This Topic?...Again?
It's always the newer posters, I guess. :P
I love the GeoW and Gow games! :)
Uh, it's been said. GOW was first, and being that it's a AAA franchise that arrived first, that's how it goes. Being that I'm old, old school, I see GOW as God of War.
I've seen GeoW and Gears at Xbox.com, Gametrailers, IGN, and here at Gamespot.com.
There is always going to be younger gamers and abbreviators that don't know, but when discussing it, it's been figured out in many forums, a long time before GeoW even came out.:P
I think some folks will vote :
Looking at this completely one sided poll, and the fact we've gone over this, God of War seems to win again. If you had an Xbox and PS2 last gen, and you played all the big AAA games, you didn't miss God of War. If you have a PS3 and 360 you didn't miss Gears of War or God of War. Those guys aren't necessarily cows, lemmings, or fanboy's, it's just logic and having a personal history with these great games.
It's not about who's doing what faction is spamming the polls / anything. Read the thread instead of the votes if you want.
In the beginning GOW stood more for Gears of War, but for a while now people have been using a different abriviation. For me its for Gears. AND what comes to mind actually is disapointment. I remember all the hype around the game before the 360 launched. It actually was the one game that I had to have the 360 for. Was not a launch title like promissed but one year later I bought it day one. Disapointed in it not long after the campaign started. Never liked the online play after trying it for about 1 round.

I was here last generation man, in the beginning Gears of War didn't exist. :P
God of War was talked about in 2004, and came out to AAA in early 2005. It was GOW since then, it earned it by being so good...later as next generation approached, GeoW was anounced for next generation's Xbox 360, but that wouldn't be the beginning, now would it.? :P
Still, I feel you on the disappointment. I too was disappointed in GeoW2, however, I still saw it as an AAA game, but the online not being beta tested hurt it, and the storyline didn't do much for me (go in a worm, saw up his multiple Hearts!, Random wife story!, lol.)
I'm sure GeoW3 or Gears 3 will step it up to make up for that mistep...and hey, it's got 4 player co-op. so that's going to be fun.:P
Its obvious that lemmings will say gears and cows will say god of war and multi-system owners will say god of war as its was the original game to use it..... And I'd say the poll matches my conclusions. But what was the point of this thread?Midnightshade29I was bored so I made it :P
I think...
Grunts of War.. 8)
Seriously, God of War and I didn't like that GEoW thing so changed it to....
Gears. :P
[QUOTE="Diviniuz"]I wouldn't use the word much more successful, they are both critically acclaimed franchises with millions shipped.[QUOTE="SilentlyMad"] Explain how it is not then?BattleTurtles
To call one great game franchise "way" better than another great franchise doesn't make much sense to me at all. What is your definition of successful if you are claiming that its"MUCH MORE" successful than another?
I think he means Gears sells a lot more. The total franchise numbers are roughly the same.
Gears of War, and I think that majority of "the real world" would think the same.Salt_The_FriesStop it with your realities!!
Gears more popular that GoW? LOL! I'm almost certain that after the release of Chains of Olympus and the recent GoW III, the GoW series as a whole has sold just as much, if not more than the Gears series. So no, it's not more popular.

Takes four games to reach two? I'd say Gears is more popular.
