Agreed. The hub world of Galaxy 2 (and Galaxy but not as bad) was a big dissapointment, and I hate shooting stars at enemies (I dont use it).

SAGE_OF_FIRE

I really don't think hub worlds are important. No hub world has ever been so good that the game would be lacking without it.

Mario 64 without the castle would have lost some of its charm or something...

Definitely! And Sunshine did it even better (I love all of the secrets), I just prefer the castle. What the heck was the point of the mario spaceship "hub world"? There is virtually nothing to do on it!

It was better than Galaxy's because it made it easier to play the actual levels, which is what you want to do in the first place because the levels are vastly more fun and interesting than anything you could be doing in a hub world.

Mario doesn't need to go anywhere new. Heck, the franchise needs to go BACK. It needs to go back to a sidescrolling platformer. Nintendo has made Mario Sports, multiple 3D Mario games, Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi RPG, Mario Tennis, Mario Baseball, Mario Soccer, Mario Kart, Mario Party...the list goes on. However, we've only gotten TWO sidescrolling Mario games in the past 19 years: New Super Mario Bros, and NSMB Wii. That's a crime! And the worst part is that both of those games have sold over 20 million copies, so you'd think Nintendo would get a clue! New Super Mario Bros Wii sold more than Galaxy 1 and 2 COMBINED.

No clue, but I don't want it to go back to a large hub world like Mario 64, or have a bunch of nonsensical coin collecting. Galaxy 2 absolutely nailed it in that regard.

A game where a fat plumber jumps on the heads of his enemies in order to save an increasingly questionable princess (seriously, that chick is doing this on purpose because she enjoys being rescued a little too much) from some green thing who doesn't matter and doesn't appear to be motivated by anything.

This thing writes itself.

Put him in a dream world. Pretty much allows you to do anything without it seeming madeup.

I used to say Super Mario Micro, but it looks like theyve already done that with the DS game. If not 2 options.

Go with a theme like in Sunshine and Luigis Mansion.

Or make a traditional 3D Mario game in the same vein as 64 and the bonus levels in Sunshine. With mind blowing graphis and crazy level design. Bring in a story like Sunshine/SMG1

A 3D Yoshi's Island remake could be good.

Super Mario Dimensions. Each level will offer different visual styles and slightly altered gameplay mechanics/physics. (there would be 8-bit world, 64 bit world, cell shaded world etc)

Pikminmaniac

I've been thinking this for a while.

Plenty of places. Back to 2D sprites would be really nice.

A puzzle/platforming game where the power-ups Mario acquires can be used at will, after you find them in game. This could break a lot of level linearity by offering the player several different ways to complete it.

Grovilis

That's a good idea.

That does sound pretty cool.
