Where Sony and Microsoft could learn something from Nintendo

First-party games. Nintendo's first-party games are one of the only reasons that the Wii is a contender in this generation. I know that the Wii has some good third-party games like De Blob and Boom Blox, but the first-party games like Mario, Zelda and Metroid are the main pulls for many Wii gamers.

Now, stop to consider for a moment: Why don't Sony and Microsoft have huge first-party game studios? Is it because they haven't thought of it? They decided against it? Or is it because Nintendo has the already established franchises, and that new first-party games wouldn't do well?

I think that Sony and Microsoft could make a great deal more money if they expanded more into making their own games. What do you, the gathered masses of system wars, think?

I'm envisioning long lists of 1st party games somehow related to Microsoft or Sony in any way, shape, or form.

It just seems like this would be a thread someone would post a list of games in.

But it hasn't happened, so maybe it won't. :)
