For those that buy strategy guides, like I do, where do you buy them from? I usually get mine at Amazon or Tower coz they're usually 30% off the MSRP. Wii games however, I used to get them through Circuit City because they go down 40% after just a month (too bad they didn't do it muchfor PS3 or 360).

Spending only $13 - $14 seems ok, but I was wondering if there are any other cheaper places that sell these guides?

I usually just use gamefaqs if I want to use a walkthrough. Otherwise, I would use Amazon, I suppose. I did pre-order the demon's souls with strategy guide :P

I try not to use strategy guides because they often ruin the game. If I'm going to use a strategy guide I'm going to get it from gamefaqs.com. Last strategy guide I bought was for Final Fantasy Tactics.

I use Gamefaqs, and either print them out (the short ones, like item checklists or whatever) or view them on my iPod Touch or netbook while I'm playing.

Exactly. I don't think I have bought a strategy guide since the 90's.

When I need a guide, I use Gamepressure's.

Registration is free and you can even download them as PDF.

They are very good.

I hardly use em'. Now if I felt the need to use one, I might go with the guides on Gamefaqs or Amazon.

Holy crap! It's like a hybrid between GameFaqs and a Prima Guide. Thanks! They are very good indeed!

I don't touch strategy guides until after I complete a game to the best of my ability. I have no qualms with setting a game aside for a few months while I ponder my next move.

I don't use strategy guides unless I am stuck on something in a game and I just do a search on the net for a ansewer on how to get past a certain point or find a object that I am haveing problems with. There are always somewhere that this information can be found for free.

I usually just visit gamefaqs.com. There's usually a plethora of help to find.

How about nowhere? I love how strategy guide makers continue to pretend that gamefaqs doesn't exist.

luckily, it means they'd better make a complete and pretty package if they want to sell their guides.

Why would you buy a strategy guide when you can get all of the info for free?

may as well paste the same message i wrote on a similar thread earlier today.

strategy guides are for noobs. seriously where is the fun in reading through a guide that will tell you everything that is coming up in the game and what to do. fair enough look something up if your stuck somewhere but playing a game through start to finish with guide seems like a waste of money, hell if your gonna do that why not load up youtube and just watch a video of someone completing the game for you it would save you the £40 the game would cost to buy.

It is call printing and who needs art when all that really matters is the guide itself.

some strategy guides are fun to own in their own right. and if i'm replaying a game, then using the strategy guide to get anything i missed the first time makes sense to me

though, with an itouch or a kindle, i suppose gamefaqs text walkthroughs would be better. I like being able to read strategy guides sometimes elsewhere than on the computer screen.

right, because ink is free

That's kind of a petty argument. Sure you have to pay for ink, but it's not horrendously overpriced and ink does other stuff besides print game guides. If I am stuck in a hard area and I just need some quick help Gamefaqs is the pace to go. Sure it does not have fancy art, but it gets the job done.

fair enough point but personally i find gaming to be expensive enough as it is as seeing as the average length most games seems to have dropped 5-6 hours my personal preference is to get as much out of a game as i can. as for buying a guide i just don't really see the point when there are multiple sites out there that offer them for free.
