I've got a pretty nice laptop and want to be able to buy some good games for it but BOTH of my GameStop stores have like one little section in the middle of the store...and thats it.

Where does the PC gaming community go to buy their games?

I know I can find most games online but I'd prefer to have a hard copy.

This. Hell its my present.

If you need a hard copy (why? Disk-check? really?) Best-Buy, Target, Walmart all have good size PC game sections. Best Buy has more shelf space for PC games then any one console.

Amazon has good deals as well.

The Pirate b-I mean Steam:D. With around 20 million registered users(including myself) Steam really is the best way to get PC games.

It uses matchmaking, though, buy it at your own risk.

Steam, Direct2Drive, and GOG. I think Best Buy and Fry's Electronics has a good amount of hard-copy PC games also.

I know what you mean by preferring a hard copy - I used to feel the same way about games - but digital downloads really are frequently better on the PC. With discs, you usually have to keep the disc in the drive (which is a loud waste of space) and suffer through increasingly abusive DRM. Steam downloads, on the other hand, are diskless and (usually) lack SecuROM-style DRM, and are often cheaper than their physical counterparts.

However, if you must get hard copies, you can purchase them from Amazon, Newegg, and several other sites. If you want one from a brick-and-mortar store, you could try Best Buy. I've even purchased a couple games from Target, so that's another option.

I won't buy a game now unless it's on steam. It's easy, no disk, download multiple times, all in one place.

Most of my games are online. Steam, Direct2Drive, Gamersgate, but there are also plenty of publisher shops, like NCSoft Retail wise I buy from Game or EBgames in Australia. I've heard the NA retail PC segment is pretty bad.

While I do like Gamestop, NEVER buy PC games from there. Amazon and Newegg are your best friends for hardcopies, Steam for DDL.

I buy most of my stuff on Steam, but I'm thinking of getting physical copies again (until I can't get them anymore). If I buy them, they'll either come from Best Buy in store, or off of Amazon.com.

Best Buy has a big PC gaming section still. Otherwise, I buy pretty much all my PC games on Steam or Amazon.com.

I'm one of the old-fashioned types who like a physical disc and case for my games. For physical copies, Best Buy would be my top choice. Surprisingly enough, some Walmarts have the latest as well although the supply usually don't last long.
