Mine is fairly equivelent to a PS4 but it costs a lot more than $500. :P I think it would take 6-8 odd years for an el-cheapo laptop to hit that kind of power.

With Intel graphics, I bet around 2016. Each year Intel gets more gaming oriented. The Iris Pro 5200 is basicly made for gaming. Cant wait to see what more Intel has for gaming.
integrated gpu's are advancing quite hugely lately . Probably in 3 years we will see an integrated gpu close to a 7850/7870 performanceadamosmakiI'd say in two years at that level. 3 at least. It will probably be the memory that holds it back. Intel is heading into having cpu's that are higher priced because of the gpu inside. Each new cpu generation makes the gpu inside less of a added bonus.

[QUOTE="ramonnl"]So youre saying that a laptop with the same power as this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834198034 wont get down to 500 in 2016?lol, laptops.
500 dollar laptops are crap, maybe end 2018.True_Gamer_
That laptop is an A10 is highly under power vs the PS4,and i think way over priced to you could get a 680M or a 7970M one with that king of money.
[QUOTE="NFJSupreme"]i don't know about a laptop but by next year you will be able to build a desktop better than the PS4 for that price.rjdofuA $500 desktop better than PS4? The 900 series from Nvidia will trump the gimped ancient 7870 thats in PS4.
AMD VI based laptops i.e. 2014. Today's MSI GX60 laptop matches PS4.I bet on late 2015 early 2016. And when I say same setting I mean also 720p res too...

yes by next year you will be able to build a PC for $500 that beats the PS4. Right now if you are in the market for an upgrade it will cost you much less to just upgrade your PC to smoke the PS4 instead of actually getting one. You can buy a GPU that smokes the PS4 for less than $200 now. So yes by next year you can build a $500 PC that smokes the PS4 in terms of performance. This shouldn't be a surprise to no one. PC moves at a rapid pace.
I thought $500 dollar laptops already beat the specifications of both the Microsoft Xbox One and the Sony Playstation 4 by a fair margin? I'm a PC gamer and I always thought it did already?
Laptops are more confined and complicated. It literally is a wireless computer. Can you play your PS4 games without a tv or wires? Nah. Stop being so stupid, op. :)percechAll irrelavent. It's the fact that laptops are tiny and must use high priced micro components that makes this a silly topic.
How could a similarly priced laptop beat a console thats about to launch? Consoles are 3-4x the size of laptops and are sold for little or no profit at super high volume. The 8750m is the kind of gpu you'll find in a $500 laptop and medium settings at 720p is about the best it can do on most multiplats.I thought $500 dollar laptops already beat the specifications of both the Microsoft Xbox One and the Sony Playstation 4 by a fair margin? The portable gaming market will keep improving but don't expect sub 500$ gaming laptops anytime soon. (if at all)
counter question; by wich year will PS4 be wireless and capable of running productive software?
2019 ?
2075 ?
3001 ?
never ever ever ever never?

Does it have to be? ;)
The name itself suggests an entertainment device. (PlayStation, not WorkStation)
Probably never. They stopped putting dedicated GPUs in laptops awhile back.
Wasdie
Um, No. There's over 100 different models through that link alone that put that tripe to bed, including a couple models priced just above TC's price point quite capable of modern gaming. I take it you just make things up as you go?

Most gamers don't play their games on their laptops. They use a Highend Gaming PC. I play a few simple games on my Laptop, but it's only because my current desktop PC is toast. My primary gaming is done on game consoles anyways.
The newer version with like AMD 11970 will have same eprformance as that one with 8970? Are you serious?[QUOTE="True_Gamer_"][QUOTE="ramonnl"]
Maybe second-hands, but those laptops will go down to 1000 and then just get's replaced by a newer version.
That's how it works.
ramonnl
No, just saying that a 1300 laptop won't go down too 400-500 dollar.
It will maybe go down to 1000 and then gets a new version that cost 1300 again.
Exactly. This is why gamers build their own gaming PC's. It's a lot cheaper that way and a lot less then expensive laptops.

That wont get better performance then a PS4 in the long run and you are not talking about the rest of the parts.

None of which are going to outperform a Ps4 and all of which are over 500 dollars.
[QUOTE="lostrib"]
do $500 laptops generally have discrete GPUs?
Wasdie
No. They are for people on a budget. No point in putting a dedicated GPU into them. They suck up power, will raise the cost, and won't be used by 90% of the market.
PS4 doesn't have a discrete GPU either, and eventually even laptop APU's will surpass it. It'll probably still take a long ass time, low-end hardware is disgracefully wimpy.[QUOTE="GioVela2010"][QUOTE="NFJSupreme"]And going to waste on shitty monitors by 99% of Hermits And why should I care if strangers are even alive or not?

Not with next-gen consoles. Radeon HD 7950 BE (3.046 TFLOPS @ 850Mhz base clock)/Radeon HD 8950/Radeon HD R9-270 (900Mhz @ 28 CU, 3.2 TFLOPS)** already has similar FLOPS gap like GeForce 8800 GTX (518.43 GFLOPS) vs Xbox 360 (240 GFLOPS).
**Radeon HD 7950 BE or 8950 gets renamed into Radeon HD R9-270 as mid-high range SKU below the AMD Hawaii.
It's unfair to ask that from a laptop.
But you can build a shitty AMD computer at the same price as the PS4 now... I'd rather have the PS4, that's one crappy computer lol
I mean, AMD/ATI is already inferior to Intel/Nvidia, but a true equivalent PC to PS4 isn't even good compared to other AMD builds. It's unfair to ask that from a laptop.

ATI doesn't exist and AMD is GPU competitive to NVIDIA. NVIDIA has a $hitty ARM CPUs i.e. AMD Jaguar could beat it.
Leaked AMD Streamroller benchmarks has placed it between Intel Sandybridge and Ivybridge on IPC and NVIDIA has nothing.

It would need a laptop with AMD Kaveri with 8 CUs IGP + AMD GPU with 10 CUs.
Really? If anybody said anything other than 2014 they are trolling. There are Laptops that beat next gen right now. The X99 chipsets and DDR4 are gonna hit the streets 2014-2015. Console gaming will be a joke spec wise when this happens. And I have a PS4 and X1 preordered. GoldenElementXLThe bigger joke is playing on anything less than a High End Plasma

Cranler
8750M (6 CU) is not quite a crossfire partner GPU for the incoming AMD Kaveri APU's 8 CU IGP.
PS; My old 5730M plays all current multiplats @ 720p and medium/high details.
