you could probably get a better PC, assuming you're upgrading and have a monitor, PSU and casemod for around USD200,00).

That was five years into the generation, but it's also nearly 20% off your USD500,00 - so.. three years or so, I assume.

I'm not too knowledgeable about this, but I'm running a $500 laptop now and it can do current gen games but it really struggles with them. Skyrim looks a little rougher around the edges than console versions and still has shaky performance. So yeah, give it a few years on the PS4/Xbone.

$500 laptop will probably never have dedicated graphic cards, laptops that range tend to focus on business people or uni students who prefer traveling a lot. Therefore, the majority of the cost will be about battery, processor, and low weight material.Sure you can wait until intergrated graphics reach that level (lol), probably another 7-8 years.

As for gaming laptop they won't strike for lower price, they strike for better spec at AFFORDABLE price (which is roughly 800-1300).

I would rarely bet against technology. Basicly if AMD can make APUs like we see in the consoles, we will likely end up seeing the same in Laptops at one point, in alot of ways APUs makes alot more sense in Lappys then desktops.

But when is the question here. 2018 seems too far away, that is 5 years, think of wher elaptops were 5 years ago.

A careful bet would be around 2016, with price being the real question.

A 500$ lappy today would quipe the floor with most higher end lappys 4 years ago. So I would be inclined to put it in the 3-4 year mark depending on factors that are more in the area of processes and politics rather then ability.

Anyones guess is pure speculation here anyways, we might never see one, and we might see one way sooner then most hope and fear, if the landscape is for it *shrugs*
