Where does the PS3 rank in best consoles of all time

I was wondering, just because of that thread about PS2's 9th birthday and everyone saying what an amazing console it was

PS3 is solidly the best console of all time. That crown has always been held by a PS console ever since Sony entered the gaming industry.

That article was wrong, the PS2's 9th Birthday was in March this year.:)

Anyways, this is probably the wrong time and wrong forum to ask a question like that.

The PS3 has had a rough ride, but Early Last Year in early 2008 Sony started changing that around. This year that positive trend continued. I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket yet though. Just because the 360 had a rough, rough year, doesn't mean they are done. 2010 does look like another win year though for the PS3, but it looks great for them all. Nintendo's Wii will probably really surprise us next year, I hope. :P

In the end, I couldn't rank it, but I will say the PS3 is no amazing PS2. :P

to early to tell. PS3 just started droped the price to what ps2 was when it released. wait couple more years before i'll say where it rank, it could be the best of all the time or the worse.

IMO top 5.

My list of best consoles of all time would go:

1. PS2
2. SNES
3. PS1
4.N64
5. PS3

So top 5 for me.

id say top 10. but its no way near #1. or even top 5. i mean, there is no way its as good as ps1, ps2, genesis, snes, nes, n64, or the 360. but thats just my opinion. and it still has lots of life still in it.

Well, the DS is in the Handhelds, not Consoles category in the game industry.

Anyways, your opinion is fine, however, the Wii and PS3 are FAR greater than the Xbox at this stage in the game.

I'd put it in the Top 5, along with the SNES, PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, and an undetermined fourth.

I think the other Top 5 would be the Genesis.

Since I have never had this much fun on another console as much as I had fun on the PS3, I would be lying if I didnt say that it wasnt #1. I mean, it is technically the most advanced console that has ever come out, so I mean it really isnt a stretch for me to callit the greatest console of all time. Four of my top 5 games that I have ever played are on this console....

Killzone 2

GTA4

And when KH3 comes out, it will be all 5. And that isnt even mentioning all of the amazing games that come out next year for the PS3!!!!

I'd have to agree with that last statement. I enjoyed the PlayStation 1 more than any other console. Although, the PlayStation 3 is close. i'd say, #3, behind the SNES and above the PlayStation 2 and Genesis.

It's first-party support is why I put it as #3. And I counted each system during their own generation aswell. Although, I still think that the PS1 is better than all systems today.

Of course, PS1 also had Wild ARMs, Final Fantasy VII(a little overrated, but still phenominal), Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Grandia, and the two Parasite Eve games. Notice a pattern?

Not in the top 5, this gen isn't over and it hasn't gotten its library full yet, but it's definitely one of the better ones.

Yup! The whole reason why I love the PlayStation 1 sooooo much. I'm an RPG fanatic. Especially JRPGs.

IMO, it's too early to tell, really. A console is only as good as the game library. While the PS3 is no slouch in that department, it still has a long way to go. I'm pretty excited to see what the future holds for the system.

Ranking xbox before PS2 pretty much just pointed himself out as a lemming. PS2 dominated last gen it's not even up for debate.

This gen has been very stale in the JRPG genre. I NEED Final Fantasy XIII, VS XIII, and XIV NOW! At least we have Lost Odyssey and Mistwalker Studios.
